Roethlisberger has always had good receivers and running backs. It is the OL that has greatly improved.

Any QB that can go into Denver and be down 27 at the half, throw it 55 times, and come out with the win is a damn good QB.

There is no longer a question of whether Ben is in the top 5. He is.

He didn't used to be in the top 5.

    That is improvement.

That win was in Pittsburgh though. Still I agree that Ben is a top qb.

Maybe Heath retired because he didn't want to be next on Burfict's hit list , after Ben, AB, and Bell all got injured by Burfict.

That doesn't seem to be the case, Heath told Ben in November he was going to retire.

Ben is Ben. When he's good he's really good and when he's bad he is really bad. He does godly like things(denver, and 6 td back to back last year) then stinkers like jets 2015 and Ravens this year. This is why we need a defense to help him out on his off days. 2005 for example. Killer postseason then a clunker in the SB. 2010 he lost his clutch factor. This team is gonna have to rally

I see the Steelers signing a vet to take Heaths place or at least on blocking assignment plays. I don't think the other two tightends have it in them, despite how much coaching up they receive. I miss Heath already.

I really wish some people would stop coming up with all kinds of conspiracy theories regarding Heath's retirement. Not everything is done for nefarious reasons.

It has been revealed that Ben and Heath had conversations regarding Heath's retirement as of last November. Deebo, DeAngelo, and probably other players as well tried to talk him out of it. It's quite obvious he wasn't forced out.

Heath retired because he darn well felt like it was his time to do so. We don't know what was discussed between him and his wife, and it's none of our business. He retired quietly and without fanfare, as is his style, as he knows there is no "I" in TEAM. I really wish he would have given the fans a chance to honor him during his last season, but I respect his decision.

When I retire, I'm not telling anyone but my family. And then I'm packin' up my stuff and movin' to someplace warm like the Caribbean. :)

The thing here is Miller has been a class act his whole career, you never heard a word out of him. While that is a good thing it is also a bad thing, we as fans have no idea just how hurt he has been in his career. Maybe he is at a point where he is just to sore from all the hard hits over the middle or the wear and tear from being a stud blocker. Reading some of the comments from the other players it sounds like this has been talked about for some time. I just wish we had another year of him for many reasons, none more then just to be able to watch him again. I also wish he would have stayed so maybe he could groom James into a stud TE.....and the last reason was to try and send him out like Bettis, a SB champ. HEEEEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't see anyone coming up with conspiracy theories. The news that Ben and Heath talked about his retirement earlier in the year, came out maybe a few days after Heath announced his retirement so I think it was pretty normal for us, as fans, to wonder why he decided to retire.

I think she is referring mostly to the "he was forced out" talk, which makes no sense since several people have said they were trying to talk him out of retiring. Why talk him out of retiring just so the Steelers can force him out.

Heath says he is open to coaching but not right away. His immediate plans are to be Mr Mom and help his wife as they have four kids under the age of 6. As the parent of two kids under that age I have to say his wife can use all the help she can get, young kids can run you ragged.

He'll work harder at home than he did in football. :lolol: He's an awesome guy, would love for him to be our TE coach someday.

The trend is for guys to leave while they can still function. Look at how many people are retiring and still have a little left if they wanted. The CTE research is changing attitudes for sure.

I'm not sure if it's a trend. There's alot of guys hanging on longer than they should these days.

There has always been guys hanging on longer then they should but I have definitely noticed more retiring young as of late.

I think the CTE stuff has players more aware of their health for sure.

Definitely been some guys over the last few years who have got out really early. I just don't feel it's so many that we can say it's A trend. JMO

Agree with the CTE that players are more aware. Didn't Heath sit out a game or two with concussions? Those hits going across the middle do take there toll on players and I think that is his main reason for retirement the fact that he has 4 young kids he wants to enjoy.

I don't know if you can throw Heath in the same category with those other guys. He played for 11 years. I don't know that another season is going to make all that much difference? Maybe I'm wrong though.
