Wow pretty interesting, I didn't know that about the playbook. I watched Allen a little not much but was impressed and I see he is starting to slide down. I am fine with Pouncey he has a big cap hit the next 3 years but I would like a good back up to him as insurance. With all the cap talk and oline salary talk it got my wheels rolling to see what others thought about maybe trying to move MP. I am sure the two brothers would love to play together and was looking at Miami as a possible trade partner, again just letting the wheel roll. Our oline has really come a long way over the last two years I don't want to see it broke up. Still something to chat about though..............

Anyone thinking about trading Pouncey, just understand that his cap hit is about $10.5 million in 2016. If we trade him, that becomes $11.6 million in dead money. He's more expensive to trade than keep in 2016. I'm thinking that's not the direction we want to go...

I would bet Beachum will only get a one year prove it type of deal due to his injury. Just bad business to hand out big money before you know if he's back to 100%. Foster won't require a huge deal. Foster's base salary for 2015 was 1.8 and it probably won't take much more than that if any to sign him for 2-3 more years.

Yep. It's a combination of the amortization of his signing bonus and last year's restructuring bonus for cap purposes. I would definitely avoid restructuring his contract yet again this offseason.

Wouldn't want to trade him now anyways. Coming off a second season ending injury in three years his value would be as low as possible for an All-Pro caliber player. His return would be underwhelming at this point.

All we can hope for is that he returns from his injury into the form he was the year prior. Then we gain back an All-Pro center, and would get much more in return if we were still hell bent on trading him.

Here is an interesting article, I think KB is gone gonna get a big deal and it sounds like the Steelers are gonna sit and wait and then be active.

There are so many teams needing Oline, it's highly unlikely Decker will be on the board at 25; I found an interesting analysis on our needs picking at 25:

    25. Pittsburgh Steelers
    2015 record:
    10-6 (.504)
    Top need: Cornerback
Other needs: Safety, offensive guard, outside linebacker, tight end
Top prospects at positional needs: CB: Jalen Ramsey (Florida State), Vernon Hargreaves (Florida),Mackensie Alexander (Clemson); Safety: Darian Thompson (Boise State), Jayron Kearse (Clemson),Deon Bush (Miami); Guard: Cody Whitehair (Kansas State), Germain Ifedi (Texas A&M), Joshua Garnett(Stanford); OLB: Myles Jack (UCLA), Jaylon Smith (Notre Dame), Leonard Floyd (Georgia); TE: Hunter Henry (Arkansas), Nick Vannett (Ohio State), Austin Hooper (Stanford).
Analysis: The Steelers can't stop the pass. There hasn't been a bunch of turnover for the Steelers at the cornerback spot, but this might be the year we see some new blood added and not just for depth purposes, but as potential long-term starters. To go along with some new cornerbacks, the Steelers might be on the lookout for Will Allen's eventual replacement if they find a safety talented enough. The absence of Ben Roethlisberger for four games in 2015 highlighted the need for the Steelers to find a capable, young backup to groom and it might be time to find a left guard to challenge Ramon Foster for the starting role.....

Maybe they sign a Brice McCain type of DB but I doubt they sign a 5 million dollar a year type free agent. They just don't value that position. More likely, they wait a few weeks into FA and sign someone cheaper. They still have high hopes for Golson and I tend to think their first pick may be a front seven player.

The 2nd article really answers a lot. I know I have talked about the Steelers trading Pouncey cause of his big cap hit. I don't want to trade MP I was just throwing it out there so see what some peoples thoughts were on that. Also no way would I want to trade Pouncey and have Wallace here, he was fine as a fill in but that is all. I think this 2nd article reminds us just how good pouncey is.

While I agree that you don't settle for ok, there have been a few just ok offensive teams that have gone to the SB and even won it with their D. So it is possible but not what you'd want.

Yes, but we don't currently have that kind of defense. So, I don't see how weakening another area is beneficial to meeting the goal of winning the SB.

(not that I am saying you are suggesting that).

That is true we don't currently have that kind of defense. Hopefully we find those missing pieces this offseason and have a dominant D again next season! And yes I agree that Wallace is an ok stand-in at C. I wish we could find a DD caliber LG to replace Foster.

Why do we always have problems in holding on to depth players? How does Seattle manage the cap better then us?

    1. The best 5 year drafting run in the league, and 2. Until this season they had a great QB on a 3rd round rookie contract. I think we'll see them face a few more cap challenges going forward, but there's no doubt that they've done a great job drafting in recent years.

The first part of what you said is what I wanted to come out. I don't like the way we manage our cap OR how Colbert's drafting has been spotty at best over the last 4 years. And Colbert's assinine subborn ways of refusing to use a first round pick on a cornerback forcing us to get by with cornballs in the secondary.

I was super frustrated last year when he just watched Marcus Peterson get drafted 3 spots ahead of us instead of him being aggressive and moving up past the Chiefs. Then, later in the draft, the Ravens jump up ahead of us and steal Maxx Williams from us. Making Colbert again look like a complete idiot.
