Interesting signing. Supposedly he's a great character guy but perhaps a little shy in the talent area. We'll see but I wish him well.

 

Yeah I remember a ton of people saying they wanted the Steelers to draft him in the mid rounds and all or whatever. We'll see what he's got I guess.

 

Definitely a character guy...and smart. Finished his undergrad degree in 2.5 years and won a Rhodes Scholarship. I hope he can play...

 

Even if he's an average player, being a student of the game could compensate to a degree making him just a good safety. I think the reason Troy is great instead of just good is because he's both a student of the game and has the athleticism on top of that.

 

Thought we should have drafted him, but not complaining about who we got instead (Dwyer and antonio brown).

Might make safety a little less of a priority in the draft. Any priorities we can take care of before the draft makes the draft a little easier, and a little better (can take bpa instead of need in later rounds).

 

I remember this guy. I wondered what happened him. Seems like this guy has a good head on his shoulders.

 

smart and can hit but slow. we don't need to get slower on defense.

 

I was one of those who claimed for us to draft this guy.

Agree: all depth needs that can be adressed before the draft will help.
So far, we have a #3 QB with Troy Smith and another Safety behind Polamalu, Clark & Mundy.

I wonder if ILB or LT/LG is the next not-in-house FA we sign...

 

we signed two qb's, a few wr's, a couple of lb'ers, several DT/DE guys and a couple of cb's .

 

Maybe they are planning to draft heavily for O-Line...?

I think Lake wanted this guy. Can't have too many smart guys in the defensive backfield.

 

i sure wish he had more speed with those brains. a slow safety is not a good thing usually.

 

instincts can make up for speed sometimes. I don't think Clark is that fast.

 

I want to root for him, I was hoping we would have drafted him because at the time we were severely thin at Safety (I wanted Ahmad Black more though), but he didn't do much at Tennessee....doesn't bode well. He didn't really athletically impress during the draft combine process either....

I don't think he makes the team. Will Allen when healthy is better...

and he's often late coming into the picture on the deep balls. why get more of the same? this guy ran about a 4.6. there are lb'ers in this draft that run faster then that at 250lbs. he also hasen't played any meaningful football in 3 years. i say longshot,but we will see, i guess.

 

I was one of the people who wanted the team to draft him. He will be better then will Allen, young and smart, a Rhodes scholar and not to mention a great character guy. He will make the team and will do good. Coach Lake should be able to make him a player. I like the signing. Also, Troy should be able to help him. He is smart and should pick up the defense with no problems.

 

I just hope he can contribute in some way? Safety? Special Teams?

 

I heard the young man on a radio interview while he was in college. He's a lot like Baron Batch in that he's such a class individual that you can't help rooting for him to succeed.

Just curious if anyone thinks he can make it? Super smart guy, not too sure about football skills though?
