It depends on who else is available, but I have a feeling we're thinking TE somewhere in the first three rounds. If they think this kid can be another Heath, then by all means grab him. Can't have too many good players. James has looked good so far, but to bank on him being the next Heath with little to nothing of worth behind him would be a mistake.

If we go TE early tho, we better be thinking defense (secondary in particular) in rounds 2 and 3.

Edit: just read the player profile. He can block, runs fluid routes and had no drops on 51 catches. Sounds like he would be an excellent pick.

He better be able to block... Heath does everything exceptionally well. You really don't find blocking TE's anymore.

Haven't begun draft research yet, so haven't seen any film of this kid yet. Write up sounds good, would like to know more about his knees though, red flag.

Don't think they look at James as a #1, think they are looking at him as Spaeths replacement. So I do think they will be taking a TE fairly high this draft.

If this kid is everything he's cracked up to be, probably won't make it to 25.

Unless he is the next Heath and by that I mean character and all the intangibles and skills I might consider taking him. If he isn't Heath or Gronk I say no way do we go TE in the first round. I'm focusing all my drafts from this year on to pick players who can help right now. Ben's window is closing,it's now or never. With all the depth and skill we have at the WR position we are using our TEs less and less. Like I said unless he's Gronk ,which we know he isn't....forget it. Too many holes on D that need to be filled and replenished.

Depends who is available. Reaching is a bad draft strategy, IMO.

Didn't say anything about a reach and the pick can only be considered a reach if the player went a little early and didn't work out. What might be considered a reach on draft day may be a steal in some time.
Anyway I'm pretty sure there will be someone at another position besides TE that fills a more valuable need. I think so anyway.... We are far from set at a lot of defensive positions...DL,S,CB and believe it or not OLB.

Your DBs with first rd grades will likely be gone by 25. Im not saying they should or that they will take a TE but that may be the best grade available at that pick. If there is a very good TE available at 25 and a good DB projected for the later part of rd 2, you take the TE and hope to grab the DB in rd 2.

I haven't looked over this draft class yet, so don't have a guess which way they may go at this point. They aren't taking a OLB though, Id be shocked.

I have targeted the TE position as high as third round need, I do not believe Jesse James is
the answer. Steelers need productive help at this position, Spaeth stinks and this will be Heath's last year.

I hate to spend a first round pick on a te but I can tell you watching this kid a lot. he is the closest thing to heath that we have seen in 10 years. I remember mark may even comparing the two on a broadcast.

he can block and make some great catches. only weakness I have seen is that he sometimes doesn't use his height the way you would hope

You have a TE sitting at #25 that draws comparisons to Jason Witten and Heath Miller, he can block in-line and on the move, has hands and can work the underneath stuff or stretch the seams, and won't come off the field. And there's a question about taking him?

I think we're too hung up on the DB's.

    I a
I agree. I want the best player at OLB, SS, CB or TE. If TE happens to be it take him.

No. Do not draft a TE with a 1st or 2nd round pick. You want to win a super bowl in Ben's remaining years? Focus on pass rush/stopping the pass and protecting Ben.

The youth and weapons in terms of offensive playmakers is more than enough. Do not be suckered by the myth of BPA positions of less importance.

We have ZERO big time playmakers in the secondary or on the Edge... Look at the conference championship games....
    Ware, Miller, Talib, Harris, Ward
    Johnson, Allen, Coleman, Norman

We've got the offense to contend in place... we don't have the defense to win it all.

There's no way you take a TE over an Edge player or a DB....

Yup. Anyone who has been paying attention knows the Steelers wont reach for a position of need.

So, draftbreakdown.com has 2 game tapes of Henry - both vs. Miss State ('14 & '15). My initial impression is that he is the real deal. I think Heath and Witten are good comparisons. Probably Witten more than Heath.

Heath's replacement is Tyler Eifert... oh wait. Steelers drafted Jarvis instead.

    Score:

Bengals 15 TDs in 29 games.

Steelers 5 sacks in 36 games.

I think you have to pull the trigger then.

And you may be on to something. There was a lot of talk that Maxx Williams would be a 1st rounder last year, no question about it. Then he ends up going right before us in the 2nd. Henry is getting a lot of hype maybe because he's the only clear top TE prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if that hype dies down and he goes in the 2nd.

i'd love to see nick vannett in the 3rd. i think he and james would make a very good duo as TE's here.

I continue to believe that JJ's spinal stenosis is affecting him more than we know and it will bring his career to an early end.

What is this suckosis, can you tell me more about it? Does it affect all # 1 draft choices?
