If we do a post June 1 cut he will only cost us 1.350 mil, I read some where that you can cut them early but you don't get the savings till June 1. I am not certain on that but I pretty sure I read that.

Pretty good read here, some interesting points as well, as per Walterfootball.com:

    Trumaine Johnson, Rams
The 25 year old Johnson is one of the more intriguing prospects this year. He is clearly talented and has a knack for making plays on the football. He has good size at 6-2 and 205 lbs, so he can match up with bigger and more physical receivers. But Johnson is still an incomplete prospect that has as many questions as there are answers about his ability. Can he become Vontae Davis finding a career once he left Miami or will he become one of the countless others physical wonders who never really get the nuances of the position down?

The big knocks on Johnson will be consistency and injuries. He failed to stake a claim to being a starter in his first two seasons and his play is often up and down, at least until this year. The last two seasons he has missed more than a handful of games because of injuries and the injury prone label is something that can be hard to shake.

Normally I’d say that Johnson would wind up taking a short term “prove it” style of contract but with players like Davon House signing for just under $7 million last year with a desperate team, I tend to think he may find a desperate team that is willing to overpay him because of an extreme need. I’d certainly expect some team in the market to value him higher than the Rams, who have seen those ups and downs first hand, will. As long as he is willing to concede on some per game bonuses I think he can surprise in free agency primarily because of his age and upside that comes with it.

Predicted Value: 4 years, $22-24.5 million

Amukamara has played 16 games once in 5 seasons. If people are complaining about Pouncey and Shazier being injury prone, wait til they get a load of Prince. Also, I don't think he's anything special. Would he be a better starter than Blake? Yes. Would he be so good that we become "set" at that corner spot? I don't think so. I'd take him on a cheap contract, but still look for his eventual replacement in the draft.

Interesting. I think that Walter has undervalued Johnson pretty dramatically. I see a 5 year, $35 mil deal minimum. Probably 5/40 to 5/45. I'd love to be wrong and have us get him for a deal like what Walter projects, but I don't see it happening.

I am not a Prince fan, living here in NY I get to hear see a lot about the Jets/Giants and when he isn't hurt he is getting toasted. Now does that change with a new team/system who knows but to throw Allen type money at him....no thank you.

SE, I have given you wrong info it was over the cap not Walter, here is the link some pretty good info on snaps played and stats at the bottom:

    http://overthecap.com/2016-nfl-free-agency-cornerbacks-overview/

I do agree that he might be undervalued but with the class of Norman, Smith, Jenkins, Heyward and Amukamara, they may be the guys cashing in and the rest may have to take a one year deal or a lower package which is where I see the Steelers coming in and maybe Johnson falls there. I am looking more at Powers and Robinson.

Also the question will be what about Gay? He did sign a pretty cheap contract the last time and could be looking to cash in now. How much we spend on him or don't is gonna be key as to how much we spend on these others. If we don't sign Gay I feel we could be in the Smith/Jenkins market but if we do I think we will be in the Powers/Robinson market. I think Johnson is gonna be right in the middle, jmo.

i agree , i just was looking at cb free agent and there are 3 o 4 (sean smith t.johnson..) that will command big bucks (8-9 milion a year) than between the cheaper i thought amukamara could have some upside

Yup, if we can get Johnson for 4 years at $22-25mil, I'd sign him twice!

No. He could be a steal. Saints play a lot of man and he's a better zone corner. Seattle played a lot of zone, Steelers play a lot of zone. Worth a shot if the price is right. He'd be the best corner on our team.

I don't know much about these guys but just looking at this years class there are some pretty good guys that are gonna get a ton of money...Berry...Weddle....Gibson...IIoka....Nelson....Thurmond! We may be able to find a gem here and pretty cheap.....maybe:

    • [IMG] Rodney McLeod, S, Rams. Age: 26.

Rodney McLeod was solid but unspectacular in 2014, but made big improvements to his game last season. McLeod was excellent, showing no weaknesses.

    • [IMG] Isa Abdul-Quddus, S, Lions. Age: 27.

One of the reasons Detroit improved late in the year was Isa Abdul-Quddus replacing James Ihedigbo in the lineup. Abdul-Quddus was solid in coverage and thrived in run support.

Browner was in his first year of a 3 year contract with the saints, he was a cheap signing however at 15 mill, but he also led the league in penalties with 24, so whether it's zone or man coverage he cant keep his hands off of the receivers, I expect the saints to keep him for at least another year with his bargain basement price in hopes he can clean up his act....

I'll have to take a look at this guys. Two names that wouldn't have come to mind right away. Do you know which spot they play? FS or SS?

I'd pass on Browner. Seattle plays a much different type of zone than we do. Browner is basically useless if he can't press on every play, and even then at this point of his career he might just be completely useless. I don't know if he'd be an upgrade over what we currently have.

When combined with the fact that he refused to bench Antwon Blake this season it is my strong impression that Tomlin is downplaying the problems with our secondary, YES.

So... not gonna happen, especially after Silverback saying he is coming back... but a good cure for what ails our outside pass rush would be Tamba Hali.... I know he is older, and getting banged up, but when the dude is healthy he has a non-stop motor.

You can forget either one of these guys hitting the market, and even if they did they would be wanting a Patrick Peterson type 70 million dollar deal, we cant wreck our fragile cap space to sign an elite F/A CB and let the other needs go to hell, if they really want a top corner then they are going to have to fill that wish list in the 1st round, even if they have to trade up to get one....

I don't expect the Steelers to sign a elite CB, they can't afford it but a above average CB would be nice. You won't have to pay Peterson type money, maybe a Sean Smith type for 5 yrs 30 million.
