The guys in red have all tried and failed to be as successful under other coaches. Under Lake, they improved significantly. Add Keenan Lewis.

The guys in blue have either only had Lake, meaning we have no clue how much is on him vs. how much is simply them not being good enough, or they had other coaches after they left, but were just as unsuccessful there. Lake couldn't turn you or me into a serviceable player, right? There are limits to what any coach can do. The last three, Richardson, Hawthorne, and Brown, have been off the team for long enough to get picked up and coached up by someone else - a better DB coach? - but instead:

Terry Hawthorne's career is done. No one else picked him up after we cut him in record time. Currently unemployed.
Curtis Brown was signed by the Jets the February after we cut him, and waived that August. Currently unemployed.
Shaq Richardson was signed by the Chiefs the February after we cut him, then released that April. Signed by the Cardinals that July, then released that August. Added to the Titans' PS that November, a place where he has obvious, strong ties. We'll see what happens there, but so far 3 teams have cut this guy a couple months after meeting him, and without ever putting him on a game field.

Brown and Richardson were looked at and worked out by other DB coaches, and I'm sure played in OTAs and training camp. Then they were cut. Maybe Hawthorne's problem was medical. He had a bad knee issue, I think.

By the way, I wonder if Richardson's miraculous signing to the Titans' PS has anything to do with Dick LeBeau, the DC who drafted him? It's almost like the DC had as much or more say in that decision than the position coach... ;)

You're right, we have no real idea how good he is... but the evidence points in one direction, and it's not the direction you're saying. I know we stink, but that's not enough proof. I wouldn't put it on our QB coach how bad Vick and Landry looked, just like I don't put it on Munchak how bad Mike Adams is.

to be fair gay improved in arizona .. here before he was stinking , then they left him because they had better options. since he came back he is playing good .as for lake , even rooney sayd that the pass defense is our biggest problem .. so as a db coach should be accountable .......

It's becoming clear that this has less to do with Lake and more to do with An obsession to win the debate over Blast. Lol.

Not sure I follow you, Freak, but Gay improved here when Lake took over, then he left for Arizona and then came back here. Lake is definitely responsible for that, not Arizona. If thats what you were implying.

gay was better here than most let on. he played his rookie year even. he had some rough outings but he had some good ones too and did pretty well in ariz.. he played very well when he returned and it wasn't just because of lake making him better one year.

mccain was ok too before and after lake. lewis finally got a chance to play and they found out he was pretty good then we lost him. mitchell had a terrible first year and ike and troy and clark took a turn downward with lake here too. blake and cortez went south under lake.

it's not like we haven't had guys play well either, the trouble is we don't keep them. lewis, gay, mccain, boykin, heck i'd love to have those 4 still here as our CB's. we would have a decent defensive backfield with that group. right now we have very little.

maybe i don't remember well , sure you know better ... anyway i think our secondary deblace is a mix between poor players not enough good coaching and lebeau mentality to keep them 10 yards off the line of scrimmage

While I agree Gay was better then the beating he took from fans, his play clearly improved under Lake, IMO.

Lake was here when Cortez got his big contract if Im not mistaken, I don't think you can blame him for him regressing. Injuries and mental issues seem to have messed up Cortez.

Blake actually played better his 1st year when he was here with McCain, but he played a smaller role, I think the problem with Blake is he was forced into a starters role when Cortez failed again and McCain left in FA. He does ok as a back up but he's no starter.

Father time caught up with Troy, Ike and Clark, I don't believe it had anything to do with Lake.

Cortez Allen was drafted in 2011, Lake took over as the secondary coach the same year.
