He was better today than he was last week. There's been a few that aren't up to snuff but had the D to handle the W

If you take out the rest of Manning's career, Dilfer's not such an awful comparison - Denver's team is built around defense and one or two playmakers on offense.

I've been claiming all year that Denver are overrated and their record was misleading... so I'm scratching my head they got this far. But that defense is good.

    There have been a few.

Super Bowl XX, Tony Eason, New England Patriots: 0-6, 0 yards

Super Bowl XII, Craig Morton, Denver Broncos: 4-15, 39 yards, 4 INT

Super Bowl XXXV, Kerry Collins, New York Giants: 15-39, 112 yards, 4 INT

Manning hasn't been great in the playoffs but he has been serviceable and isn't turning the ball over. That plus their defense = Super Bowl.

Simms broke his foot and Hostetler became the starter when the Giants won that Super Bowl.

Simms actually had one of the best Super Bowl performances by a QB back in 1987.

    22-25 268 yards and 3 TD's

Honorable mention to the great John Elway. 12 of 22 for 123 yards with 0 TD and 1 interception.

For all the knock on Manning in the playoffs, I just ran the #s for QB efficiency and his QB rating is actually better than Brady by tenths of a decimal point - 88.06 to 87.98 - in the playoffs. It just goes to show how much it is a team game.

Manning's job will be to be a good game manager which he has been so far in the playoffs and put it on his defense to win the game. Kind of like how Elway won his 1st with a solid running game and defense. Or how Brady won his 1st by managing the game with a good defense ..... and maybe recording the Rams walk through earlier in the week.

I didn't see the whole game, but I thought Manning played fine. Certainly better than Brady, and better than all those QBs listed above. Shouldn't this topic wait until after the Super Bowl?
