I just have to laugh and wonder if anyone on here has any actual coaching experience. Other than calling plays from your couch? Pop Warner and your company's flag team don't count!

For once I agree with you. That was just plain stupid play calling.

Absolutely. I kept saying to myself..what the hell are they doing. Are they really going conservative now? Denver's 3rd down conversions were bad but they didn't need them because they were in field goal range in like 2 or 3 plays 4 times because of field position. There starting field position was just ridiculous today. If we reverse the field on them today maybe they wouldn't have made so many field goals.

McManus was 5/5. Hit the 51 yarder at the end of the 2nd.

Steelers had the wind in the 1st and 3rd.

    Boswell also didn't miss.

Kickers were 7/7 on the day.

We gave up some really stupid sacks and that penalty on AV was a killer too. Those stupid plays are complete drive killers.

To me running plays like that is the same as telegraphing. When you get in 3rd and long situations pinned deep you aren't really gonna fool anybody with what you do. Also I don't like those borderline read option plays that we seem to have in our playbook either. We missed one of them to AB last week and we SORTA looked like we ran one today to Heath that was a drop. Heath also had a costly early drop and so did Bryant. As a matter of fact, I think Bryant might have scored if he had caught that slant that hit him in the facemask. If AB had played this game I fully believe we would have won it.

The facemask on Gilbert really cost us. That was a drive killer too.

Those who can't play coach. Those who can't coach, sit 15 rows back and shout obscenities.

Fair enough. I'm not sure then if MT didn't feel confidence in Boz but I think it was more playing conservative and field position. I'm not too upset about that sequence either way, that's just me.

No doubt. If AB plays I think there is no question we win today.

I can see how it looks funny. There are some guys here that have coached football at various amateur levels. Now how successful they were is anybody's guess. We are on the internet so I'm sure all the coaches on the MB were wildly successful and have tons of titles.

How do we know that is Tomlin's fault? That could just as easily have been Haley's fault or Ben's fault.

Ben blew it on the 4th down play, he went for the big play to Wheaton incomplete pass Heath was wide open underneath and would've got the first down.

Are you aware of the fact that thank god the Bengals have idiots that play for them and that is how we got in the playoffs.

What situation are you talking about. What Quarter Where was the ball What was the score WTF explain what you are questioning. Was it in the 1st Q
4-1-DEN 32-----(8:02) B.Roethlisberger pass incomplete deep left to M.Wheaton (A.Talib ---Denver was up 3-0 then.

    Never mind----

I know what you are referring to now. It was that bizarre crap at the end of the 3rd Q. They picked up a 1st down at the Den 24 and got a 15 yd roughness penalty then Ben lost 7 on a sack but all this crap ended up with a 4th and 25 at the Den 39 leading 13-12.

Well from the 39 it would have been a 56 yarder but HowTF did they manage to get a 5yd delay penalty in that situation anyhow and why were they in punting mode already at the 34 which was as you said a 51 yarder. Lots of confusion there and I was not paying attention. But the end result was what it appeared the Pits were determined to achieve. Lose the game which of course they did.

    2-5-DEN 33 R11
    :)14) (No Huddle, Shotgun) B.Roethlisberger sacked at DEN 31 for -7 yards (A.Smith). 1-10-DEN 24
PENALTY on PIT-M.Gilbert, Face Mask (15 Yards), 15 yards, enforced at DEN 24 - No Play.
    END OF QUARTER
    Pittsburgh Steelers 13
    Denver Broncos 12
Fourth Quarter Play By Play 1/17/2016
    Pittsburgh Steelers continued.
    (15:00) (Shotgun) J.Todman right tackle to DEN 44 for -5 yards (D.Ware). 1-25-DEN 39
(14:23) (No Huddle, Shotgun) B.Roethlisberger pass incomplete short middle to M.Wheaton. 2-30-DEN 44
(14:18) (No Huddle, Shotgun) B.Roethlisberger pass short middle to M.Bryant pushed ob at DEN 34 for 10 yards (A.Talib). 3-30-DEN 44
(13:25) (Punt formation) PENALTY on PIT-J.Berry, Delay of Game, 5 yards, enforced at DEN 34 - No Play. 4-20-DEN 34
    (13:21) J.Berry punts 39 yards to end zone, Center-G.Warren, Touchback. 4-25-DEN 39
    Denver Broncos at 13:15

The above is copied out of the official gamebook and just like so many other things about nfl.com it is screwed up. [It copies stuff backwards-cripes what a piece of crap that site is] But basically that is what occurred there. I have no opinion on what should have been done there but the net result was a 14 yd punt from the 34yd line no actually the 39 Now if they miss the FG Den gets a 1st down at the 41 pretty good field position. But of course if its made 16-12 takes a TD to beat you.

Actually, yes I was mad about that series too.... But it didn't end up costing us any points. Decent punt and Denver stalled as I recall.

I am certainly not shy about pointing out Tomlin's warts as a coach, but for the life of me I can't see how anyone can pin this loss on him. In every game, every coach is going to be faced with at least a few decisions that are toss ups. The 4th down at the 34 was one such decision. He chose to go with field position, and the punter screwed it up royally. Bad execution by the punter. Field position had been killing us all day. If we try the field goal and miss, they get the ball at around the 42 yard line. If the punter executes, and our defense gets a 3 and out, we get the ball back in great field position. I think that was a valid line of thinking in the situation with a low probability 51 to 52 yard field goal attempt.
