I'm pretty sure most teams who play here arrive a day or two early, to acclimate to the altitude.

Any ideas why they would wait and show up so close to the game?

blitzgirl. I think one coach, can't remember who came in on the day of the game and played and got out. He said even up to a week didn't help. I'd be sucking on Oxygen till kickoff then all the time on the bench. I hate high air

Interesting. And, as an aside, know what helps adjust to altitude? Viagra or Cialis, as it oxygenates the blood. There are always stories of athletes who come to Colorado for different events and mention it. I recall one story about Ride the Rockies where someone was quoted about bringing it with him. My thought was ... maybe not such a great idea before riding a bike for eight hours each day.

A day doesn't help much with altitude. When I was in the Army we trained on the Big Island of Hawaii at around 6,200 feet and it took a while to get used to the elevation. Other than the big linemen these are young players in excellent shape so it shouldn't be that big of a deal, especially with how we now rotate our linemen and LBers.

Now if I hear Tomlin say that the "players are all really up for it", I just won't know what to think.

I can a test to how the altitude effects you physically. I was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs for 4 years and I swear my run time dropped by 2 minutes and I was In great shape. In that 4 years it seemed like I could never regain regained the times I lost and when it's cold and snows it brutal!!!! I feel their pain being a mile above sea level ouch!!!!

AV doesn't expect the altitude to be a problem.

I'll first say that I have no experience of doing strenuous activities at altitude. My theory for the NFL is, if altitude was such a major factor, the Broncos would practically be undefeated at home. Sure, it's an advantage for them.. Maybe not quite as big of an advantage as it's made out to be though, considering these are elite athletes. I don't see the Colorado Avalanche enjoying a noticeable advantage either.

I think the sideline oxygen carts are a big reason teams can come in closer to game day. Another big thing to monitor is hydration. The players need to drink a lot of water.
