Yeah, pwp was just relaying that to me, thanks. I know the system is important, I just am pointing out it has more to do with him, they couldn't win when surrounded by more talent before Ben got there.

Numerous draft picks are better for teams who have huge gaps and years to develop talent. Or teams who have no problem starting rookies. Oh, and in Madden.

With the Steelers, while there are some areas in need of depth, number of bodies isn't the problem. Case example: Thaddeus Gibson.

I think it's time to part ways with CB & LEFTY, I appreciate everything they gave STEELERS NATION! But i think it's time for DD to backup BB, then Smith if he is around. DD knows the playbook, younger & athletic, he will make a great backup. I guess alot of this depends on the new OC too. As good as BB is, i don't wanna see him doing the sandlot thing anymore. Let me see him play within a system again(game plan) it was obvious that Arians didn't gameplan when he was with the Steelers and that hurt BB. BB have to come to grips with this also.

    Interesting Topic...

I'm sure that the organization has an idea on what they would do without Ben. I think that they plan well in advance for everything. I also think they are looking at other options because it is very possible that Ben could go down with an bad injury at any point and it is possible that he may not play too much longer with all the hits he takes. Although, I don't see the Steelers trading him unless he demands a trade or he does something real stupid again.

It is obvious that some people are very Pro Ben and feel he is the reason for a lot of the Steelers success and some are against him and believe he was put on a great team and was not the main reason. T_E and Harristotle and i have gone round and round about Ben and its obvious they are big fansof him and i'm not. The reality is it is probably somewhere closer to the middle from the opposite sides of the spectrum.

Here are some interesting stats of QB's rookie years...

    Ben-196 of 295 2,621 yds 17 TD's 11 INT's
    Matt Ryan-265 of 434 3,440 yds 16 TD's 11 INT's
    Andy Dalton-300 of 516 3,398 yds 20TD's 13 INT's
    Joe Flacco- 257 of 428 2,971 yds 14 TD's 12 INT's
    Cam Newton-310 of 517 4,051 yds 21 TD's 17 INT's
    Sam Bradford-354 of 590 3,512 yds 18 TD's 15 INT's

Nearly every QB here was asked to do much more in their rookie season and had much better stats. Now Ben's effeciency was among the bests, but the system and team around him clearly helped that too. Ben had a very limited playbook in that season, which helped also. I clearly remember a lot of bootlegs, play action passes, screens, and easy throws that helped out Ben as a young QB. I think Ben was excelled in that roll. I think Ben was coached up and was a much more patient effiecient player back then. It seemed that the way the team was playing fit together. The offense, defense, and special teams had great chemestry. The defense was able to shut people down and only a needed small amount from the offense, therefore the offense wasn't trying to do too much and was able to not turn the ball over a lot and put the defense in tough spots. Then the run game was vital in setting the opposing defense up for passes and was able to melt the game away. So i think Ben brought a missing peice to the team, but it was not necessarily his play that put everything together, more the way he managed the game. Could some other young QB's have done that on that team? Probably. I won't take it away from him though. He did it and helped our success.

Adopting some of this strategy i believe will help out our team now. Thats not saying we need to go back to the same offense we ran in 2004 and 2005, but more play action passes, bootlegs, a mixture of screens would help. Combine this with a solid running game and Ben's abilty to extend the play (when is necessary) and with our weapons the sky is the limit. It seems like our offense and Ben has lost touch being patient and setting things up. He wants to scramble around every play and throw it down field. I love that he has the ability to do this, but i think it needs to be more of a fallback than the actual plan. I think he has been relying on it too much. You can't tell me we with the talent we have at the skill positions that we don't have ppl open right off the bat. Honestly i know that we do because i go to a lot of the games and see it. Now that Ben will have more of a coach and not a buddy at OC (At least i hope), i think we will see a change in this.
