O.K. let's just get right into it....It is clear that some of the Coaches believe that DD is better than Batch....This rumor has surfaced to many times to not be true....Bringing in Troy Smith also adds some meat to the thought that some staff like a scrambling QB....

To me the question is ,,,is those guys Fitchner or Kirby or both???Let's just speculate it is 1 of those,,let;s also assume the reports that we are staying in house for a OC is correct......If things are that way and they very well could be then Ben may already be on very shaky ground.....

BA has always made DD play the way he wanted him to,,,he never allowed DD to play his style of game,,,let's also keep in mind that DD was the front runner for the Heisman before he got hurt which in turn gave that award to Tebow....

So how many on the staff believe that DD is better than Tebow ???How many on the staff think he might be as good as Newton in the right system....As I stated before the Broncs game if you get that Zone Read pass going it is almost Impossible to stop and even a sub par QB like Tebow torched us....So what if we went that Direction with DD and Smith??We have plenty of Strong RB'S to force the SS in the box,we have plenty of speed at WR to beat 1 on 1 coverage,,,and we have already seen what DD and Smith can do if they get the edge......

The more I think about it the more I think Ben better be real careful.....I would not be surprised to see Ben get traded if he doesn't zip it up in a hurry...As Edogg stated in the other Thread we might could get 2 picks for him plus it would free up a ton of cash and we would run a Offense that fits our D and matches the wishes of our Owner...

So again Ben better be ready to become a PA QB because that is the closest thing to the Spread with a option QB ,,,I think the Team feels we can do it either way so the question is Ben?Is he willing or has BA took hs Ego to a point of no return?

It just depends on who believes in DD IMO?And Who gets the job?And if those 2 match and Ben fuels the fire then DD would be the guy without a doubt for at least a season....

Keep in mind DD was 1 play away from beating the Rats using the BA way on 2 days notice....He could have beat the Rats if used correctly IMO....

So to me it comes down to Ben is he willing as I stated....If not his age and health definately come into play as well as the Cap and other holes on the Team......4 top picks could go along way towards the future and then if DD couldn't manage the games and produce the QB spot could be filled with a solid Team around him....ie.. when we drafted Ben....

Just Imagine if we hit on all 4 early picks...A great Guard now the OL looks good for years if Gilbert pans out at LT...

A top notch NT to keep the 3-4 working correctly for years.....

A top notch CB to add with Allen and Brown ,,could be a solid unit for years...

A top LB who can stuff the run and play the pass making the D even stronger...

To me this fits the recipe the Owner wants .....Get the D even stronger and be able to run the ball better...We will be better anyway because BA is gone now add another top OL and we could simply Impose our will on both sides of the ball IMO...

pwp, I enjoy reading your posts, you know your stuff but this one is a pure work of fiction :lolol:

DD won't even be on the team next year. Ben's going no where and saying you are going to have a meeting with your boss is nothing to get worked up about. I think this is just people who don't like Ben looking for a reason to bash him.

Well you are completly wrong.....DD is as good as Alex Smith he is as good as Flacco,he is a lot better than Tebow.......All 3 of these Teams went furthur than us....Football is a Team sport and most times you are better suited to play Team guys ......

You have never seen DD in a Offense similar to Oregon .....If the Coach and Carolina was stupid people would still be screaming that Cam Newton is crap....Well Cam scored the ball a lot better than our beloved BB,,,,the reason is simple his Coach designed plays that he excelled at .....

DD needs the right system and it seems to me some on the staff feel the same way...As stated that person could be the new OC and you might have to Eat those Crap words...

Well I was the 1st to suggest that Holmes would be traded,I got clowned then as well....I was the 1st. to suggest that they would try and trade Ben last time if the price was right...

This is only fiction if Ben toes the line....It is all on him.....If he goes into the owners Office and tries to tell him the deal he is on the block and I guarentee that.....I guess being around the game I get a feel for such things,,but Ben is not in a position to make demands nor tell the Owner what to do....I like Ben and hope he will do the right thing ,but he did go to bat for BA last year and he better just let it go this time....

IMO this is why Coach T is staying away from this situation,I have a sense things are a lot bigger than they currently appear..

I hate Flacco and I know Dixon is wearing the Black and Gold, but if Dixon is better where are all the trade offers? Plenty of teams need QB's.

I listened to that interview and there's nothing there to support any of this. He wants to get on the same page as Rooney, wants to inject some of his thoughts on where the offense is, they will talk, come to an agreement and Ben will play ball. Ben sounded very respectful and at no time did he sound like he had an attitude, even saying it's Rooney's team and we'll do it his way. Having a meeting with your boss and hammering things out is a good thing, this will be productive.

ALso, kicking Holmes to the curb and kicking Ben to the curb are 2 entirely different things. We had pieces in place to take over for Holmes, there is no such player waiting in the wings for Ben. DD, Troy, Lefty, Batch, none of them are leading this team any where, I don't care what system is in place.

I hope it is a productive meeting or I hope my faith in DD is correct.....We will see when Ben hits the Cameras this weekend,,we will have a better feel for which way that meeting might be heading......Well if it goes bad it wont be like the Holmes deal....It will be the same as last time 2 high picks if things do go wrong.....I have it at 50/50 right now....

when did i say i thought Ben could over rule the owner? NEVER said any such thing! I just said said the owner should know his place and let the coach he hired you know COACH! a owner has no biz telling his coach how he wants the team coached! coaching is what you pay Tomlin to do so sit back let him do it! let him run what ever style of play that he thinks best for the team! id like to see any of the other Rooneys come to Noll or Cowher tell them how to run the team!

You are sooo funny! DD's better than all those guys, but isn't good enough to beat out Charlie Batch.

Must be Bruce Arians fault again.

I was thinking the same thing...IF he was as good as or better than those then he would be starting somewhere but he isnt. Flacco and Smith are WAY better than DD...Tebow MIGHT be the only one he's better than or at least EQUAL to.

Why is it that the minute someone questions Ben it is considered "bashing," but discussion about trading any other player is fair game?

    It's ridiculous.

DD can handle business, as can Troy Smith.

Funny how everyone seems to forget what a noob and a game manager Ben was when he first took the field, and he ended up in the playoffs, during his rookie season, because of a good system, and he got his first SB ring because of a good system. Meanwhile, he grew into a good QB.

It's also ironic that everyone seems to respect PWP's opinions until it comes to Ben potentially being expendable. All this indicates emotional reaction versus logical analysis.

PWP makes a good, and compelling, argument, here. And it's what I've been considering.

Ben is not the team. If Tebow can get to the divisional round with solid (but not spectacular) defense, and a few offensive weapons, then how can another Heisman hopeful (DD) and a QB that took his team to the BCS National Championship (Smith) not be able to perform with all the offensive weapons, and spectacular defense, of the Steelers? And DD and Troy Smith can actually play the QB position better than Tebow because they can actually throw the ball, read defenses, and hit the edge.

Stop drinking the kool-aid. The "experts" all said Cam looked like trash in the combine/training-camps, etc... Then look at what he did when he hit the league. These players' collegiate accomplishments are not honorary endowments. They earned it. And for a reason.

Holla if you hear me! :herewego:

Maybe a compelling argument if this wasn't a league with teams that start Rex Grossman over Donovan McNabb. Or teams that trade off Drew Brees *cough*Chargers*cough*. It makes me wonder if there really are talent scouts, out here. I imagine, much like any other profession, there are plenty of these professionals that are doing just enough to get by and going through the motions. Otherwise, the Chargers would have realized the talent they had, and the "experts" wouldn't have said Cam was garbage, before he hit the league and tore it up.

However, sometimes, you just have players who are sleepers. Even the pro talent scouts miss them.

What makes you think Dixon is as good as Smith and Flacco and that he is a lot better than Tebow? His college career? He sure as hell hasn't shown anything in the pros with this limited playing time that would support your opinion.

Ben may have been a "noob" in the 04 and 05 seasons but they beat Denver in the playoffs on his arm, granted it was a ground and pound focus, but it was his talent that gave Cowher his one and only Super Bowl. They beat the Seahawks because the Steelers skill position players made more plays than the Seahawks did. It was one of the most poorly played Super Bowls I've seen. Talent can make any "system" look good, Ben has it, Dixon hasn't shown enough to even be brought into the discussion. This is one of the reasons I'm sick of the "Tebow effect", his work ethic is admirable but it won't propel him to accomplish what Ben already has. I too wish Ben was more a student of the game and I think that is the "tweak" that Rooney II was referring to but to imply that Dixon could be successful enough in any "system" to wanna trade Ben now is rediculous. I remember the Kordell Stewart years and am not in a hurry to get back to those. That is the best Dixon can hope for to this point, comparison wise.
