If they produced in the redzone they could have easily been elite. This team really only needs to make some adjustments and they will be scoring alot more. One of those adjustments even comes from the other side of the ball. Take aways are huge for offensive production. So yes, I agree with Ben, they are very close to it.

I get what you're trying to say, but I'm pretty sure if I was responsible for executing something and my direct leadership just got axed, my boss wouldn't be angry about me meeting with him to try and clear up what the expectations and plans are.

Ya, I didn't hear the interview. It sure doesn't transcribe too well to paper, IMO. Breaking the Chain of Command is a big deal in my profession. MT & the new OC is Ben's boss, not the Owner. idk...

Agree, TTF. I really believe that Ben's two "lost years" as I call them where he was accused of rape in two consecutive off-seasons cost him in the way of any moral authority or influence he may have had with Art Rooney II. The relationship Ben had with BA was not healthy. It's okay to have an amicable relationship with someone in authority i.e. your direct supervisor, but to be all buddy-buddy, chummy-chummy is not healthy, it's just not.

Ben is disrespectful and selfish. He should be greatful he was drafted by the steelers and not someone like the Browns, Raiders, or Seahawks. He better be careful what he wishes for and learn what this organization is all about. Nothing surprises with him anymore.

First off I can't believe he talked to candidly about this? ...This quote gets me:

"I think some of that's on me; some of that's on linemen. It's on everybody, so I'll put it on me and try to make those adjustments."

Hasn't he said he has been trying to make those adjustments for 3 or 4 years now? These problems voiced by Art were never addressed. That is why BA is gone.

The Steelers are grateful they drafted Ben or they'd be sitting on year 21 without an additional SB victory. But I'm seriously jealous, how do so many of you get to hang out with Ben? I wish I knew him as well as you guys.

Good one! Plenty of other QB's would die to play for the steelers and benefit from a top Defense and great weapons.

Ben Roethlisberger Super Bowl Stats- 212 yds per game, 4 tds, 6 ints.

Yea, he is the reason we won 2 Sb's.

Also, i'm pretty sure Ben's comments and actions speak for themselves since he has been in the league. Really, challanging Rooney. If you don't have a problem with this you should go root for the Raiders.

Oh and there it is! The ole I'm a better fan then you so go root for another team bit  And lets see, who do you think was directly responsible for getting us to the SB against the Seahawks? Do you remember Bens play leading up to that or are you blocking that out because it blows your theory to smithereens??? Oh, and the little measly game winning drive that won the other SB, naa, that was nothing. I guess it was just a coincidence that the Steelers won jack **** between TB and Ben? Maybe if you stopped being such a hate monger you'd realize teams don't win SB's with mediocre QB's. The Trent Dilfers and Jim McMahons of the world are far and few between. You keep on hating though Mr Real Steeler Fan

Thanks for the link TTF I feel better having heard the tone in which he made his comments. They seemed pretty innocent to me. He sounds like he just wants to compare his thoughts and ideas with Mr.Rooney. The biggest thing is for all to be on the same page, because it seems like the team hasn't been.

Yep. Hearing it definitely makes it sound a lot better.

Look. Nobody likes change. Everyone gets in a comfort zone, and if you pull them out of it, they may resist at first. It's completely understandable. But it doesn't sound to me like Ben is throwing a tantrum, or even going into this transition with a negative attitude. He's just being honest. If he's a little apprehensive, that's ok. But he seems generally upbeat.

Reminds me of the movie Days of Thunder. I know it's a movie. I know it's not even a good movie. :) But there's a scene that was pretty good. Cole likes driving his way. It's what he knows. He's resistant to change. But his chief tells him "my way's better." He doesn't want to do it, but he tells him "give me an honest run, and I'll beat you." (paraphrasing) After he sees it works, and he's doing better, he has trust in the guy.

If Ben can push his ego (and maybe fear of change) aside, he'll be a better player for it. I think he knows that. But we're all human.

Yeah, Amazing what a difference it makes, actually hearing the words said, compared to reading them in an article.
Kinda like missing sarcasm, or intent, on a message board, if you don`t clarify with an emoticon... :)
    Thanks for the link.

I agree with you 100%!!!!! Who is the owner and who is the player? Who does this arrogant SOB think he is? I think he is about to piss Art II off. I hope ART II puts him in his place and lets him know that he needs to stop being so selfish and just get the team back to the Sper Bowl and win it. Thats his job and nothing else. Do what the coaches tell you to do. Its a new day now and get with the program because we are paying you 100 million dollars.

I have never seen a Steeler player talk like this in the public and I think BR is out of order. Thats why I think ART II needs to tighten him up. Its totally unexceptable. All he needed to say was that we had fun with BA but its time to move on now.

No hating on Ben, i'm just calling it what it is. Ben is good not great. The Steelers defense was great not good. The Steelers organization prides itself on hard working, blue collar, no nonsense, good people, etc... This organization is more than just winning football games.

Ben is disrespectful, arrogant, and classless and he has shown this time and time again. Regardless of the context, if Ben has learned anything over the last couple years he would know not to air his issues in the media. He just doesn't care.

tomlin_era-i'm not saying he is trent dilfer, i am simply saying he is not an elite QB at the moment and there were other parts of the team that were just as important if not more. The top QB's don't have this luxury.

O.K. after reading the post and and a few threads I must state my opinion.....

Arians thought he was better than he was he has allowed Ben to think the same way...BA was the main problem and now there is a very good chance that Ben could become a problem......I hope not ,but it can go either way...

As far as Art and his side I completly agree....He watched 2 Teams with a lot less skill than us at QB reach the Championship game,,,I am also sure he feels that Ben is better than Eli as well......So he is thinking Team 1st. as he should.....I will also add he saw Rookie QB''S produce at a much higher level than Ben and with a lot less talent.....All this falls back on BA and the way he did things and the stock he put in Ben without trying to Coach him...

Art has been seeing this for a few seasons now and he sinply had to push the envelope at this time.....He want's Ben to be his best and our running game to be it's best...He knows we have a good D ,he just knows we can do a whole lot more to help that out.....So message sent we can win with a game manager at QB if we must or we can dominate if Ben puts the Team 1st......Now the ball is in Bens court......

Art is no fool he sees the way Redman,Mendenhall,Dwyer, and Batch can run ,he also knows what our D can do if we are in the lead or our D is fresh.....So imo Ben best be real careful,,,he has a chance to let BA be the goat or he has a chance to join him.....IMO I don't think Art is to far away from making a move if Ben tries to force the issue.....

Ben sounds like a child. Of course he loved Arians. Arians let him do whatever he wants. Ben is going to get a reality check when he talks to Rooney. You are a leader of this team, but this is not YOUR team. I love Ben, but it is time for some tough love so we can all move on and get back to our common goal: Super Bowl trophies

I am not commenting on this interview. In fact, I haven't read it and probably won't. I am not commenting in BA's offense, his relationship with BA, or how he's handled anything relating to that. This is separate.

Ben has always been a selfish, arrogant PHONY. He has rubbed me the wrong way from day 1, and I have never liked him. Even before the alleged sexual assault stuff, which I'm not taking a stance on one way or another. Back then everyone loved him, and I felt completely alone in hating him. Everything he says and does reads phony to me. I've been saying this for years. He pretends to be humble, and deflect credit elsewhere, usually while simultaneously placing blame elsewhere at the same time. I have never liked him as a person, or bought his act.

That said, I know a franchise QB when I see one and I try not to let personal stuff affect the team (every team is half-filled with monsters of some kind). And when he's "on" there's no one I'd rather have. I also think he'll get over this, and work with whoever. I'm in the camp that believes our offense just needs a few tweaks and better situational playcalling, not an overhaul. But the reason he's not considered elite like we all think he should be when he's winning Super Bowls? Because he has these spells where he plays like crap for half a season at a time. Sometimes due to injury, but still. Sometimes I just can't explain his play.

Can't really tell from the article where Tomlin fits in all of this.

In my opinion Ben should have first discussed things with Mike.

Then he should have asked Mike's permission to talk with Rooney.

Then he should have asked Mike to accompany him to Rooney's office for the meeting.

If Ben is bypassing Tomlin and going directly to Rooney then that's bad for the whole organization, really bad.

Finally! I was going to post something similar myself. It concerns me that Ben doesn't see a need to involve Coach Tomlin, and makes me wonder about the dynamics of leadership on this team. Bypass the head coach? Go straight to the owner's office? C'mon man!

It's simple Ben, Mr.Rooney want you to take all that talent and weapons into the endzone .He want you to do film study and practice like you are playing the patriots every week.Run the ball and on passes get the ball out of your hand quickly. Is this too much to ask?! :swordsman:

To me, it's not a very healthy work environment if your boss has a "closed-door policy" and you are not able to walk into your boss's office to have a discussion about the direction of your company. I don't see how this is arrogant at all. He wants to go in and talk to Rooney to make sure they are on the same page. Ben is a little upset because BA was his boy so once he gets over that, he is going to go in and talk to Art and make sure he completely understands the decision that was made and how it impacts the future.

As the starting QB, I think this is completely within his rights and Rooney should be glad that Ben is wanting to come in and talk with him. If I was the most productive employee at my company (haha!) and my immediate supervisor was let go by the big boss, I would be in the big boss's office to make sure I understood the decision and how it would impact the future. And I think my boss would appreciate that proactive approach....as should Rooney.

I know some people will never forgive Ben for the incidents he was charged with and look for any reason to make the point that he is a spoiled brat who only has super bowls because he lucked out by being drafted by the Steelers. To those people, this story seems to give them ammo. Personally, I think this shows Ben is committed to winning for this organization and in no way should this be frowned upon.

maybe this is the rooney's way of making his qb evolve into the player he can be. BA called what ben is comfortable with. that just stagnates him as a player and the team around him. they may want him to actually watch film, practice the plays that he's not comfortable with and get better at what he does for they're 102 million dollar investment. BA was stiffling that. especially since we can't count on the defense like we once did to move the team forward. you count on your biggest investment to make it better. i think art has a plan.
