I understand that the reporters have a job to do, but it seems silly to me to ask a coach 4 days prior to playing an opponent SPECIFICS on what the team plans to do against said opponent.

Even if noone from the Bengals would ever hear Mike's comments, it just seems like a no brainer that any answer he'd give would be non-commital to what they actually plan to do.

    Guess it's just me.

Sometimes reporters open their mouths without thinking. The best(worst) example I can think of was when a reporter asked Doug Williams, before the SB, "How long have you been a black quarterback?"

I love the old "What halftime adjustments do you need to make?"

Why doesn't the coach just go into the other locker room and say, for the second half here is what we plan on doing.

I know coaches always give vanilla answers but do reporters really expect honest answers to this question?

BA really suckered the reporters about his game plan for last Sunday! He knew all along he'd be pulling starters halfway through and the players knew as well. A loss still doesn't sit well, but now they have an extra week to stew on it and watch what opponent they get!

    Brilliant coaching if it works!

Sometimes the best form of deception is the straight truth ... I remember a reporter asking the HC of our HS Football Team what we planned to do for the up coming State playoff game..... The other Team was 11-0 and we were 6-5 ...He said we are going to run 18 and 19 sweep as many times as we need to win....I am sure the Coaches from the other Team didn't believe it and thought we were going to run inside ...

When we got to the game they were pinching inside and blitzing like mad up the middle and low and behold here came 18 and 19 sweep...We ran that play 85 % of the time and beat them like 35 to 28 ...I have no doubt their Coaches read that quote and out coached themselves ...They were far from ready for 18 and 19 sweep....

Any coach who would put all their eggs in one basket after hearing a response like that isnt much of a coach to begin with.

As for the OP's point, I wish theyd do away with most of these bs interviews. The one right before halftime is particularly wasteful and stupid. I can't imagine any fan being glued to their seats for those canned responses.

He was a pretty good Coach ..They have like 5 or 6 State Championships . The moral was they were so cocky and they already knew 18 and 19 sweep was our bread and butter , no way can they run that against us type mentality so they focused on the inside and it was a mistake ....

I agree with that..Glad he was stupid and to cocky ..Point is even if you told the truth the Coaches probably wouldn't believe it ...

Tomlin takes those questions and turns them into cliche magic.
