what makes you think anyone else can control ben? he's done the same thing under BA as qb coach. whipple as qb coach. anderson as qb coach. and fichtner as qb coach. maybe it's not the coaches. ;)

If Fichtner was promoted to OC wouldnt that also open up the qb coach position for Batch to move into?

I didn't say actually calling plays. I said providing input to the game planning and play calling ie, giving advice on what may or may not work based on what's happening on the field. Seems to me it's just common sense any member of the coaching staff would do this the same as the players sometimes do when they come off the field.

I agree, but BA's biggest problem has always been adjusting to games and calling plays.

Can he reel ben in? I doubt it. Ben needs an OC that will make him study, improve
his mechanics, Make him make better decisions. I am of the thinking that Ben
may not be able to read defenses quick enough. This too can be taught with intense
film study and effort. If I was Art II at this meeting I would tell him that this is what we are looking
    for in our QB.

Well actually you're on my point. Is that because the input he received from his staff didn't help or was it because he just didn't listen to it. Bottom line is if they're REALLY going to make a change I don't see Fichtner being the answer.

a good example of not doing this is when fichtner had two injuered qb's at memphis and adjusted to keep his team winning. i'm pretty sure it wasen't his idea to empty the backfield with a hobbled qb to give no possibility of a run. yea , that sounds like how he ran his record setting offense. i could hear him now mummbling on the sidelines, friggin stupid azzz BA, what the heck are you thinking. i think fichtner deserves more credit then you are giving him. a position coach is not going to tell his boss time and time again he's wrong. he's there to help ben with mechanics, reads, situations against what defenses are showing, using the pump fake to move safeties and such. ben ran the no huddle pretty well. that was because of fitchner moreso then BA would be my guess, not what plays they wanted to call on an every down basis as a gameplan.

I don't think he gets much or any input at all from position coaches during the game, especially about play calls. I think the bulk of their work is during the week in preparation. Play calls I put pretty much 100% on the guy calling them.

Never having called an NFL game in his life, being tied to a coordintor that just about everyone here was ready to lynch and coaching a QB that was a turnover machine this year and is known for NOT being able to read defenses quick enough I'd say you're giving him more credit than he deserves

maybe he's just not a good student. i'm sure he never coached ben to drop the ball and throw picks. jeez, ben plays in the game not the qb coach. what were fichtners options?
