Before the ball was snapped was anybody else questioning the 1st and goal, 1 yard line empty back field 5 wide screen pass that got picked off for a 100 yards return? I was screaming at my TV as to why in the world are they about to run this play. Then it was picked off and there was no way anybody was going to catch the opposing player with the ball for a 100 yard INT return. Kudos to Jesse James for his effort as he showed great speed but for god sakes why would they even call that play? Thank god my family wasn't around to hear all of the cursing I was doing.

It's almost as if this team says we did this in Madden before and then runs a play. There has to be 50 or more better plays to call in that situation but it's like they play for Fantasy Football points instead of common sense plays that are much less risky.

'Cause Tomlin had a Carroll (senior) moment?

    yea, i hated it.

Just for consistency sake. We blame Tomlin for that call. But give Haley credit for the top tier offense we have this year. Am i doing it right?

There is never a good situation to run empty set inside the 10 yard line. It was my main beef with BA as OC, and now we're doing the same garbage.

Absolutely not. I blame Haley 100% for that play call.

big difference between empty sets inside the 10, and on the 1. Plenty of great teams run empty sets inside the 10 (pats, pack, etc)... running it from the 1... silly.

Wasn't this one of their looks for 2-point conversions? I think it was successful in the past. Still think it was a dumb call.

Yeah. As much as I don't like the call, it was also a bad decision - it was based on a quick release that Ben had to decide to throw before he's read the defense's response. I was expecting a fade to Bryant - put the ball where it's either out of bounds or in his hands - or fake the fade and look for a crossing route.

Going 5 wide on the 1 yard line is one thing, but throwing the ball immediately along the goal line when the CBs are still stood there and you haven't given them time to bite really makes no sense.

Actually it would have been a great time to put Deangelo in with a Full Back and pound it up the gut but that is sooooooooo 1970's. Now it's all about style points and ESPN sportcenter dances.

    yeah
because the 4th down play in 1st quarter worked sooo well
and we all know without Pouncey we have zero push
our fullback was hurt too so

Was I the only one having flashbacks to James Harrison's pick six in the SB?

It was even Haley again calling the pass play!

It actually did, if not for Foster tripping over Cody's foot. That play was blocked perfectly.
