I'm not concerned about Bryant - he will develop. He had a bad game, but so did everyone else.

However, he does need to be brought into a wider variety of plays (he's not yet got Brown's footwork, but I think he can be lethal on a quick screen or slant). At the Ravens, they kept sending him long, waiting for him to get open, then throwing it at him even when he didn't. Some of the drops were on him, but some were bad decisions that played to his weaknesses (not fighting for the ball, expecting PI calls against more savvy CBs) rather than his strengths.

If you have great hands, but don't focus and don't catch the ball... you essentially aren't a very good catcher of the football?

I see a lot of Mike Wallace in Bryant... he does well with those bombs over the top he can just run under, but he struggles with everything else.

Agree with most of what you say, but great hands? Not seeing it.

overall he's got some issues he needs to weed out -

when he's got his guy beat by a few steps and Ben can reach him he's going to catch the ball. BUT if he's got tight coverage and has to fight for the ball - I don't have faith. he needs to toughen up and get more physical. I'd rather see him make a 10 yard catch across the middle and turn that into a 40 yard run than trying to put it 50 yards in the air.

once the smoke settles he'll be fine.

I don't think Bryant sucks at all. He is freakishly athletic, and has had some huge games for us the last two season. He has made some really big plays too with all the deep balls and touchdowns he caught. The big play threat that Bryant provides is part of what makes our offense so good. He just needs to be more consistent. Hopefully that happens if we keep coaching him.

Interesting you use 'weed' and 'smoke' in the same post.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

I agree. I also think that Bryant's biggest problem is he tends to get inside his own head sometimes - and it shows in the drops. I know all receivers drop passes, but he went through a 2-3 game period where he had like 6-7 drops. It's obviously mental because he's shown the ability to catch otherwise.

As for his speed - awesome. But is it me or does he seem like when he first turns to run he acts like he's pulling a freight train behind him for the first .5 second?

Ben threw MB under the bus yesterday:"the play wasn’t necessarily to try and get it all, but because of a look they gave us, it gave us an opportunity[IMG] for it. We expect Martavis to make that play. I’m not telling you guys or the fans anything that we haven’t told him or that the coaches haven’t told him…if he wants to be great, he’s got to make that play."

they have all dropped balls. AB stepping out of bounds last year that kept us from the playoffs. (could have been the immaculate reception 2.0) more focus is needed by all of them, not just bryant. the kid has a lot of talent and so do the rest of them. we just need to channel it into consistent focus.

I don't think Ben threw him under the bus. Bryant should have made that play if he wants to be great. The ball was catchable.

Yes, he should have caught that ball, rather than flopping to the turf. Just not sure Ben should go on his radio spot and tell that to the audience...Keep it in the locker room...

He's not aggressive enough for a guy his size and speed. I wish he had Julio jones and Brandon Marshall mentality.

I don't disagree with that. I'm sure Ben wouldn't like it if someone commented publicly on his STUPID interceptions.

Again, there's a reason he was a 4th rounder. He's got A LOT to work on if he wants to walk in the steps of Swann, Stallworth, Hines and AB.

I definitely agree with most of OP's points.
There were a few INT's that wouldn't have happened this season if our receivers would've fought a little harder for the ball. Martavis isn't the only player guilty of this.
On the radio, they were talking about how the team were asked who's the most athletic guy in the locker room. Our guys chose Martavis, which kind of surprised me.
He has the athleticism & the hands, it just seems like he lacks focus & the passion/fire I see in a lot of other guys. Nothing showed me that more than the look on his face when Ben was trying to talk to him & had to grab ahold of him. It's a shame too, what a waste. If he doesn't have the passion, I don't know that he will get better.

Usually I'd agree but Ben said that everyone has told him about this. I wonder if he's just not listening so Ben decided to try to make him by calling him out where everyone could hear. Just a thought.

Agree and the Wheaton one in the EZ too. Hit his bicep it looked like. Back to Bryant, I don't remember the dropped passes last year like I have this year. Maybe they're coming in bigger moments, IDK.

I like Bryant he'll be fine.. so he had a few hiccups, so have other receivers then became solid
