Any free agents you guys want?

I think bens time is running out. I personally believe he won't win another. I used to believe but he has lost the "it" factor. Tomlin doesn't have the tenacity either. What free agents would you sign?

Will have to look at a list. I'd target some mercenary veteran DB's looking for a final chance to play on a value contract. Maybe a pass rush specialist in the same mold.

Ok, here's a list. Not too many jump off at me. Ideally we are buying low, as most of the guys on the list that are currently getting paid little, won't be for very long.

A few names:

JPP on a 1-year deal
Justin Tuck (not sure how old he is, could be seeking a bigger contract)
Terrance Newman (Vikings may have milked out anything he had left)
Most of our own guys (McClendon, Gay, Golden, ect)
Amini Silatolu (to replace Foster, could be pricey)
Eric Weddle (would have to be a steep price cut, like more than half)

 

Now that the team has made it abundantly clear that they don't want him, maybe he'll realize he's not worth the money he's getting. He's 30 years old and a pro bowl player. He's better than who we've got! Has to get rid of that horrible beard though!

 

Aroldis Chapman. He could just stand back there and chuck balls at the defenders heads, picking them off one at a time. Also would be another good role model signing.

 

Is resigning Boykin possible?

 

CB Truman Johnson from the Rams maybe. I liked him coming out.

Ben's window is closing and they won't significantly improve their CB play and OLB pass rush through the draft. Time to change the Steelers way and sign an impact player at either position.

 

Man my buddy is a Chargers fan and he despises Weddle because apparently he is a PI waiting to happen. I've told him before that I like Weddle too and he's like "yeah but you wouldn't like the stupid penalties he gets in every game".

 

Mario Williams is unhappy in Buffalo and I was saying yesterday I wish we could get him. I highly doubt we can make it happen but he's a guy I'd like to have.

 

So Ngata's contract is up in Detroit...would anyone want to see him here on a favorable deal for both sides? Like $3mil to serve as a backup on our DL? Consider that Cam Thomas was drawing $2 mil from us. Al Woods is done in Tennessee, too, so maybe he would come back? Not sure how he did after he left here, if he was injured or anything, but he was paid the same as Thomas and I would like to think his production was better.

 

I like both those ideas, GB.

 

I would take Ngata just to keep the rats from getting him back and letting him commence his decapitating of Ben.

Well on offense, unfortunately I think while a few could be upgraded the staff likes all the guys they have.

On Defense I would like some better back up linemen... Will they keep Geathers? Im still not sure what injury he had he went on IR for?
