Ben's prime years have been disappointing.

This statement seems a little off considering Bradshaw threw exactly 2 more TDs than interceptions in his career. I love Bradshaw and still consider him better than Ben, but Terry threw a lot of awful picks during his career.

Blake was out most of the game. They put Boykin in the slot and moved Gay outside and Gay got his Azz handed to him. Point is it doesn't matter who they put back there cause none of the CB's are worth a darn right now.

I watched Zach Mettenberger throw a 2nd down and goal pass away and then score on 3rd down and he is in his second year and bad.

Ben is Ben. He can't help but force passes into coverage regardless of down etc. How many times have we watched Ben sacked out of FG range?

Ben and Tomlin both suck at situational football.

Good post, closest guess I can give you is Brees. Not so much now, but they had some recent years where they have been loaded on offense but have not performed well.

    Agreed.

However, I'd have to give the nod to Tomlin as a big problem this season. He's simply a horrible tactician. Either that or he's not the one making the calls and has no control over his OC, DC or even Ben. In either case, it's a big problem that needs to be handled soon.

I get the Brees comparison, but I don't think the Steelers D is quite as bad. Brees went to NO in 06, won a playoff game that year, won the SB in 09, won a playoff game in 11 and in 13. Someone mentioned him earlier but another guy may be Fouts (or actually current SD QB Rivers may be a better one - not sure the current SD team is talent rich, but earlier in his career they were pretty stocked).

He has lost his magic in the clutch. His skills/athletiscm has diminished because of the beating
he has taken over the years. The window to win is really small. The Steelers must be all in over this off season to up grade the talent on this team to get us to a Superbowl caliber team. We have got to shore up the secondary, and have somebody be able to generate a pass rush. The tackling is really bad.

Here's a question, just for ****s and giggles.

If the season was replayed, and instead of having Vick and Jones start, we had Ben - are we in the play offs now?

Or would the record look similar, due to the inconsistency of the team in general?

Or is it the big game temperament (i.e. losing in the clutch situations) that is the problem here, rather than overall season record?

You know I have come to the conclusion over the years that Ben is very similar to Brett,
Ben is also a turnover machine as was Brett.

Tomlin's an idiot and Colbert refuses to add capable CBs.

We've done crap like that a lot this year. When Tomlin went to the locker room at halftime he said the reason we were running is because we were just "taking what they were giving us" but it's really hard for me to believe there was nothing open underneath. If Wheaton and Bryant were the outside targets on those two throws the you'd have to think that AB was covered by a slot corner and I can't believe that he wasn't open. I mean he is pretty much always open! The ravens should send us a big ribbon for helping them out in this game so much.

Ben is actually nowhere near the turnover machine that Brett was. Ben won't even sniff the all time int record even if he plays another 5 years.

I don't think the results will improve if we get a new head coach. Big Ben is the sheriff in this town and no new HC would be able to change a thing about it. This team goes as Ben does. If Ben plays off, we generally lose, especially with this defense.

The only team this recent generation of football that consistently performs with a HC/QB combo are the Pats*. Everyone else is just jockeying for position when they can. We'll see if Carroll/Wilson can take the torch from the Pats*. If Ben pulls his head completely out of his ass we may be able to make a good run during the twilight of his career.

Early in Ben's career: defenses sold out to stop the run. Steelers ran the ball effectively.

Middle of Ben's career: empty backfield on 1st and goal from the 1. Teams play nickel or dime regularly.

    Late in Ben's career: ?

Ben is going to throw picks when he throws 40+ times a game. For Tomlin to be ignorant of that fact is his own fault. There will always be a struggle for control of the offense Ben vs Coaches and Ben is winning.

Ben is a Russell Wilson big-play QB who shines in crucial moments (or used to). I don't know why the Steelers have not realised that Ben needs a running game and defense around him but they haven't.

Yeah, he looks to be developing a case of Sweed Syndrome: every drop makes him start to think about it more and more which leads to more and more drops. He needs a confidence booster type game against the Browns before the playoffs.

Ben is becoming Brett Favre Jr a turnover machine, vs the Ravens all 3 ints were Ben forcing the ball to AB. He got lucky the pick 6 got called back.

Agree that Big Ben is the sheriff in this town. But I also think because we will not get a new head coach, that the results will not improve.

Sadly I have to agree with Ben being the Sherriff, and he DOES NEED A RUNNING GAME
AND DEFENSE FOR HIM to win big. We will not win championships when you have
Ben R throwing more than 40 times a game. He will throw too many stupid passes and
become the turn over machine that he is.

The Steelers like playing slow as a way of protecting their defense. Ben has no trouble getting plays off quickly in the hurry up offense.

AB never played very well in the Denver game either. Just maybe he had 2 bad games back to back?
