Hey everyone, noob poster pretty much. Who's better, Wheaton or Bryant? . Personally i'm starting to lean towards wheaton. Dude has had some clutch catches recently and seems to have great hands. Bryant is great as well don't get me wrong, as he can stretch the field and put on the burners, but he's getting close to the top of the league in drops. Wheaton and Ben are getting on the same page and it looks to be another lethal combo. thoughts?

I was losing patience with Wheaton earlier this year because his route running looked poor.

He has better hands than Bryant, though, and blocks well.

Bryant needs to work on his "fight" and his hands, but is the more spectacular of the two. I think Wheaton has got more criticism around here than he was maybe due, but really it's difficult to separate them.

Bryant is an athletic freak of nature, but Wheaton is the better overall wide receiver. He's got better hands and runs better routes. He's also not exactly slow. If he was 4" taller we wouldn't have been able to draft him where we did. He would have been long gone by then. Along the same lines if Bryant ran better routes and had better hands he wouldn't have lasted until the 4th(?) round. Don't get me wrong I think Bryant has the potential to be a very special player. He just isn't there yet.

Does that mean that Bryant is a solid #2? Because I would love to have a solid #2. :lolol:

It's easy to forget that this is only Bryants second season and he didn't even start playing until about week 8 last year. He is the better receiver, he's just raw still. Has to clean up the dropped passes but he's a game changer.

Bryant is more talented. I think Wheaton is benefiting from the other 2 getting so much attention. But props to wheaton for stepping up/

I see what you did there!

For the better overall WR, I would pick Wheaton. As for who's more valuable I would pick Bryant. When he's out our offense doesn't look the same.

Bryant all day. Wheaton is more polished, but he simply can't physically do what Bryant can do, and like others have noted he is treated as the #3 option by the opposing defense. I love how Wheaton has come along, but we're talking about a comparison between a guy with Randy Moss potential and a guy with solid #2 WR potential.

Bryant is a freakish athlete. Not many WR are as tall/big as he is, and can run a 4.3- 40.
One upside on Wheaton I think he has better hands than Bryant.
Bryant drops quite a few catchable balls, and struggles in traffic for the harder catches.

Wheaton is filling the slot role nicely and is coming on strong this 2nd half of the season.

But all around Bryant is the better WR.

Different types of players at the same position. Bryant has the big play potential everytime he gets the ball whereas Wheaton moves the chains and can also get the long ball. I honestly don't know who the better blocker is as I'm usually not watching the WRs during run plays, but focusing more on the linemen. Wheaton is definitely peaking right now. Bottom line - this is a great problem to have.

Lately, Bryant can't even do what Bryant can do. Guy acts like he smeared vasoline on his hands. Wheaton acts like he broke out the stick'm. Who is better? Can't really tell you but damn glad we have them both!

AB, most exciting Steeler in years. Wheaton/MB tie. Bryant more explosive Wheaton better route runner and better hands.
Wheaton will cash in when his contract expires. Can't afford to keep everybody??????

I wonder how big of a contract Wheaton will be after. Between Him, Bryant, AB, Bell... that's gonna be costly when the times come

Dont forget we still have our 3rd round pick sammie coates who we need to fit into this offense eventually to find out his value, he's a 6-1 212 receiver who could be another threat in the future, we need to get him on the field eventually to see where he fits in....

i think Coates has the style of play we're after. He's big ,fast , and physical. I know his hands were the only question around draft time.

throws a monster stiff arm in the vid below.

As some have stated it depends on what you consider better as ? I think Wheaton is a good WR , his blocking is bad , he rounds off some routes and he reads the wrong spots in zone Defense. He does however have good hands ...I would give him a 7.0 on a scale from 1 to 10 ..

Bryant runs some poor routes at times he has killer size and killer speed, he gets off the line nicely. He does drop a few , but his big play ability is very valuable . He is a willing blocker. Overall I would give him a 7.5 ..

DHB has killer speed and runs decent routes, he is a very willing blocker .DHB is not good at finding the holes in zones. His big play ability is very valuable.. I would give him a 7.0 as well...

Wheaton next contract will be with another team, just like they let Sanders go when his contract was up. They have Sammie Coates to eventually take his place in 2017.

Nope , I sure can't . I think it was a fair grade for all 3 of them . I grade them like all of them are the same round pick and all their NFL history is the same . I just watch the tape on them in the Steeler uniform . I look at route running , I look at catching , I look at run blocking , I look at blocking after the catch .I look at the effect they have on scheme...

I think to many fans get caught up in draft position and expected performance .Here is another fact DHB out performed Wheaton while Bryant was out..

Wheaton game #1 3 rec on 7 targets 55 yards -DHB game #1 4 rec on 7 targets 58 yards
Wheaton game #2 2 rec on 4 targets 67 yards -DHB game #2 4 rec on 5 targets 77 yards and a TD
Wheaton game #3 2 rec on 3 targets 16 yards -DHB game #3 3 rec on 3 targets 19 yards
Wheaton game #4 1 rec on 1 target 18 yards -DHB game #4 4 rec on 5 targets 31 yards and a TD

As you can see DHB beat him in yards . DHB beat him in catch percentage. DHB beat him in TD'S . Now watch the tape and see the blocking, it is clear DHB is better . Watch the tape and see who the Safety shades ,also clearly DHB ... I can make a strong case that DHB is better , but they graded out even and that's what I posted ....

The Steelers clearly make mistakes in snap counts, they also clearly give their draft guys more chances . The bottom line is when the Team was forced to play DHB he played just as well or not better than Wheaton. No way to really argue that he didn't... Again a 7 grade for both of those 2 is completely fair...

Right now wheaton is the better overall receiver, but Bryant's upside is totally unlimited

I hope Bryant does well but doesn't kill it so we don't have to pay him a killing
I don't think we can afford 2 number 1 type wrs
