According to Jason la Canfora.....Fichtner or Kugler. I hope they give it to Kugler, if these are our options.

That sucks.I wish they go out of the organization.Ben needs a Coach,Not a friend who will let him dictate the offense.

IF they do stay in-house, the new OC better have his own ideas and not just continue to run Arians/Ben's playbook.

I think that if the team promotes someone from within that person will learn from BA's mistake of being too friendly with Ben.

I'm wary of the Fichtner/Arians connection too, fearing he'll be no different. But let's be honest, all of that is just based on a hunch. We don't really know that, we just suspect it.

And as others have said, it's not like we need an overhaul of the offense, we just need some tweaks here and there that BA seemed more unwilling than unable to provide. If they go in-house, then at least they will really know the guy they're getting, so there shouldn't be any surprises.

staying "in-house" is what teams/businesses do to maintain the continuity between a legacy and its successor. it's an effort to keep the status quo. to hire someone like fitchner would be a big pie in the face to all of the clowns throwing parties that arians was retired/removed/fired/etc. to think that one's understudy will come in and bring an entirely different philosophy is comical.

again, heed the caveat: change isn't necessarily a good thing.

My thoughts exactly. To think Fitchner wasn't already actively engaged with BA's game planning would be very naive. That's what assistant coaches do in addition to whatever their position coaching responsibilites are. To what level he was involved with the actual play calling I guess we might find out soon enough ;)

I don't know, this expectation runs contrary to what Ed Bouchette said just a few days ago: "Bouchette wonders if Arians’ removal was ultimately a decision made by the Rooney family and not Mike Tomlin. There is no logical replacement for Arians on the staff, so the team may have to hire outside the organization."

I'm inclined to agree. It's not like we're hoping to carry on a tradition of offensive excellence here and therefore want to stay in house. Rather, we need to clean house!

These are also the same news outlets that reported "All is well" after the loss in Denver and that everyone would be retained.

I actually have no problem with either.....As stated I have seen Fitch approach BB on numerous occassions only to be rescued by BA...

As far as Kug goes ,,then that means a Offense worked from the OL perspective.....This means a better running game and short passes and more PA passes to help that unit...

I am a Me guy ,,,,well I mean a Hue guy I think he has the right exp and Knowledge and the correct approach,,either way all 3 of these are better options than who was coaching lately, and I use that term loosely..

So I am kool with whoever the new hire may be because we are going to get a better guy IMO no matter what......I would prefer the best Guy so my money is on Hue or a College Coach.....Either way I stll have high hopes fo r this Team in the near future......I hope Vegas is a BA fan and tweaks the odds against us,if they do I will drop a nice wager on us......I always drop some ,,but with no BA I might crank that up quit a bit......With Hue I increase it by 20 times with a College Coach around 10,,,and going in house around 5 times.....Either way I have a lot more belief in our players ability as the new OC whoever that may be will make much needed adjustments...

This is a scary thought. I hope i am wrong, but i don't think the guys on staff are ready to be the new OC. I doubt anyone on the staff would be able to put Ben in his place and have his respect. We could end up being in the same spot we were in the last couple years, with Ben as the real OC.

I love our organization and i think that our front office is one of the best in business, but sometimes i just wish they would branch out just a bit from their normal ways, just a little. Hiring from within is such a predictable decision for the Steelers.

http://www.gotigersgo.com/sports/m-foot ... ndy00.html i like the part about losing his starting two qb's and making adjustments and still winning. that shows me already that he can and will make adjustments that work. he also knows how to use the run game and an o-line to it's fullest. i think he's going to suprise some people. this is not BA's baby anymore. i think he's smart enough to see what didn't work here since he was close to it and won't want to make the same mistakes that the guy in front of him did to lose his job over.

Yes, yes, this all may be true. But the fact is, he didn't do very well in our poll so it will be hard to recommend him to Art II. Sorry man.

Hell, if they're gonna stay in house they might as well have kept Arians.

In-house = no change = business as usual,

Not so sure of that Snack. If Rooneys did force Arians out then I don't think they would promote from within if they felt it would be more of the same. Lets remember that the offense doesn't need an overhaul, just some tweaks, they actually move the ball quite well between the 20's, it's putting it in the endzone that they struggled with. I wouldn't mind an in house move at all, I'm weary of someone coming from the outside and trying to put too much of their stamp on the offense.

You guys saying we need to go outside the coaching staff for an OC. Remember, we haven't had any winning seasons when we do that. Like we did that 5 or 7 years and did not make the playoffs either year

We don't know that. BA was in-house when Whiz left, and that sure didn't = no change.

There has to be SOME change. Even if they are bosom buddies, which we don't know for sure. If it's just different situational playcalling, I'll be happy. Can't get much worse than BA in that regard. And he does have a somewhat involved team president to please (we all know Tomlin won't fire him! ;-) ).

This is not just with the Steelers, I don't think. Anytime you are going outside the organization to hire someone that high up on the coaching ladder, you are talking about major adjustments. Along with that hire comes an entirely different system. Basic plays may stay the same, but the language may be different. Overall, it is a complete change of system according to the style of the coach. That means the rest of the offensive coaching staff has to learn the new system first. Then, they need to teach it to the players. Thus, everything gets set back.

Now, I do believe that if any system can succeed in such a case, it would be the Steelers. They have the offensive tools to do it. However, I do not think we would see the offensive production we would expect, especially right off the bat.

I have no opinion of in-house vs. outsider when it comes to the new coach. I do have a lot of faith in the Rooneys to make the correct decision along with Tomlin. However, if they do go outside the organization, I think we need to lower our expectations for what may happen next year. We'll be likely to see some growing pains as the offense adjusts to its new playbook.
