I also like Whipple. I was pumpping him up last year before they decided to bring Arians back. He left Miami when the head coach got fired last year. I can't remember where he is now but, he would be a great choice.

I think Todd Haley is the logical choice. The Rooney's and Todd's father, Dick Haley, go way back and have a very good relationship. Haley has turned down a couple of gigs already and the possible reason that he has is because he was clued in by Rooney that a change was coming in Pittsburgh. A lot of people don't like Haley because they say he's not a player's coach. Heck, we saw what we got with the "player's coach" BA. Ben ran the offense with little input from BA. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 times a game, Ben got what he wanted. If Ben wanted to throw the ball 40 yards downfield forcing it to Wallace instead of checking up to Heath WIDE OPEN at 12 yards, Ben did it. If Ben wanted to go empty backfield set and 4 wide on a 3rd and 1, Ben got to do it. If Ben wanted to play SANDLOT FOOTBALL, Ben got to play sandlot football. Ben may not realize it, but part of the reason that he is STILL not considered an elite QB in the same leage as Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning, etc. is partially because BA gave him WAY TOO MUCH FREE REIGN. And Tomlin allowed it to all go on as he watched (notice the word "watched") helplessly from the sidelines. Tomlin did not even want to be involved in what was going on offensively during a game. I'm through ranting. As far as I'm concerned, Ben needs somebody like Todd Haley to put him in his place and let him know that he runs the offense. If Bill O'Brien can get in the face of perhaps the greatest QB to ever play, Tom Brady, for throwing a STUPID red zone interception then Ben is not above being screamed at for his ineptitude and straying from the game plan at times. BRING ON TODD HALEY!

I agree that we need someone to reign in Ben. I just would hate to see a bunch of discord sewn between the players and coaches. However, if we were winning I think that would solve the problem as it usually does.

Consider this. Lots of posters want the next OC to 'rein in' Ben, but what if he don't want to be reined in? He's 30, he's experienced, in his prime, and has had his way for the last 5 seasons (with a good deal of success, I might add). What if he don't want to change his style? He can make the next OC's life miserable, and he know that if it becomes a choice between him and the new OC, the new OC gets to sell his house. Anything the new OC wants to do is going to have get Ben's sign-off.

Arians replacement isn't going to be radically change Ben. He might be able to change him on the margins, but at 30 Ben is 'full formed', what you see is what you get.

I don't think Ben has as much influence as some may think. I hesitate to bring this up, but the Rooneys wanted to trade Ben after his two years of stupidity which really weren't that long ago. Now Ben has hopefully changed. He's gotten married and has sought redemption and I hope his contrition is real, but I don't believe Art Rooney II has forgotten about those episodes which really cost the Steelers in terms of public image. I don't think Ben's image will ever be the same as it was. My point is that I believe Rooney wanted to send a message to Ben that he doesn't run the organization and he will soon send the message with the hiring of Todd Haley :praying: that he doesn't run the offense either.

And Art doesn't want to radically change him either, just some tweaks to his game and less punishment. The whole reel Ben in talk is getting silly. Next year we need to improve red zone efficiency and try and shore up the line. On the defensive side, get some damn take aways, that's huge for offensive production, totally unacceptable our performance in that area.

Yeah, he might need to be reined in a little, but it's not like we're going to become the Broncos' offense. We're talking about small tweaks and better playcalling, largely designed to keep him out of a wheelchair. Ben should be behind it.

Even if he's not, I don't buy the notion that he could just send a new OC packing. He is still a team player and with the OC, HC, and owners coming down on him, he would give whatever system a chance. If it fails miserably, the team would adapt on its own.

From everything i have read and heard when the steelers go no huddle its bens offense and when in the huddle its arians offense. My point is you hear ben constantly begging to run the no huddle and us barely use it. That said im sure ben does have an influence on the game plan which i disagree with. He should be able to make suggestions but other then that forget about unless you're in the no huddle it should be the qbs offense then.

Yeah. Don't get me wrong. What I mean by "reigning him in" is just that I would like to see someone convince him that it's ok to hit the open guy for short yardage and not go for the home run all the time. I really enjoy watching Ben get out of the pocket and make plays eventhough it does make me nervous. I just would like to see him take the opportunities that are right in front of him and even throw it away when it's not there. It seems that would be the best method to keep him from getting hurt all the time also.

Tomlin didn't fire him. He didn't keep him on the staff. Usually a new head coach wants to bring in his own people. He had his options.
