I hope this isn't true, we have a team entirely built to throw the ball. I don't mind a balanced attack, I even welcome it but I don't want to see run run pass run run pass run run pass. We don't have the line and we don't have the Bus anymore. I like Redman but he ain't the Bus. We need to utilize all our tools, not just go back to a run happy offense, especially since we aren't built for it anymore.

whose his source? we do have a good stable of RB's. not just named redman. clay 250 lbs. dwyer came from a run first offense and has had success here. redman has had success here with his hard running style. batch can run the ball and is in noway just a pass catcher. we can fix the O-line if we are allowed to. the run does set up the pass. playaction comes from running the ball successfully. ben has worked well in that style of offense. i wouldn't have a problem if we can do it and score points. that is the purpose of the game to outscore the opponant. it keeps the high scoring opponants on the sidelines. we have a defense setup to win these types of games. that was proven against NE this year.

How would I know  I like our RB's but not one of them has anything on Bettis, we try using our guys like that and their wheels will fall off.

That's smart. So now they'll have the 21st ranked offense in terms of yards to go with the 21st scoring offense.

    Nice.

Or they could have a solid game such as the Rams game or a heck of a game such as Pats game in which Ben got his stats, they ran the ball effectively and played tough defense. You can play a blue-collar style of ball with all this talent and still put up impressive numbers. I hate to keep talking about a team that isn't the Steelers but look at what Kubiak is doing with the Texans. Is there any doubt that had Matt Shaub and Mario Williams not gotten hurt that they are a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs?

But we have to be more effective running the ball. We do not run the ball well against good defenses. We have to throw the ball well to open up the run.

That is due to poor planning and poor scheme. I think if they scrap the zone blocking or at least use a real fullback the running game will be more effective versus good defenses. This will in turn give the O-line a sense of accomplishment and they can start to play with an edge. Then it will open up the passing game.

I agree 100%! We need a balanced attack that takes advantages of our strengths, not forces the team to adapt to be something it's not.

we really can do both. that's how we won 4 rings in the 70's. those teams could play it any way you wanted to. yes, without bettis. lol of course we need better linemen. we needed them anyway. yes we need a FB. we needed one anyway.

I for one am glad that Rooney had the intestianal fortitude to make a MUCH NEEDED CHANGE AT THE OC POSITION! It was obvious Tomlin wasn't going to do anything.

    HIRE TODD HALEY IMMEDIATELY!!!

People please. First of all, there is nothing wrong with wanting to run the football. All this throwing the ball all orver the yard because it is a passing league is some complete bull. Look at what the 49ers did with an average QB. Ben is not an average QB. There are many way to develop a running game like, throwing the ball to the running backs out of the back field and using screens to them. The quick/short passing game is like running the football, three step drops and pass, 1, 2, 3, pass. Those are all things that Arians and Ben did not do. They did it in one game this year against the Patriots and never used it again. All Arians did was use his famous 1 back and five wide formations. 3rd and 2 was a favorite five wide formation for him. He never lined up in the I formation and ran the ball. He also had the O-Line using that simple zone blocking scheme. The Steelers always had big linemen, maulers who could line up and block one on one, smash mouth, a power blocking scheme. Arians did away with that and all the legit full backs lead blockers. Thats why Fast Willie Parker got broke up by running into the line without a lead blocker. Believe me, it was time for Arians to go.

Yes I am glad that Art II did what he was suppose to do, get rid of Arians because Arians was never going to change and the Steelers offensively were never going to get better. Ben would never last under Arians. He would stay hurt every year.

Now, we can go forward into a new era without Arians and get back to Steelers football. It doesn't mean that they will run the ball all the time. I think they will have a balanced attack. They will never throw the ball 40 times and only run it 15 times. That should change more towards a balanced attack and better play calling, and better red zone scoring. It will be great with a quality OC.

As I have said in numerous posts over the years. BA did not call
the kind of game that the majority of the Steeler fan base liked.
Here is hoping that the new OC, whoever that maybe gets back to
Steeler football. A mixture of run and pass. Ask yourself these questions,
Did Ben improve his QB skills under BA? Did the offense improve under BA?
Does our fan base find us entertaining? These I beleive are some of the questions
ART II wants in a new OC.

It's pretty apparent Tomlin will be on a short leash this year boys. We now have a more involved owner who will be looking closely at how his team is performing. Could also affect our draft decisions this year. Wouldn't surprise me if Art has some input into who is on our board. Maybe more emphasis on the OL? Stay tuned!

Uhhhh, because what is usually a coaches decision (retaining an assistant coach) was made by the owner and was against the coach's wishes. That kind of rebuke is not generally seen as a vote of confidence in the real NFL world. That's why. But if you think Tomlin comes away from this stronger and with more credibility, you certainly are welcome to that opinion!

I don't think that's true. People can attribute Tomlins SB victory to Cowher all they want but I doubt Art is one of them. I'm sure he knows there's a lot more involved then just fielding talented players, see Dallas and San Diego as examples. Tomlin has been to 2 SB's in 5 years, that's very rare. I think Tomlin is safe until he starts rattling off some 8-8, 7-9, 6-10 seasons.

Plus I heard Dan is coming back to run the team so there will be another voice involved in decisions.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread but I would like to know when you guys think we will name a new OC? Do you think they are interviewing yet? I hope they do something soon and not wait till after the SB. Let's get this ball rollin'. I can't remember being anymore excited than I am now in anticipation of the new season. We need our new OC in here now to help with personnel decisions and draft input.Does anyone know the rules about having contact between the players and the coaches? I don't care if Ben is a little upset right now,he'll get over it.I would be excited to see what a new OC brings to the table. This offense has been in need of a spark and some fresh ideas.I know if I was playing I'd be raring to go.

Should have guessed from your user name you may be a little defensive about coach being on a "short leash". We all have our own opinions so we'll just have to agree to disagree as to whether he is or not. Cheers! :drinks:

A couple of members were saying that the senior bowl this week will be a impromptu job fair of sorts and that some candidates might be talked to there.
