I recall that last season one of the positives on him were that he was a sure tackler. If it's not the hand issue I wonder what else it could be?

We would hope. The way the D has been snagging some turnovers in the redzone id have felt better if they got him down.

I thought he was as well, just seems this year even early on he was going for the knockout (as is the trend) and it was costing some YAC.

I was honestly excited having Blake back this year. Don't know what happened other than he ain't passing the eye test and the results are on paper of his hurting the team throughout this season.

If anybody says that Blake is better then Boyton in coverage, then I wonder if they are watching the same game. Both stink at tackling along with Cockrell.

Why did they wait to put Boyton in.? Only after Blake go burnt did I see them put him in.

His legend is better than Blake's reality.

Sorry about the heading, posted in haste after seeing the tackle out of bounds that costed us 15 yds, and then the TD from blown assignment.

To Blake's credit, i think he he's got a lot of heart, but he just doesn't have the instincts for the position. Don't want to breakdown the physics of the position, such as his arms are too short, so he cannot wrap to tackle etc..but he should not be starting as our number two corner on the outside (period).

I wonder if Blake can play safety, when he plays off and a guy catches the ball he can lay the boom pretty good.

I am confused by his snap count? It is not warranted.

Safety wasn't deep enough, but when blake gets burned he has a knack for knocking someone else off the tackle. Happened again on that play.

It would be hard to justify Blake's play this season. He is horrible. And to say Boykin isn't as good? How much tape is there on Boykin? Ummm two games. Personally I thought McCain was a better alternative. They have what they have at this point. Hopefully this patchwork doesn't cost them any more games.

I thought we had moved on from Blake starting, or at least seeing a lot of playing time, so I was surprised to see him out there as much as he was. AJ Green does that to a lot of CB's, so I'm not too upset, but it does add more fuel to the Blake dumpster fire.

I like Blake; always have. He usually plays aggressive and fiesty which is hard to find in a CB. This just isn't his year, and if he's around for 2016 I think he should get some looks at safety where he can mostly keep the action in front of him.

It is time to go with DHB .. No this is not a joke...DHB is the first guy down on punts and he is making solid hits on kick offs ....This is better than Blake in 2 ways...This means he can tackle better than Blake because Blake can't tackle at all. This means he can run faster than Blake so he has the ability to run down a Speedy WR which Blake can not do at all...

Blake should be cut , he is the best friend to every QB we face, other Teams should be paying him to play he is more on their Team than he is on ours ...I was hoping he was going to get into a major brawl and get suspended for the year .I was looking at the screen like go WWF on em Blake hit em with a Power Bomb, close line, drop kick, flying elbow...Kick him in the ding, ding .. Anything just please get tossed...

I sorry folks, but dosen't Blake lead the league in missed tackles. I thought I had heard this and it isn't even close. Yesterday his tackling was even worse then prior games. Did you see him on one tackle trying to chest bump the runner instead of tackling. It's bad enough he is not covering good and leaving too much space between him and the receivers but then not being able to tackle just makes it worse.

Also did you see the difference between Nelson playing saftey and Mitchel. Nelson on the interception comes across the field to help the corner and made the interception. You never see Mitchel make the play and he never helps the corners on the back end. Although this is what you get when you invest in you secondary like Nelson as he was a 1st round pick for the Jaquars and I not sure if we even have a 3rd rounder in our secondary.

Next years draft.: Corner, Saftey, Corner, Saftey, Corner, Saftey.

We are good Corner and a good Saftey from being a really, really good team.

Our Secondary is atrocious. Here is what I think. Blake: has heart and the attitude, has power for such a small guy. Can't cover, can't tackle, stiffer than a board so he gets beat a lot. Occasionally makes a play but that's what happens when the ball is thrown your way 3/4 of the game. Cockrell is an upgraded version of Blake. He is decent, has an eye for the ball, on a good secondary he would be subpar lol. Can't tackle. Boykin is fast, can defend passes, has an eye for the ball. Can't tackle and he slips. Upgrade over the previous 2. Will allen is smart, just slow as hell. Mitchell is decent. Hard hitter but is a dodobrain sometimes. Golden I can't complain. He is overall very decent.

@SteelerGlenn@SteelerGlenn it really doesn't matter if Blake is the best option available because at this point he and Allen have been targeted league wide as the weak links to attack on a weak secondary. A rookie QB looked like a vet starter on some of those throws and most of them were passes targeting Blake and Allen. So yeah maybe Boykin sucks rocks but he is more of an unknown for opposing teams than a guaranteed completion with Blake. They need to get Blake out period.

I agree as one poster said, we are a defensive secondary
away from being a very good team. A Superbowl winning caliber team
and with the window closing see #7 we better get those secondary players soon.

I think we can all agree that our situation at corner is a mess right now. In my view our best grouping right now is Gay and Cockrell outside, and Boykin in the slot. Gay has played well, but the remainder of our corners have been spotty at best. The one thing that I like about Cockrell is that he matches up well against bigger players. I think back to one play against Jimmy Graham a few weeks ago where he was beaten for a big gain, but his coverage was great and he got his hands in the right position to break up the pass. Graham just managed to do his Jimmy Graham thing and get the ball with a great catch. I remember other times this season where Cockrell has contested passes that would be easy completed against some of our other corners. Boykin is solid in coverage most of the time, especially inside. He did have an awful blown coverage to set up the Bengals' last TD, but overall he has upgraded our downfield coverage the past few weeks.

Blake may be one of our best options on the outside when healthy, but right now he's a brutal liability.

As crappy as our corner play has been, I find myself very disappointed that Grant hasn't found a way to work his way into the mix. I watched everything I could find on him in college before the draft, and I was sure that he would be ready to contribute by mid season.

Blake is rated the worst corner in the NFL. Limiting his snap counts is the way to go. Doran Grant had 7 snaps with the defense so they are starting to work him in.
Sanders will eat Blake alive. Gay should be lined up against Sanders. I also hope to see Golden get more snaps over Allen.
