James Harrison looked like he was in his prime last night! We are getting the privilege of watching a true Steeler legend still perform at a high level. Based on the fact that he'll own all of the Steeler sack records before he retires and that he made one of the most, if not THE MOST, iconic and pivotal plays in Super Bowl history, does he receive HOF consideration when his career is over?

I believe he deserves to be in Canton but he will never make it. The committee will take into consideration how many fines he has paid during his career and Gooddell will establish a lifetime ban.

It's about time he made some plays to justify him getting all that playing time

Harrison had a 4-5 year period where he was outstanding, but the overall career because of years as a backup probably is not enough to get him in. Look at Kevin Greene - guy is one of the all time sack leaders and he isn't in yet.

I also think Hines Ward is going to have a tough time getting in as well with guys like Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, & Randy Moss who have more prolific numbers. I do think Ward deserves it because he played such a pivotal role in an offense that didn't really throw the ball as much until one glowing year with Tommy Gun Maddox and with Ben in the later part of Ward's career.

It's tough to justify a HOF bust for him. Love him as a steeler but his career numbers don't stack up, and he was only a part of 1 super bowl run.

He's 67th all time, with guys like Patrick Kerney ahead of him, and guys like John Abraham with double the career sack numbers. Obviously there's more to it than pure sack stats, but realistically I don't see it happening.

Hines Ward has 2 Super Bowl rings, and he also has a Super Bowl MVP.

The thing that will hurt Harrison most, is that he did absolutely nothing in the NFL until he hit about 28 years old.

He bounced around from teams (ravens, steelers) and was even in NFL Europe.

He took him a while to get it, but once he did he was a NFL hall of fame caliber player for a good 8 year period.

Not sure if it will be enough to get him in. Maybe someday years down the road perhaps. But, not early on for sure.

I think he needs 1 more huge Superbowl play ...I will be pulling for him to get this as hard as I can ...

They won't put him in the HOF, for fear he'll come out of retirement, record more sacks, then mess up all the numbers on their display.

To give you a little perspective. It took 13 years after his retirement for Art Monk to get in the HOF. Monk was a receiver kind of like Ward - more of a possession receiver, good hands...but not the outstanding athlete the way a guy like Randy Moss or Terrell Owens was. But when Monk left the game he is #1 on the list for all time receptions with 940 and he played on 3 SB winning teams. If it took Monk 13 years to get in, how long will it take Ward and will he even get in considering you have this crop of receivers he is competing against such as Owens, Moss, Bruce, Harrison who have more catches and yards than Ward? Also you are then dealing with a group of guys who will have just retired or will retire soon including Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith, and Andre Johnson. Also you have a few TEs who are retired as well or will retire soon like Gonzales and Witten who don't directly compete against WR but may prevent a WR going in altogether.

There are definitely arguments for Ward - but he will have some stiff competition.

With James resume he surely should qualify for the induction. I'm sure he'll retire after SB50 maybe make defensive player of the year as in 2008 with another long run to the end zone. ;+)

What I've always said about Ward is that the WR label needs to be removed and replaced with the "football player" label. He's the most physically dominating WR to ever play the game. I truly believe DBs feared the guy. Like Mel Blount, he had a rule changed because of his physical style of play. He belongs in the HOF day one of eligibility!

I think Ward gets in. The fact that they actually made a rule to change the way he played should speak volumes about the type of player he was. Hardest hitting receiver ever, in my opinion.

He was the Ronnie Lott of WRs. I believe he could have played safety.

Jack - you don't have to convince me...he was my favorite player. But there is no way he would be 1st ballot HOF pick - I think we have to hope years 4-6 he gets in.

Of players that were on the Super Bowl XL, XLIII, and XLV rosters
    that should make the HOF.

For Sure: Big Ben, Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, Alan Faneca.
    Possible: Harrison, Heath Miller

I don't think anyone else was worthy.

I don't think Ward is a "for sure" guy. The rest of that list is though. I would say Hines has a much better chance than either Harrison or Miller. Harrison was a stud for 5-7 years, but will be hurt by his small numbers due to a shorter career. Miller probably won't get in because he will have to compete with TE's that have superior numbers in Gonzales, Witten, then Jimmy Graham down the line. He was a really important player for us for a long time, and he was/is a really good player, I just don't think he is a HoF player. I hope I'm wrong.

No way he goes to Canton but man he sure does deserve his spot in Steeler lore and in some ways that's even better than Canton. We've got a pretty illustrious history and especially at his position in particular. He's in the same boat with Heath where he's an all time Steeler great that fans will never forget. A lot of the whole Hall of Fame thing is political and you need certain people pulling for you to get in there whether you deserve it or not. If you go down in Steelers history you absolutely deserve it and will forever be welcome in Steeler Nation.

Miller could have been more of a pass catching TE and put up much bigger reception/yards numbers, but because he was asked to block so often to compensate for a weak offensive line it will cost him the HOF. What a shame that maybe the best all-around TE in NFL history won't be in the Hall. It's all about the stat line, period!

I cheered my ass off and at the same time looked for every stinking reason they could overturn or take it away

    DO NOT
draft linebacker in the 1st rd

he is still a viable resource
