Well, unfortunately for the coaches it's always going to be on the players to execute the play while blame often gets thrown at the guys on the sidelines. It's on the coaches to determine when they think the right time is to roll the dice, and try to pick the most opportune times to do so.

To use the fake FG as an example, I just don't think it was the right timing - momentum was in our favor, and the substitution package was detectable given the play came on the heels of the EoQ timeout. But hey, credit to Tomlin and Co. they recovered and headed to halftime with the lead.

Yeah the hot reads can neutralize this defense as well as it can be neutralized I suppose.

 

I don't know about "wiser" but it was definitely healthier because my blood pressure might have spiked dangerously high. LOL!
