Come on Tibet, reading comprehension is so 1800's. :D

I guess the guy I wanted most that I'm glad we didn't take would be Peter Konz, C, WI. The Falcons ended up with him in the 2nd round a few years back and I'm not sure he's even in the league anymore.

Other than that I'm never wrong. :whistley:

Except for thinking Le'Veon wouldn't amount to much.

Lacy being benched is largely because GB's OL is trash.

Starks has 269 yards on 76 carries for 3.5 YPC if you take away his one fluke long run.

Lacy is a good downhill runner. Bell is the better back but Lacy would have been a lot better in Pittsburgh too. Lacy is a Cowher type back while Bell is the prototype "new NFL" back.

I'd probably Marqise Lee, although it's still early and I bet playing for Ben and the Steelers might've helped him instead of playing for the Jags. In terms of guys I'm really glad we didn't take, I'd go Stanley Jean-Baptiste. I didn't consider him deaftable and he went in the second round.

The recent picks I didn't care for were Adams (despite my OSU bias), James and Dupree. Picks I was pumped for were Bell, Tuitt, Heyward and Shazier (kinda homer on that last two).

I was most upset about missing the chance to get Patrick Willis. Timmons turned out to be a good consolation. I'm sure most people would be upset about missing Aaron Donald, but I think he is playing in a defense he can thrive in. Idk if he replicates his success on a 34 team.

As for FA's I'm most glad we didn't go after Brandon Browner (worst rated CB this year). Most upset that we didn't go after Charles Clay, although je signed for way more than I was willing to give him

I'm with you on Barrett Jones, Snack. I was sure he was our pick in the 4th that year. I always go crazy looking at the "best available" lists after each day of the draft. After day two and he was still there, I thought for sure it was meant to be...then the Rams took him. I was so pumped when we got him this year. He must have never recovered from all the injuries? :dontknow:

Oh I agree he probably would have been to much but we didn't know that back then. I think it would have been a nice problem to have, lol. I love these threads where you can look back ans just see who you liked and didn't and how they turned out.

I wanted Kyle Wilson that year too!! lol, so that's one I'm glad we didn't get.

2011 and 2012 I think I was traveling too much to really spend time on the draft so I don't remember if I was pulling for anyone those years. I really wanted DeAndre Hopkins or Desmond Trufant in 2013.

My buddy that loves San Diego stays mad at Weddle because he commits quite a bit of penalties. So be careful what you wish for. LOL!

I was furious with that pick as well. Don't feel bad. I do think he will wind up panning out IF he can stay healthy though.

I really wish we could have gotten Charles Woodson. I also wanted Pierre Thomas at one point but D Will has seemed to have worked out for us quite well.

If I had my way, Tyler Eifert would be in a Steelers uniform right now instead of Jarvis Jones. I couldnt believe Eifert fell to Pittsburgh in 2013 and couldnt believe they passed on him. I love Jesse James and I'm hoping he could grow into a nice replacement for Heath, but Eifert is a stud. The Bengals got a steal with him. Pittsburgh missed out.

I understand your viewpoint completely. I've always wondered if Haley would be able to use a stud TE like Eifert. It just doesn't seem like his forte. And believe me, I'm the biggest Miller fan you'll meet, I just realize his parameters. Heck Sean Payton and Brees can't even seem to utilize CJ Spiller. Although different positions, it seems some OCs utilize certain positions (ie TE) better than they would others.

Haley seems to emphasize the WR and RB. Is this a chicken and egg discussion? Would we use the TE if we had him??? IDK, Haley hasn't shown that or his effectiveness with the small scatback, at least here in Pittsburgh.

I think Heath is such an awesome blocker and selfless player that it sorta hurts him in the "stat" department. I don't think it's that Haley doesn't really want to use TE's but more that Heath is used the way he is out of necessity. I always try to think about how good players would be on our team when they had to deal with our offensive line. Eifert is a great catcher and athletic but can he pass protect? Is he a good blocker? Would he be as effective if he were having to come in and help block since we are down to 2nd and 3rd stringers on the line? Things like that. There's so many dang variables that go in to being effective in the NFL that it's mindblowing. It's a delicate balance as they say.

I do not tend to really push for college players, as I do not watch enough to really know them all.
I was actually happy when they took Adams as he was projected as 1st round talent. Not sure why he can't get it. So this is my bust.

The one guy I really wanted that we passed on was Navarro Bowman, but we took Emanuel Sanders at that spot and passed.
At the time I was envisioning Woodley in his prime, Timmons, Bowman, JH for our LB corps.

In FA, I want to get Burfict when he was available for basically nothing.

I was an Eifert fan, I just think they had a higher grade on JJ and weren't quite ready to look for Heaths replacement. Had they chosen him though, Haley would have been able to use him, he uses Heath way more than BA ever did. Heath is such a good blocker though that he is often called upon to do that.

If we had Tyler Eifert along with Heath this year we possible could be 8 and 1. Instead of 5 and 4.

The question is, "Would the Steelers have used him AND Heath?" Because they would not have taken Heath off the field. The only way the Eifert selection makes any sense is if we turn into a full-time two TE offense, and take off a WR. Not to mention he'd have to battle Spaeth, who contributes mightily in a different department. They weren't ready to make that change, and certainly not ready to draft Heath's replacement.

I read a pathetic SteelersDepot article about how the Steelers should have selected safety Jairus Byrd instead of Ziggy Hood. Yeah, Byrd's the better player, but if they'd taken him in 2009 when Clark and Polamalu were both still in their 20s, he wouldn't have even seen the field until his rookie contract was up already. It would have been a complete waste, as opposed to Ziggy, who helped us get to a Super Bowl his second season.

There's no question Jarvis has failed to meet their expectations, but as underwhelming as he's been, I'd say he's contributed as much or more than Eifert would have, had we drafted him. And as everyone knows, I don't require all first round picks to be superstars, especially in a draft as rocky as 2013. If he can become a solid starter, I consider it a success. I think he's well on his way.

I'd really like to see him play a full game with plenty of pass rush opportunities, against a non All-Pro LT. It's hard to make a dent only getting a handful of opportunities per game.

Agreed. And Michael Vick would be on his way to the Pro Bowl. Because the guy who couldn't find success with Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant and Heath Miller just needed one more weapon to turn things around.

Impossible to say how much he would have been used but what I do know is, they'd have a good player ready to take over for Heath, who is nearing the end.

I went back and forth on who they should draft, I wanted Eifert but knew JJ was a bigger need, whom I liked as well. If this is as good as JJ is going to get, and Im not saying it is but if it is, then I obviously wish theyd have drafted Eifert.

Im starting to wain in my support of JJ, the fact that Harrison is getting so many snaps, that doesn't speak well of JJ. Not giving up on him yet, hopefully he's a late bloomer.

It's an interesting question. I always thought having Eifert and Heath on the same line together would have been something to see. I didn't think about Haley's scheme and whether or not a 2 tight end offense would change a whole lot of Pittsburgh's offense. I just loved Eifert coming out of college and thought he would have been perfect here, and still do.

As for other drafts, I honestly can't recall feeling like Pittsburgh should be taking anybody different at the time. I was usually happy/satisfied with their selections. I remember feeling skeptical about drafting Archer 2 years ago and Golson this past year, but I also remember feeling good about Ziggy Hood, Mike Adams, and Curtis Brown. Hindsight really is 20/20 for everybody.

Yeah feels like the last 5 years we have been looking CB in the 1st and the Steelers go other directions and this one was a nice pick by them. Kinda funny about 2011 I am not recalling that draft and who I wanted. And for the record I am drug free.....drink my share but am drug free, must be I am getting old, lol! I also liked Trufant but he wasn't a must guy for me.
