When Ben is in the shotgun, he does a lot of pointing into the secondary. I thought at first he was pointing out linebackers that would need to be accounted for in his protection, but the O-line have their backs to him, so the pointing is useless, as they can't see him. So maybe it is for the receivers to see Ben's idea of the coverage? But they don't seem to be looking at him either. So what is the purpose? And is he telegraphing anything?

I'm not absolutely sure but one thing I am absolutely sure about is that a lot of what happens in a pre-snap ritual is nothing more than gamesmanship. Peyton Manning is a master of it. It's possible that Ben could be engaging in some of that too.

Could be pointing out who he wants the RB to pick up on the Blitz?

The pointing isn't all it's about...... I'm sure he's sounding off to the o-line as well

I believe he's just pointing out what they see in game film preparations and where the anticipated rush is coming from. Every other QB in the league does the same.

True, but who are they pointing it out to? The people picking up the rush have their backs to him. Is it simply for his own reinforcement, like counting on your fingers - maybe he is counting to see if they have 11 on the field.

I'm not sure if you're referring to a specific play, but most times the linemen are not set and are looking back at Ben when he is pointing out which players he thinks are coming on the blitz. A lot of times on television you can even hear Ben calling out the numbers of opposing players that he wants blocked.

It's like going to the symphony. The conductor is waiving his arms and the musicians all look like they are looking at the sheets.

If you're talking about pointing across the line, he's either pointing out the Mike, or he's pointing to the blitz pickup. That's it. As far as no one looking, some of the linemen are looking out of the corner of their eye. Some aren't, but if you watch other quarterbacks, pointing out the Mike as you identify him is SOP, for linemen too before they're set.

Other times he's pointing to where he wants a WR or RB to motion to in the no huddle, which he does a lot and is almost always misdirection as far as I'm aware, but I don't think you're talking about that.

It seems like it's also a way for him to do subtle motions the receivers are supposed to pick up on as well. The infamous face-mask grab to signal AB, etc.

What is so impressive with Ben and Brown is how they each know exactly what the other one is seeing and seem to be on the same page 99% of the time. A running play is called and with a quick hand motion AB is getting a heater after a one step drop. Or how they know where the hot read is and the type of route. It is truly a work of art when this offense gets rolling. It is too bad injuries are really slowing the show.

think his pointing was a CAPTION THIS foto one time and
    IIRC
it was unanimous it dealt with farting
I like to think it is Ben pointing someone out on defense that he thinks looks funny
