Dupree in 8 games as a rookie has 4 sacks, and Jones in 28 games has 4.5 sacks in his career. Well at least Colbert got one of the picks right in Dupree, Jones has a fifth year option on his contract at 8 million or so coming up next season the Steelers won't pick up his option.

What's the breakdown in what they are asking Dupree to do vs Jones? Aldo Smith looked like a beast his rookie year because he saw spot duty where his only job was to get after the QB. I think we were talking about using Dupree similarly until he got more experience. If his skill set allows him to get after the QB why have him be an understudy get him in there and turn him loose. Jones has a few more responsibilities but I don't think that excuses him when he is tasked with blitzing. I would be interested to see the breakdown

JJ has played in 28 games? That doesn't sound right.

I can't really speak to what the team is asking him to do when he's in there per se (aside from assumption from situational subs), but here are their stats:

    Jones (28 G).. 4.5 sacks, 49 tackles, 29 assists, 4 PD, 2FF

    Dupree (8 G).. 4 sacks, 11 tackles, 5 assists, 1 PD

Projecting Dupree to 28 G under his current assignments.. 14 sacks, 38 tackles, 18 assists, 4 PD

Not much to draw off the extrapolated numbers since Dupree has obviously seen a truncated amount of snaps and responsibilities, but there they are all the same.

Really our defense as a whole seems to have slowed down on the sacks in the past few years.

Yea but our defense has improved. 1st in turnovers, 5th in sacks and 5th in points allowed while playing some top offensive teams

Given our offensive woes, our defense is elite. Flawed but elite

Actually we've gotten much better in that department over the past two years. The few years before last we were one of the worst in the league in turnovers and sacks.

I still hate that JJ pick. Hated it when we took him and still do.

They should've drafted Tyler Eifert that year.

Our offence would be incredible with a move TE like that.

Yeah it was just a pretty big slump compared to what we were when we were great under Lebeau. Jason Worilds even complained about having to drop back in coverage and not being allowed to rush as much as he would like to. It's easy to see why though with how bad our secondary has been.

Projecting the numbers for the 2nd half of this season only shows a potentinal to be markedly improved in sacks. 2014 wasn't any better than the few years preceding it.

    Year: Sacks.. Int.. FF/FR

    2015 (8G): 22.. 7.. 5/4

    2015 (16G proj): 44.. 14.. 10/8
    2014: 33.. 11.. 14/10
    2013: 34.. 10.. 19/10
    2012: 37.. 10.. 15/10
    2011: 35.. 11.. 14/4
    2010: 48.. 21.. 28/14

    2010 - 28 forced fumbles - that's a crazy number....or are the other years just really bad?

Woodley dropped back a lot too. Lebeau's defense didn't change much. Woodley just produced and didn't complain.

I loved Woodley but he just didn't seem to have the dedication that it really takes. Dude stayed out of shape constantly and on the sidelines as a result.

If we'd drafted Eifert he'd have seen about 15 snaps at this point in his career.

I don't have numbers to back this up, but I'm certain they turned Woodley loose on the QB more than Worilds. Woodley was good in coverage for his size, but overall he was lumbering and slow compared to the rest of our linebackers, including Worilds. Worilds was asked to drop and spy more than Woodley. I think that's part of what made Worilds frustrated - he took over the same position and then didn't get the same chances.

Out of curiosity, do you know how well he pass protects?

I would have loved to have gotten deandre Hopkins instead of Jarvis jones
Can you imagine that passing attack?

Little off topic but, I wonder why Colbert isn't picking draft choices based on ones he picks that show up good. As in, ask Cockerel who he likes in the college game at CB, Dupree as a LB. Can't hurt. Think the best FA we picked up since Farior is Cockrel too. I met to say FA and draft picks at the start

Jarvis Jones will have another year to prove he wasn't a bust before they have to exercise the 5th year option. Personally I don't see that happening.
    Dupree already has more upside.

Jones is not a bust . He is just not a 3-4 guy ,not sure why they took him he just doesn't fit . He will be a good player on another Team in the right system .

    Woodley 40 time 4.62 seconds
    Worilds 40 time 4.72 seconds

Woodley was fast enough to cover the flat in a zone scheme and he did that a lot. He definitely dropped more than Harrison.

Woodley was much better than Worilds. Woodley was an All-pro for a couple years whereas Worilds wasn't in the conversation for Probowls.

Worilds was a decent LOLB but he was no where close to the passrusher or run stopper that Woodley was.

Steelers Depot broke down his rushes Oct 8 last year. He rushed on 75% of passing downs vs the Jags. He rushed 30 times that game and 32 times the week before. I strongly feel those percentages are comparable to Woodley's.

If you were the DC would you rush the guy who beats double teams and has multiple double sack seasons or the guy who can't more often? Woodley SHOULD have rushed more often since he was better at it.

People hate Woodley because they perceive his chrinic hamstring injury as him being lazy. People need to show Woodley some love because he was as good as Gildon and Greene in his prime and maybe better.
