49ers have cut him and I know he deffiently has the heart to play. The man is 6'2", 220, and can learn so much from the Steelers, the speed he has at his size can be useful. Thoughts?

Yeah, I was liking what I saw in him so far this season. I'm not sure I'd take him over a conventional RB, but heck I'd dump Archer to get him.

The 9er's are desperate for RB's yet they just cut him. That says lots. I'll pass

Let's hold on Shaner, the Niners liked him they just have zero depth and while he plays with heart, it is still his first year playing American football and he has a lot to learn. THat being said he has shown that he is fearless and can pound the rock. Definitely could develop into a goal line back/short yardage like a Najae Davenport. I'd happily cut Vick for him, perhaps Cam Thomas, even Archer if he brings that can do attitude

I'd sign an 80 year old handicapped lady if it meant cutting Vick.

No, they have Nix to do what Hayne can do

Yes, but I'm not so sure that Hayne has to exclusively play offense. I think he'd also be a potent red zone defender. I would drop Archer for Hayne, and I'm an Archer fan. Our football team would be better off because of it.

No on Hayne. His only real upside for us would be that he has experience returning punts, but he has been putting quite a few of them on the turf... So that kinda nullifies that right away. We have Todman and Pead to back up Williams. Idk that Hayne is better than either of those guys

I say keep Archer and Hayne for kick/punt returners. Have Hayne gain weight and become a better blocker too and be starting fullback

His size is the main reason he would a good take. After learning from all of the steelers team, he can be a good NFL player. Him weighing more and becoming a better blocker would make him an extent fullback for the Steelers

If Hayne can't play for the sorry 49ers, why would the Steelers want him? They already have Will Johnson and Nix to fill that role.

Todman looks like he runs hard anytime he gets the ball. I would be utilizing him more on KR duties and would like to see how he does in the backfield. As for Hayne, I would rather they pick him up for next training camp to get a better look at him first. There not going to pick a guy up midseason who has little NFL/football experience. They wouldn't trust him enough to put him on the field anyway as the season progresses.

Bring him in next TC, I'd be all for it.

He can and did play for the Niners but they have injury problems just like the Steelers did and you can't keep a project guy when you need some roster spots for full time players. Had Bush and Hyde both been healthy than Hayne is still on the team.

So the Steelers are supposed to cut somebody just to sign Hayne? If he's so good how come no team has signed him? Fans get caught up in the story just because he's a former rugby star.

You get too caught up in other people opinions all the time. Need I remind you of your ill fated every owner in the NFL agrees with me that James Harrison is washed up, the Rooney's agree with me that he is washed up, the newspaper guy that is trying to sell papers wrote a story that agrees with me. Except no one agreed with you. They may have shared a similar view based on information at that time but most were wrong just like you were and the Rooney's brought him back.

No one here said Hayne was soo good. He is a project guy that showed a lot of heart and some real athletic ability that flashed in the preseason. He showed a willingness to humble himself and learn a game that he had never played and did so very in a way that made people take notice. The guy has that quality I'd look for if I needed a go to guy on the field. Currently the Steelers have several players on that roster that don't have a tenth of the heart this guy showed and who are basically barely showing up. I'd cut and take the 1 million cap hit or whatever it is prorated to get rid of Cam Thomas and get Hayne on the team. The Steelers like project guys of late, Adams, AV, heck even Will J was a project guy and NIX is as well they have the staff to teach these guys and a very good RB coach to boot.

Yeah because Hayne is going to put the Steelers over the top , he's nothing but a special teams player the Steelers don't need another FB.

Made it through waivers and signed to the Niners practice squad so apparently he can play for the Niners. Strike 1

Signed with his old team so somebody wanted him. Strike 2

I think I pretty much addressed your habit of being wrong and using inconclusive information to back your position, I also addressed your claim that anyone in this thread thought he was soooooo good. People like his character and what he showed in learning a game he had never played. You basically ignored that fact.

I don't believe I ever made that claim nor did anyone else. but allow me to respond to it with a question would Ross Vetrone? I am assuming once he is healthy he will be brought back for special teams. He is going to put them over the top?

    What about these guys:
    Jordan Dangerfield
    Matt Feiler
    B.J. Finney
    L.J. Fort
    Isaiah Frey
    Xavier Grimble
    Caushaud Lyons
    Shakim Phillips
    Fitzgerald Toussaint

Those are the current PS guys listed on the teams official site. Dangerfield has been cut and resigned numerous times and the rest look like a who's who of the bottom of the barrel but they are the future. Is one of those guys going to step in and put the team over the top? Will they ever crack a game day roster? Yeah dropping one of them to sign a former Rugby player who showed potential is a head shaking idea. Better to keep those studs just in case BA needs someone down there in Arizona. Strike 3

See you next August since you have called the season over and should be leaving soon

I think Hayne would make one heckuva red zone threat on both sides of the ball. Labeling him as an exclusive-rights FB is painting him into a corner he doesn't belong in. With his size, athleticism, and tenacity he'd be an instant upgrade to our football team over Dri Archer.

I like Dri and have hopes he'll make some splash plays yet for us, but holding on to him and letting Hayne sit on the Niner's practice squad is a mistake. The guy clearly has the desire to succeed in this league, has the attributes to make it happen, and we're sitting on our hands. We're being too conservative in this personnel decision and I wish our FO would show some foresight here.

Dri, at this point in his career and probably forever, is a KR-only guy. With kick returns de-emphasized, lets pick up a guy that can help in more areas and stick Todman back on KR duty.
