Interesting read. It seems to me to be a combination of Blake playing below part, making some bad reads, and perhaps - perhaps - the new Butler scheme still not quite fitting into place when they go up against particular looks on offense.

Blake should not be playing and everybody can see it . I guess this just shows just how bad the Steelers are at the CB position .... I stated last year we should go CB,CB,Safety with the first 3 picks and I got clowned .The more I watch this Team the more it looks like that's exactly what we needed to do and will need to do again this draft .

Someone from the Bengals is going to have a huge game this week, we can't help everywhere which is basically what is needed ...

I didn't pay attention to how the first three rounds progressed PWP were there quality guys available? Are you talking making moves to get up and get quality guys?

Blake has been disappointing this year for sure. His tackling has regressed; either he's too confident that he'll knock the snot out of everyone or an injury is getting to his head. Either way I think it's mental, and he's young enough, athletic enough, and inexpensive enough to keep around to see if he improves. While his awareness within the system may be keeping him in a starting role, his awareness in pass protection is hurting his production.

I don't know what's worse: giving up plays because you aren't yet good enough (Blake), or giving up plays because you don't yet know the defense (Boykin, Grant). As much as I like Blake I'd have to lean towards the better current player, I guess, and hope for a quick OJT in how our defense operates. If Boykin is healthy enough to play, let's see what he can do in a more increased role.

i gravitate towards " good enough" (blake) and i don't buy that boykin and grant don't know the defense well enough, since it's well advertised that it's been dummied down as per the DC.

Either grant and or Boykin has really pissed the coach off, or Mike's still not willing to call things as they are
And switch personnel up. It seems the only time he changes much is if he can do so under the guise of an injury, wether there is an injury or not. It's maddening. I know we don't see what they see throughout practices, around the facility, etc... But man somethings gotta give. If a guy isn't cutting it, then try the other guy pretty simple. Who knows maybe it works or maybe it doesn't. But when the game tape is that obvious there are no excuses to be made.

Opposing teams are targeting Blake, because he can't cover anyone. They need to play Boykin more and promote Grant, they can't be much worse than Blake.

F we could draft secondary half as good as wide outs, we would be a juggernaut.

I agree it is like Cortez Allen two years ago when teams decided to make him their whipping boy and just went after him time and time again. Guys were down on Allen but when you are picked on that much you are going to look bad and then really bad.

Apparently Blake has a cast on his hand/arm, preventing him from tackling or making interceptions.

If he is a liability with the cast he shouldn't play.

The problem with how we approached the DB issue in the draft this year is how expectations matched results.

They needed a replacement for Taylor, so they drafted two guys; one seemed to be concealing an injury. The lack of a huge amount of FA activity suggested to me the coaches were expecting Cortez to come back strong. So far... we're yet to see.

They needed a replacement for Troy, but they seemed to be expecting Shamarko to step up this season, and have Mitchell and Allen hold the fort in the meantime, which meant they could take the risk on Holliman and hope he panned out. Didn't work.

From all of this, the one good thing that's happened is that Mike Mitchell has looked better this season. Every other expectation has proved to be hugely optimistic.

More wanting to make some moves and get some better talent . We have wasted picks to get a bum kicker we threw away another to get a CB who just rides the pine ...I am fed up with the hold on and wait BPA crap we need real CB'S and real Safety help . In round #1 Trae Waynes,Kevin Johnson and Marcus Peters all got off the board .All of which are 2 times better than any CB we have . Could have traded Cortez and some picks and went and got one .

In round # 2 Landon Collins, Jaleen Collins,Jaquiski Tartt,Eric Rowe,Ronald Darby, all came off the board before we picked. All of those guys are better than any player that the Steelers have . Could have moved out of the 1st. and got 2 of them or moved up and got 1 of them..

We need Quality players not bulk we have a bunch of DB'S and none of them are good ...

Blake is struggling............ As long as he doesn't take himself out mentally and continues to grow/improve we'll be ok. Developing young players can be tricky. Leave them in and they get overwhelmed or take them out and they get discouraged........ every player is different.

From what i hear they love his work ethic. Love his confidence.

i was all about rowe. i have to say though, i think we have a lot of talent in dupree. i'm seeing some good stuff from this kid. much better than JJ and i've backed JJ until lately. he's still not where he needs to be. dupree seems much further ahead. now as far as golson, that pick would have been fine but we didn't need another nickle back at that time, we needed a starter calibur guy on the outside. a number 1 guy. i think grant can be a good 2 in time. golson was more of a luxury pick to add to 2 good corners.

Same here, Mac- on Rowe and on Dupree. I do think Golson can play more than just nickle, regardless of his frame. He's just one of those guys who plays bigger than his size. We'll see the dividends of this draft next year.
