He was playing a team who, despite their record, matched up well against us, and were extra motivated as their season was on the line.

Did he perform well under those conditions? Not especially - but it wasn't horrific. His deep ball wasn't great, and he tried to force a few balls in. Otherwise, he did what a back up should.

Plus, he put up more than -6 yards passing in a half. And considering who his competition is, that's significant.

Like others have said, he didn't play that poorly. Backup QBs are backup QBs for a reason. It's rare to see them light it up when the starter is out. Yes it happens, but usually the team that loses its starting QB is going to struggle. His play against the Chiefs was typical for a 2nd string QB making his first career start in a hostile environment.

Hes a THIRD string QB who has been with the team 3 seasons. Knows the play book. However the STEELER brass still thought bringing Vick in off his couch was a better move than handing the reins to Dirty. That told me something!

Should tell you that they place a premium on veteran experience over time in the system. It says they will always choose an aging vet over a young player no matter the talent level between the two.less to do with talent and ability and more with team's confidence in unproven depth players.

Well, I agreed with the team at the time that he was a 3rd stringer based on what we had seen of LJ on the field in the past 3 preseasons. However, I'm now judging him on what we've seen when he actually got onto the field in real games. You're responding like many of us are saying that he's the next franchise QB of this team. I'm certainly not saying anything like that. What I'm saying is that he played like a typical 2nd string NFL QB in a hostile environment, and frankly he played better than we've seen other backups pressed into service, and even a few starting QBs play around the league this season (Ryan Mallett anyone? Brandon Weeden anyone? MIKE VICK anyone?). He is better than I thought he was. I think he's proving that he's a legit backup QB in this league. That doesn't mean he's great, but there aren't many backup QBs sou there who can go out and kick butt for several weeks. It's rare.

Mike Vick should have won 2 games to Landrys 1.

Landry had 1 good quarter and a few good throws in the Chiefs game. If Bell doesn't rush for 120-130 it would have looked even worse.

I still think he sucks just as bad as Weeden and Vick. If the Cowboys played defense, Weeden could have had a couple wins.

Defense is the difference maker without a starting QB. We have seen it time and time again over the last few years.

Tells me they were wrong! Even you said they should have played Jones.

Hell, I would have taken you over Vick :lolol:

Of course they were wrong. They should have started Jones once Ben went down. Three years on the roster. Knows the play book. Spent a 4th on him. Give the kid his chance. Like I said sink or swim. We still dont know how good or bad he really is. Not with a game and a half under his belt.

And yes I would have played at my best as well as Vick.;)

I don't know how he's gonna do in the future- but I do know a few things about him right now.

•• He's smart. Ben even said that Landry probably knows the playbook better than he does.

••Vick played the back half of the Rams game, the front half of the Chiefs game, & 2 whole games in between. Vick had a total of 371 pass yards, 2 TD's, & 1 INT. Landry played 1 & 1/2 games & had 377 pass yards, 3 TD's, & 2 INT's. Neither interceptions were terrible throws, one of them was AB's fault. He's better than Vick, that's for sure.

•• He has Big Ben to learn from.

Who knows what he'll do in the future- he could be great or he could turn back into LoLandry. He needs experience & playing time to really find out.
