look, I know they aint perfect but if you had told me to start the year we would lose ben, shazier, pouncey along with Bryant and bell suspened and we are 4-2 through 6 games. I would have said no possible way.

I want to give some credit to this coaching staff. sure the vick experiment didn't work great but we did win one game with him and held on in another. you can also blame one lose on a lousy kicker and bad play calling.

I just think they get hammered a lot when things aint going great and sometimes deservedly so. I just think that they have gotten the most out of this roster. and speaking of the roster I think it is a lot better than I gave credit. we seem to be pretty deep. I mean, some guys have really stepped up.

I know this will turn into a blasting tomlin thread. I hope not because I think when you look at it, we are pretty damn lucky to have him.

also major props to keith butler. I love the different blitzes. I can actually watch a game now and not be able to tell you who is coming. unlike the past few years.lol

Yes we are. I like the way Butler's calling the games, it's a breath of fresh air. Your not going to stop the Tomlin hate, I know Cowher used to get his share. It is what it is.

    I'm always an optimist.

But I have the feeling that board opinion is going to ping pong a bit this year.

One bad game by Landry... one "coaching incident" with Tomlin (a la his special teams contributions)... one Dri Archer fumble...

I think we're in for a hell of a ride this season. So far, though, a much more enjoyable experience that I expected.

credit to you too STEEL 1031 for getting them boys in your neck of the woods to finish that bridge:clapping:

it will be a true testament come next year for Tomlin when he has to replace most of the coaching staff

Why would Tomlin need to replace most of the coaching staff? Outside of Haley maybe getting another crack at a HC job, if he wants it, I don't see the rest of the staff turning over. My hope is everyone is happy with their role on the team and even if we have to pay those guys more money to hang onto them it would be well worth it. Maybe I am wrong but either way it is a good thing if your assistants are wanted. It means they are doing a good job which usually results in good things on the field.

If Butler keeps this defense rolling look for him to to be a hot prospect for an HC job....

Butler could be up for a HC job as well your right. However he is in his mid-50's I think.
A lot of teams like the younger guys, but not always.

Most head coaches that get hired are in their 50s and even in their 60s, only 2 or 3 younger than that in the league right now, owners dont care about age all they want is a coach who can win....

Ok that makes sense. Yes if we get ring number 7 then I could see people trying to raid our staff. The question becomes then are any of the assistants wanting a HC job and are they a hot enough prospect to wait for until the season ends? I really like the way the team is getting it done and that has to be a credit to the entire staff. My hope selfishly is they stick together for a long long time!

Will be a lot of open spots and I am sure Haley wants to be a HC. I think he is gone for sure . Butler will need a great Team showing and with one he will be gone.Teams know we have one of the worse back ends in the entire NFL playing good means a bunch for his stock...

I am not sure any of the other guys are HC material or if they want to be ?

Only one in danger of being poached is Haley. Nobody is throwing Butler a job unless we suddenly become the Steel Curtain of the 70's.

He might get offers after 2 years, not after 1.

I dont get the feeling anyone will be looking at Munch either.

Very impressed with Butler, Porter, Lake, Tomlin, ...

Whoever has "changed the culture", from sitting back, to attacking...

Don`t get me wrong, I loved LeBeau...

But I got tired of seeing qb`s sitting back comfortably in the pocket, to pick us apart, as the D-backs gave cushions...

We are still, "bend but don`t break"...

But we have definitely started to focus on pressuring the qb, again...

Have to attribute that to Butler..

    Long Overdue...

Makes Porter, and Lake`s backers look better...

And they have been swarming to the ball again, and not missing as many tackles as the last couple
years... I will split that credit between the players, and coaches...

    MUCH improved D!!!:thumbs up:

I admit I was nervous, to "hand over the reigns", from LeBeau..

He has had a legit Hall Of Fame career, as a co-ordinater, and as a player...

Tons of knowledge, in that brain...

But Butler has brought the BLITZ back to "Blitzburgh", and I love him for it!!!:butcher:

Not to mention, that I`m not sure Dupree would have seen the field this year, if Dick was still in charge...:hmm:...

    GO D!!!!

    So can I just check:

Is Carnell Lake a good coach, or not?

I'm left dazed and confused after the preseason arguments around here.

I'm trying to think of a head coach who was a DC for one year before becoming a head coach, seems like there was one
it's like right there on the tip of my tongue
it almost seems like I hear about him everyday but I just can't
    gosh it's obvious
    like should be standard knowledge
    who...

I honestly don`t know, but I have a couple guesses...

    Besides Tomlin,

    What was Marvin Lewis`s pedigree?...

    Romeo Crennel?...

Rex Ryan(Or am I thinking of his brother)?...

Jim Harbaugh(Or am I thinking of his brother)?...

Ummm... I`m sure there have been others, I just ain`t into doing the research to see...

I have a feeling "Google" could come up with at least 5 others...

    Andy Reid?

    Pettine?

I dunno... But I have a feeling the list isn`t as short as we seem to think.

    My vote is yes...

But, I am biased towards him as a player...

I really have no idea how much he impacts the players he`s given to work with...

I tend to think they are fools if they don`t listen to him...

The man knows what he`s talking about.:thumbs up::cool:

    GO STEELERS!
