I'm glad that failed try didn't factor in the outcome of the game, that was a bad decision the Steelers had a chance to go up 3 points in the 3rd qtr. Instead they were only up by 2 points with their 3rd string QB in the game, trying to convert a 2 point conversion just kick the extra point.

I was ticked at that decision. When we were lining up for that play, my wife was ready to call 911 I was screaming so loud. Not only was it a bad call going for it, they play call relied on timing with a back QB.

Tomlin is just a terrible game manager. Fortunately we keep getting away with it (other the Ravens game)

Charlie Batch is a huge homer that pretty much never criticizes Tomlin and even he said it was a stupid call. Not only that but how about the clock mgmt at the end of the half??? I honestly believe we are one of the top teams in the league when it comes to stupidity of situational football.

I guess Tomlin was riding the momentum of the moment. I think they should had kicked the extra point.

Has anybody in the league ran back a 2 for a 2 after picking one off yet?

That was idiotic. There's no excuse for the coach to make such a blunder. Thankfully it didn't hurt us.

I agree. I think somehow Tomlin figured he'd really plant a dagger by forcing Arizona to have to score a TD to win it after for all intents and purposes dominating the game to that point. Being a good leader means knowing when you take a chance and key on that emotion versus going with the better odds. To me, this was far too much emotion, too little on the odds. We should have gone for the PAT.

Tomlin is still a good leader regardless of the questionable decisions he makes sometimes. He must get his share of emotionally driven decisions correct.

Short of the offense committing turnovers, the odds suggested that the Steelers were going to win at that point.

I should have phrased my statement "Part of being a good leader is having to know when..." ; I didn't intend to make it sound like it did. That said, I've got my issues with Tomlin; I don't know that I'd call him a bad leader per se, but I certainly don't agree with some of his management and personnel decisions. Of course, the trick with the latter is knowing who all has had a say in certain instances.

As for the the odds, if you are talking about when they first took the lead I disagree. The only thing that really favored the Steelers at that point was the score. Arizona still had a signifcant advantage in yards and TOP; turnovers and penalties (and due credit to the defense stepping up when it had to), had kept us in the game. But it was the 4th quarter with a defense on the verge of again becoming gassed from overuse, an offense that had seen only one good drive, and a 3rd string QB. I don't see how the odds favored a Steeler win with a two point lead.

Well....it still ranks as only the SECOND worst decision to ever go for 2 in Tomlin's tenure.....the FIRST was against Jacksonville in the playoffs to try to cut a 5 point deficit to 3 in the third quarter. Sounded like an okay decision until you consider we had been called for holding on the first try and the LOS was the 12 yard line.....Um.....kick?!?!?!?!?

Because of that miss, we felt compelled to go for 2 after we scored again, taking a 1 point lead, failed, and then lost by 2 points on a last-second field goal.....

But you have to admit, not really a surprise after the past couple weeks' worth of headscratching moments by MT. Glad we got the W in both, but man... sooner or later you die by the sword, too.

OK, Ill have a stab at it....
There's a fine line between drinking wine and crushing grapes but such is life in the national football leauge. We recgonize the potential playoff ramifications and we set the bar high around here. I walk by 6 Super Bowl trophies every day not 2 point conversion trophies and we embrace that. We had all our men with hats on out there and our playmakers need to make splash plays when we unleash hell and we hold them accountable for that, obviously.

There is absolutely no excuse for such a boneheaded move. Tomlin is just not a strong head coach. No ability to not say what is the smart move. That call cd have easily cost the game. He is so bad. Pathetic really. Wait til he starts his boy vick next week.....

That call wasn't as bad as the one in Indy last night. On a 4th and 3 the Colts inexplicably lined up everyone but the center and QB wide right so that the C and QB were the only two in their regular positions. The Pats simply put 3 guys surrounding those two and unbelievablely the Colts snapped the ball and actually tried to sneak the ball for 3 yards with no blocking.

Agreed. This was a bad call (and normal) for MT.... but that Indy punt call.... their city should be burning.

Yeah, I'm glad the 2 pt conversion worked a couple of times early in the season, but that doesn't mean it makes sense to do it all of the time. Bad decision by Tomlin.

I'm not sure why he did it. I'm guessing he thought having a 4 point lead would be better than a 3 point lead with having your 3rd stringer in.
I guess he figured if the game be tied at the end it wouldn't give them the upper hand.

I'm not sure. That's the only reasoning I have why MT went for 2.
