    Just to throw it here:
Last season we were shorthanded on defense early, and a couple of calls brought back from retirement James Harrison. And, as we've seen, he still has some football ahead of him.

Now, we seem to be shorthanded at Safety, with a somehow growing force defense.
I know it's not going to happen, but: would you like to see Troy come back and help this team, as JH has been doing?

Troy has locked down a HOF career. He should practice his speech for Canton by the pool sippin some cool drink.

Troy is no JH, Harrison has kept himself in phenomenal shape, he's a freak of nature.

With no camp and 5 games into the season already, Troy is no where near football shape.

It's easier to maintain a powerful body than a quick/fast body.

James has lost some speed but is as strong as ever and just as smart..... That's why he still plays but will never be DPOY again.

Troy has lost too much quickness & speed. It's a death blow to safeties & CB.... His smarts kept him around an extra year or two but now..??.. He's done... Love Troy and can't wait till we see him in That Jacket!!!

I agree , no way can he keep up with the speed of the game. We need more speed back there not less.

I agree that Troy isn't the answer. But with the current injuries, I do wonder what do they do coming up? Do they rotate one of the CB's to Safety? Maybe put Cockrell at safety and put Boykin in his spot? Just speculating here. I've pretty much written off Cortez at this point, so I'm not counting on him for anything, even if he is cleared to play.

I think Gay has practiced at safety before, so Boykin could take his spot in the slot, but I don't think they want to move Gay... He's been playing well there.

I actually think C. Allen could play safety. He has the size for it.

Well time for Shamarko to shine.

Also Blake sort of plays like a safety, I wonder if he can make the switch? Although he is the worst tackler on the team.

Did I miss it, why is Mitchell down? I know Allen is but haven't heard a final diagnosis. Been away a couple of days so maybe I just missed this news.

We're in a pickle at the QB position also. Might as well call Antoine Randall El. He did throw a beautiful spiral in SB XL.

Didn't Jax try Blake at safety originally?

On a related note I saw a picture that Keisel posted recently on facebook that had Sammie Coates, Aaron Smith, Da' beard and I believe Heyward in it and I know that Smith had slimed down when he stopped playing but Coates looked bigger than him. Not quite as drastic as Faneca but still noticeable

I think Blake or Allen could both be free safeties if given the time necessary to learn the position. If Allen continues to fail at CB maybe you think about the position switch next season... The only problem is that wee need a strong safety, not a free safety. Unfortunately if Allen is out we will probably be rolling with Golden and Touchdown Thomas. Not exactly ideal, although I thought Golden did okay on Monday

I do not want to see Troy chasing a guy who caught the ball. It always ends with Troy not catching him. Troy did good for us. Stay retired Troy so we can still brag about you.

    Wait, Mitchell is out?
I thought he returned to the game and I didn't see him on the injury report yesterday.

I always thought Gay was primed to move to Safety.

On reflection, pretty much all of our DBs are essentially nickel CBs with some potential to play Safety. This may be a reason our secondary isn't so good.

Coates is hanging out with those guys? That's actually pretty awesome.

I think Blake would do very well at safety. Give him a chance to keep everything in front of him and use his athleticism and willingness to smack people, and I think that's his best spot.
