I don't want to sound like a broken record because I am sure I will get the standard responses like true fullbacks are a dying breed, the modern offense has no room for a fullback, and so on. However I have to bring it up I am seeing some impressive fullback play this weekend, from blocking to screens, to misdirection. I am loving watching the Texans run game and just abusing the Ravens and their vaunted run defense. As an advocate of power football it makes my weekend especially when I can't watch the Steelers after they were eliminated.

please see the 49er's game yesterday. PA screen to the FB that went for at least 15 yards. It is outright lie that FB's limit the passing game.

Can still pass the ball with a FB, Kentucky, and pretty effectively at that especially if it's a JL Williams-type. I think the PWP-special with Redman and Mendy in the backfield at the same time, for most of the game (as our base set) would open things up pretty substantially. And the lead-blocking by either of them couldn't be worse than what Johnson provides.

Packers have a FB,pass the ball pretty well.
Giants have a FB,pass the ball pretty well.
Pats signed a FB end of December for their playoff run. They pass the ball pretty well.

Obviously a true FB does not hurt your passing game.In fact it only helps.

True, maybe bigsteeler is right after all, we should get rid of all FB's.

And the next time a QB throws an INT, we should get rid of all QB's from the league too. :roflmao:

I would like to see a full back or h-back out of the draft (4th round and back) or a free agent. If you do have a fullback you need one that can actually block and catch passes out of the backfield. I would prefer a Cris Cooley type h-back. Johnson is too poor of a tight end to fill the h-back role and average at best blocker. Carey Davis was horrible at everything. Kreider was a good blocker especially for the Bus but too slow for this offense. I liked Kuhn. Johnson was a good idea but did not pan out.

Who needs a fullback or even a running game? Bubble screens are just as good :good:

I think we may already have our FB on our roster. Clay,he is 6ft 250. Why cant we turn him into a true FB? Not sure how good his blocking is,but we do have a whole off season for him to work on it.

I forgot about the bubble screens; no backs needed even the commentators say that is just like a run. I also hoped that they never threw the ball deep, ran an end around, or anything else to the week side out of that formation because there is no way the defense, even a smart guy like Suggs, knew the bubble screen was coming. It is also unstoppable and highly productive. Lastly, forget the run to pass ratio; lets have a bubble screen to pass ratio, and most importantly keep the genius that gets this high production from the most loaded skill player offense in the league: BA.

    Clay is a tail back.
Cut Mendy, Moore, and Johnson. Redman is the starter and the other tail backs can battle in camp (Dwyer, Clay, Batch, +...).
Get a GOOD fullback or h-back, along with a guard, middle linebacker, and d-lineman.

Size alone does not make a good FB. See DJ or C Davis. But most good offenses employ a true fullback.

Correct....size alone does not make a good full back. However a back who is 6ft 250 could be turned into a FB! A back who is 5-10 220... Not so much.
