    Is Tomlin for real:

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says the team will "work in (Michael Vick's) comfort zone," and "bring the game to him."
Some coaches would rather lose than change up their system for a backup, but Tomlin realizes Vick can't do the things Ben Roethlisberger does. "He is (comfortable in the offense), but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to ask him to execute our offense in the same manner as we’d ask Ben to," Tomlin said. Vick still offers some big-play upside, but is more erratic than ever. He's a turnover machine who's a shell of his former self athletically. The Steelers would be well served to ride Le'Veon Bell, and pick their spots with Vick. He'll be a low-end QB2 for Thursday's game against the Ravens. Sep 28 - 1:33 PM

What exactly is your problem with what Tomlin said?

Why wouldn't they change the game plan for Vick?.

While they'll modify the game plan some, they can't change the game plan drastically in such a short time.

He said Vick offers big play upside, the truth is he doesnt, as the aticle says; He's a turnover machine who's a shell of his former self athletically. So believe what you want to believe....

Not worried about the game plan.

Ball security is what I worry about with Vick...every day, all day.

And injury. Dude never sees that defender coming in for the outside angle to stick him.

Vick still has a very good arm and with the speed we have at WR the big play potential is there especially when Bryant gets back.

First of all, why should he share the real gameplan in a press conference?
Let's wait and see what they have worked so far, on Thursday.

I think some of you are way to negative on Vick. Vick played with the Jets last year, a team that had very few weapons and playmakers on the team. He has one of, if not the best RB and WR in the league. He has a good oline in front of him, reliable WRs outside of Brown and a TE that can be used as a dump off or down the field. Vick doesn't need to play like an all-pro, expect that is crazy. What we need from him is to play well, and I fully believe he can do that if given a gameplan that fits him. Which again, I have faith in this coaching staff to do.

I'm more worried about this defense (which has shown some life the last two weeks) than I am the offense. If they can't stop the pass, I don't think it matters if we have Ben or not. See game 1 for proof of that.

Well.....he kinda does. Vick still has a cannon arm and can throw it half a mile so he does have a bit of big play upside especially when Bryant returns. Turnover machine? Absolutely... one of the lowest rated QBs on any roster? Yep...

What we need to remember is he is still a vet, wont panick(hopefully) and still able to read defenses. He's behind a good OL with the best RB in the NFL and best WR...... Darn good slot WR and TE.......

Im predicting a victory!!!!! Come on Gilbert!!!! Protect the Blindside!!!!

Really with the way the Pats have been putting up points I'm kinda shocked we held them to 28 points in that one. The defense is looking better then last years defense IMO. Hopefully Shazier can get healthy and then I think by the end of the year we will have one of the better defenses in the league.

True.... Also remember its not just a backup QB.....new to this system... coming in but also a lefty. That adds to the changes. He'll role left naturally meaning the OL will have to pass protect differently, Gilbert is now Blindside protector and against Dumervil!!! ( this scares me a bit ) The WR will have to adjust to not only a left handed spin but also timing and rte dynamics. RB's now have to that the ball on the opposite side of the QB than they're used to. Short week doesnt help.

    Still predicting a victory!!!!

    Go Steelers!!!

I actually agree with you about this D becoming a force by December-January, but right now, it's not there and this secondary is VERY prone to mistakes that often lead to big plays.

From Dulac Steelers chat this afternoon.

Ellie Mae: No one really knows what to expect with Vick running the Steelers offense. Unlike the QBs who have had to step in for Ben in the past games against Baltimore, Vick has a pretty unique skill set. In the absence of Ben, doesn't having to prepare for a Vick-led offense create challenges to Baltimore's defensive game plan and preparation on a short week (as opposed to Maddox, Batch, Leftwich, and Dixon)?

Gerry Dulac: There's no question. Mike Vick is one of those rare athletes that require defensive coordinators to spend extra time preparing for, even at 35. Believe me, he can still run and -- wow -- can he still throw!

Assuming your cut and paste job is correct then no Tomlin didn't say that. What Tomlin said is in quotation marks, the rest is from the writer of the article. Reading, it's fundamental.

If that's the same "good ol" that played last week, Vick doesn't have a chance!

Vick can still run. That's where most of his injuries happen. Vick can still throw. Erratic. Pick machine. Reading Defenses is not his strong point.
That being said, hopefully they lean heavily on the bread and butter and structure a plan so he doesn't lose the game.
They need him to manage the position until Ben gets back. To much rope will spell disaster. Just my 2 cents...

Ok not to even address the Vick situation or to be a Debbie Downer but what gives anyone on the board any inclination that under the current coaching regime they know anything what so ever about game planning for their own strengths and the opponents weaknesses let alone tailoring even 15 to 20 scripted plays for a QB? I mean they do what they do as idiotic as it sounds. They change very little in the way of strategy so I don't think you will see much change at all.

I would say when Ben is in our offense is completely built around our strength. The defense is coming around and is built around our strength as well. Our front 7 are pretty stout.

Well he definitely still has the arm and I'm pretty sure he has the legs...didn't he dust one of the Eagles RBs a couple years back? The question is does he have what it takes upstairs....I would definitely be telling him to run if nothing is there I think that could cause Bmore fits. What I don't want to see is him standing back there holding the ball or else it's gonna be a long night.

but that is different than game planning around those and playing to those advantages. How many times did they tailor the game plan to Batch? to Lefty? how did they change when Bell was hurt? How many times did we scream when they went into a Superbowl against the worst run defense to make it to a SB and the game plan was to throw? Even after the first pick, they still tried it again and it wasn't until they attacked on the ground that things started to click. I can only remember twice where they changed what it is they do and had it work and one of those was the NE game. I mean they talk about it but I don't think under DL, BA, Haley or Butler I have seen them go after a team and design a plan to attack the weaknesses.

they should write a simple 5 or 5plays playbook and let him throw only with a couple of options and if nothing is there run or throw it away . they sure can let him to scan all the field he will get smashed

It's not necessarily a pick problem for Vick. Even when he's been bad he's still had a positive TD/INT ratio. He's been positive in that area in every single season after his rookie season. He's also never thrown more than 14 picks in any single season in his career (granted he generally only threw 360-400 passes a year)... His problem is fumbling both inside and outside the pocket (he's had 40 in essentially 11 years).

If we can get the ball out of his hands quickly and keep defenders out of his face, I think we will have a really good chance to win the game.
