Dupree already has more upside then Jones. Jones at this point is just average but not terrible. He needs to get off the blocks when pass rushing, constantly over pursuing out of the play.

I seen alot of hustle from him yesterday and at least he wasn't notice negatively. If we can keep Jason Worilds around pass his expiration date, JJ got a few more years.

I thought James Harrison was invisible yesterday and he's no slouch!

Lets let the season play out, give the guy a chance
then at the end of the season his play isn't up to the Steelers standards
then it will be talked about. There are certain expectations for a first round draft choice and rightfully so.

I liked jj in pass coverage against the 49ers,... as a pass rusher, he's still a work in progress, which is a bit concerning, since that is his primary function

Jones is not a Power guy he is not a speed guy he is not a technique guy , he is a combo guy .He is not great in any area and can not dominate without more time . The key to him is being versatile at the POA and it's kind of like a War of Attrition , he will play just fine after the back end gets better .

He simply needs another second and when that happens he will become very productive . If he played for a Team like the Jets he would have 4 sacks already this season .

I watch his tape very close and he is beginning to win the battle most of the time when the ball comes out quick that gives me hope ....

He is starting to look and play like a power guy. I really wish they would flip his and Harrison's snap counts.

They gave up 335 yards passing, thats way too many yards to give up by this defense, thats a haunting statistic considering some of the high power offenses they will face in future games, in fact if they give up 335 yards to Foles Sunday we will lose this game........

We will give that up every week. Have to keep them out of the end zone as much as possible . As weird as it is we are now the out score them Steelers .

So um is everyone discounting the 3 points San Fran had to begin the 4th quarter? Yea we gave up some yards and TRASH points at the end. The game was already out of hand. If this team plays offense and defense the way it did the first 3 quarters then it doesn't matter how many yards we give up.

Dulac said in his chat today that if you don't think Jones is playing well then you aren't watching him. He said yeah he hasn't got the sacks yet but was up against two pro bowl LTs and the sacks will come.

Most teams give up yardage during garbage time. I'm not at all worried about the 4th quarter stats of the 49ers game.

Yeah the 9ers had under 100 yards passing entering halftime. The game was over by that point and the Steelers went to a softer coverage to try and keep the big plays down.

He didn't go up against two pro bowl LT's and I wouldn't exactly label Dulac as a film guy. That said, yeah, he's doing OK.

Nonetheless, JJ bullied him for much of the game.

I'm going to go with Glenn on this one. For some of you it is never going to matter what Jarvis Jones does you have already made up your minds. You see 1st round draft pick and equate that to a certain type of player in your minds and if the player doesn't fit that image then nothing they do will be good enough. He could have 3 sacks in a game and people will want a strip sack and call him a bust. Here is what I see when he is rushing the passer, he has been overpowering his man, getting off the block and because of it is being held just as much as Harrison does with that arm bar, choke hold type tackle. Otherwise he would be all over the QB. I think you will continue to see multiple guys on this defense getting some great QB pressures as they begin to work as a unit. Heck just look at TTF's avatar gif the reason Tuitt gets single coverage is they had to choose between a dbl team on Tuitt and letting Dupree come in clean or man up and Tuitt beat his guy, going to happen more and more.

I hate to disagree, but I strongly disagree. Some people just can't handle any kind of criticism or analytical discussion on a message board that isn't 'rah rah, everyone's great'. He was a first round pick and this is his third season. People expect production from first round picks and he's hardly produced. I think if he had 3 sacks in a game (as many as he's had in his career) people would say he's the GOAT. The tide of opinion turns quickly. Sure he had a good game week one, but he definitely wasn't being held as much as Harrison against SF. I'm not in the 'bust' bandwagon, as I'm sure he'll produce this year and have a good season, but it's not like fans' concerns aren't warranted.

Tuitt is a beast and overpowered and out-maneuvered his man on that play. They covered their assignments and he got beat. It will happen a lot.

Well you know I'm never one to shy away from that, and I called Jarvis out in the NE game day thread because I wanted to see him earn that number 95. That being said he has showed that he has progressed and we will never know what might have been last year. I just don't get hung up on the whole draft status part of it. I don't care if its first round or seventh if they can play. I think concern maybe warranted but should also be tempered by what is happening as well. I am much happier with an all around player than just a rush the passer and not good beyond so to me the sacks will come, fundamentals are sound, learning some techniques.

I personally have no problem with the criticism. He's earned some of it.
My issues lie less with the criticism and more with some fans repeating the same criticisms every chance they can.

I have plenty of criticisms of the team and I've stated them here then move on.

Just go to Steelers.com and sign up for Steelers Nation Unite and follow the directions.
You'll have to check in on Gameday and the rest just comes down to being lucky and getting picked for it.

That's basically the exact thing Worilds was accused of complaining about, was it not? Saying that he wasn't getting to the qb as much as he would like because they were dropping him in to coverage?
