Do you have a link? Id just like to read up on it. Good that they could go but secondary really needs Boykin to step in and play well.

I hope they bring up D. Grant somehow. Let's see how he does, his tackling looked good in the preseason and we may need that if San Fran wants to emphasize the run.

I'm guessing you wont see Grant until at least mid season, I dont think there is anyway they cut him if he was close to ready.

Looks like Cockrell would be the guy. To be honest, I see these rookie CB's playing on other teams and I'm thinking "why not Grant? What's wrong with him/the system?" Are the coaches waiting for him to be perfect before throwing him out there? We all know our current group is average on a great day, so why not let the guy learn by OJT? Either our coaches are really stubborn or he's really bad right now.

Would certainly be nice if Shazier can still healthy this year.

i like cockrell. i liked him before the draft last year as a guy we could have gone after. i agree about grant too. trial under fire. can they be much worse then what we are putting on the field now? possibly but i doubt it. one thing about cockrell is he's smart. academic all-american at duke.

boykin, gay, grant, cockrell seem like they could be a good mix in my book. i think tez could have a place but for that type of money, he'd have to take a pay cut. add blake and golson next year and we might not be that far off. signing boykin and gay would be beneficial i believe. blake will have to pick up his game. i could see one or two of these guys making a move to FS. keep mitchell as a SS thumper which he is good at. we will see but i'd hope they do something within the next few weeks. mix it up and mix them in. why not?

Cortez Allen is questionable; Boykin, Shazier, Mitchell, Will Allen, Spence and Landry Jones are all probable

Just to be clear - is this an injury report or a talent appraisal?

I agree with most posters on here, why not give Dorian Grant / Boydkin
a try can't be much worse than what we trotted out their last Thursday.
How about trying people at other positions (Mitchell). Other teams are playing rookies why not us? It would be different if our supposed starters
were HOF's, there not. Lets try some other people, is there competition
in practice at these question mark positions? Do these players not impress their coaches in practice?

Dupree played, so we do have a rookie on the field. My guess is if Golson wasn't injured he too might be playing. Some of the other rookies may need some more time to learn the system, like Coates, James, and Grant.

I wonder if the towel or water boy are free Sunday? We could see how they hold up on the corners!

we have players in their 3rd, 4th and 5th years that we are saying they need some time. what? are you kidding? why not try the towel boy, he's probably in his 5th or 6th year and probably more field ready than what we have. that's coaching if these guys are still confused. it's also poor player management if that all you have ready to play. no use sugar coating it.

I have asked myself the same question. How can all these other teams get their rookies ready and we seem to have trouble getting our rookies to play. Shane Ray with Denver (with a new coord. even) is playing significantly and the same with Marcus Peters, Vic Beasley in Atl (new D coord) just to name a few. Dupree is getting some PT which is good. They are letting him learn on the fly, why the same treatment seemingly isn't given to the DBs is the question.

I'm not sure if the finger should be pointed at coaching (I'm thinking not), or towards the staff's reluctance to just play them. Doran Grant made the 53 roster initially. Then he was waived to make room for Lyons, Cockrell, or Legursky or Todman. I don't remember the sequence of transactions. Either way, it looks like they were willing to give him a shot. I hope they carry thru with that in the near future. After the Bell suspension, we have D. Will and Todman, I would think about putting Archer down and giving Grant a shot if the secondary still looks in shambles.

As for Boykin, he is a veteran. Veterans move teams all the time and contribute from the first game on. Not sure why he did not play on defense. It's like an overbearing parent deciding to take off the training wheels. Should I or shouldn't I? They're not doing anything to help Boykin's confidence that's for sure.
