I wonder if this will have any bearing on whether or not he returns next year. If he is to return, I would make it contingent on him staying in town and re-habbing, staying in shape with the orgnanization. The Steelers do not need to wonder what they're going to have when he reports to camp. They should be able to know long before camp opens what Hampton they will see.

I just cant see him playing next year....I love Casey but he is too big and slow - and basically was a non-factor.

On one hand Steelers desperately need to unload his salary because of the cap, but on the other hand we don't have the future star on our team just yet....

Yeah.....I was hoping we would draft a NT pretty high up in the draft. There are just SO many needs - I dont know if nose tackle is a priority but it needs to be.

I think we can replace him for much cheaper than what he will make/want

Agreed on all of this. I was just wondering whether or not the fact that he will not have surgery will make a difference. I'm not sure who the guy will be to eat up blockers and I wouldn't be surprised to see him return, but I agree that he's probably someone that can/will be replaced without much fall-off.

I believe it doesn't matter if Casey comes back or not. They will draft his replacement regardless.

But what we need to keep in mind is that we build our team to win the division first. I know everyone is getting overwhelmed with the Brees, Rogers, and Brady but you have to look in our division first. We don't have those type of offenses. We have basic running teams. Ray Rice, Hillis and Benson. Plus factor in the offensive lines on these teams. Browns, Ravens and Bengals have far better offensive lines then we do. There front 7 if not better is slowly catching up with ours.

That being said we need a body like Hampton. We need better offensive lineman. Because those teams like to run the ball.

I think our Run D suffers as much from a slower Farrior as it does from an ineffective Hampton, but that may just be me.

Casey has been great for the Steelers over the years but it is time to move on.

ziggy hood, mclendon, heward were very dissapointing in the Denver game. It looked like they were standing still in their pass rush, no push at all. I'm not sure playing time is going to help them in their pass rush. They either got it or they don't.

34 defensive linemen are not supposed to rush the passer. Its simply not their job. If they can get pressure...bonus. But their job is to collectively tie up at least 4 O linemen, preferably 5 so that the LBs can do their job.

but they are not just supposed to stand still. i thought several times, they blew the play dead beacause they were tied up so long. they are also supposed to collapse the pocket around the qb and yes their job is to help get sacks also. they did none of that. they were so far from the qb the worst qb in the league had more than enough time to eat us up. that sir is not their job.

he hurt us early in the year, when they would cut him down causing a big pile up and stopping our lb'ers and other d linemen from getting across the formation to make tackles. he is nowhere near what he was and hasen't been for several years.

Nose tackles that destroy the pocket regardless of blocking scheme don't exist outside of fantasy land. What you want (and can get) is a nose that will collapse the pocket if single blocked. Nose tackles exist to eat two blockers so someone else gets a chance at the QB.
