I had this article pop up in a google feed. Very interesting what they are looking at doing. I have to think replay is going to become almost a thing of the past if they start having sensors through the field and RFID chips in pads and maybe the ball itself that would make crossing the goalline or getting a first down easy to tell. I was surprised on sunday as well that they huge replay station with its draped cover is being replaced by an Ipad and headphones. What change will we see in just the next few years.

Next thing to go will be the players themselves - everything will be digitized and robotic. Should really help with the price of season tickets and burgers/beers at games.

This is pretty cool, but man I wish the entire spin wasn't on replays for xbox one. There's a lot of cool data that can be pulled from these.

It's probably on the horizon, though, beers will still increase in price.

I wouldn't be surprised if NFL football is just a virtual simulation someday.

Madden will go from a simulation of the game to the game itself.

Looks like a Windows 10 application might produce some good stats if you've gotten it by then.

Got the upgrade on my laptop and I must say I like it way better than 8.

Reminds me of when they put the chips in hockey pucks :)

Will be interesting to see how the analysts use it when they're marking up the replay screens.

They won't use replay screens - they'll send out a video message for all viewers to watch on their phones. This will free up time for the TV to show former professionals sat around sniggering about some in-joke that nobody really understands.

As a child of the 80s, it disappoints me that with all these advances in technology, we still don't have flying cars and skateboards as an everyday thing. I feel utterly lied to about what the future was going to be.

I think your right TTF. I also expect someday that fans will call in plays. That would be more than cool

Like a massive "ask the audience". Red for run, blue for pass.

Although for some reason this reminds me of that bit in The Running Man, when the old woman is choosing which person she wants to kill Arnie, and she can't decide, so they let her have both. You have to watch out for that sort of thing when asking the audience. Look at the consequences for Buzz-Saw.

Pretty cool but wish it was offered over multiple platforms. I would think that should help with the ball crossing the goal line etc. Similar to the goal in soccer etc. Are the cameras in the pylons being used during the regular season? I thought that was a pretty cool feature.

Weren't some teams getting in trouble for using drones this summer? I think there's a lot of value in using drones above practice fields. The Steelers can't in training camp because of their proximity to an airfield.

I think that we'll never really have a perfect solution as far as the yard markers and goal line goes. But, I think there should be a way to embed chips into a players shoes and make the sidelines active, so to speak. No more worrying about if a player stepped out of bounds. You'd know instantly, and when he did, so you the officials could concentrate on if the player had the ball or not.

Depends where you live - I live in So Cal and cars fly past me all the time on the freeways - especially in construction zones and "dangerous curve ahead" areas - and I generally average 75-80 mph. Seems to be the white Honda Accord brigade most often. I try to snap photos of their plates on my Dick Tracy Two-Way Wrist Radio....errrr my I-Watch.

YES KINDA LIKE THAT.. More like a live version of Madden. A certain amount of plays are listed and based on the votes the play with the most votes is chosen.. Very cool

I'm sure the virtual simulation exercises will evolve into the teams using them to evaluate potential draft picks.

I was shocked three years ago to see the Bengals on Hard Knocks using Ipads for playbooks and I believe we discussed how things were changing on the sidelines with how they were looking at snapshots of plays. Now they have ipads on the sidelines and making use of tech that I wouldn't have thought of being in the game 10 years ago. I will say the RFID tags would work better in football than in hockey because the ball has to only break the plane of the goaline where in hockey the entire puck must cross the line. I would think the upgrades in broadcasting the game will make the yard sticks almost obsolete.

You'd see Belichick buy all his players 10 tablets and the offense would be there clicking away on plays while the D was on the field. Of course he wouldn't buy Tommy one... he'd just destroy it.

You could instantly know the pressure in the ball...
