With all this BA love/hate stuff going on I am just curious to hear some of your thoughts on what you think the identity of this team is on offense . Are we a passing team? Are we a running team? Do we strive to be balanced? I would also like to know if you feel having an identity is important? What are the reasons why we don't have one?

This offense could be the best in the league if used correctly. Its hard ti argue arains success winning wise but i think that has more to do with our talent then anything. This offense could line up and run whatever they wanted at anytime. You want to take away the run we could kill you with the pass and take that away we could run. Now running has a lot to fo with the oline. Cowher never had a bad oline but we were a run first team. If arains wants to do this he must find the perfect mix of run/pass blockers and right now its a mess and were not good at anything. Next i believe we will have a solid oline.

    Just read this on Steelers.com:http://www.steelers.com/news/articl...e-a-goal/e5044646-f7e0-4aaa-8b11-6b5236aaab76

My gosh, the players are beating themselves up. And yes, there were times they failed to execute. But in order to improve, they must :FBAI!:

So, until the Steelers do this, I will be buying no more Steelers merchandise nor asking for it for my birthday or Christmas. I can't go so far as to boycott watching the games...that would just drive me insane.

Yes going to 2 to superbowls in 4 years is unacceptable. Boycott everything, Bruce Arians is the reason our economy is in shambles........

With BA as the OC we are a pass team...period. I am okay with that, and I don't like Arians at all. You see that has NOTHING to do with the fact that we are pass first. The reality is in the new NFL, most teams are pass first. Denver and San Fran are the only 2 I can come up with who aren't.

My problem with BA is that every team in the NFL knows that not only are we a pass oriented offense, we wouldn't run the ball at all if you would let us pass the entire game. There is no purpose to our running. We don't take advantage of our RBs in the passing game. We don't use play action. We don't use them as a receiver in the route. Unless it is the bubble screen, we don't throw the ball 5-6 yards and hope for a big gain, but taking what they give us. We don't use Wallace on a button hook or any kind of come back route. In addition, we basically have 2 running plays...run right behind a pulling LG, and run left behind a pulling RG. During the Denver game, Simms actually says, "when I see the Steelers in this set, I know it's going to be a bubble screen." Wow! That is scary. Find something else to run out of that formation. Put Brown over there with Wallace and let Wallace do a crossing pattern or go deep, faking the pass to Brown. Do something to make the defense think that isn't what we are going to do. It is sad that BA cannot take advantage of our skill guys. Do we have ANY plays in our playbook which are designed roll outs for Ben? Here is one of the better passers on the run in the NFL, a Oline which occasionally gets tee'd off on, but we don't ever move the pocket?

We got to those SBs and won one of them because of the players, and in spite of Arians' horrific play calling. If I can sit on the couch and say, "Look, here's what we're going to do now," you can bet the coaches on the other sideline know it, too. Did you even read the article I posted? Everyone agrees...we have TONS of talent. So why do we have an anemic offense? Because of the guy calling the plays, that's why.

I agree with much of what you say, but I think part of the issue is the guy taking the snaps, and throwing the ball, on the field.

Poor execution certainly took its toll this year. I think part of that is due to injuries. And Ben will continue to be Ben with BA at the helm. Onward (and hopefully) upward next year. :yeehaw:

The identity of the offense should be a "?" -- clueless.

I could care less about the total offense stat (12th). The total scoring stat means so much more (tied for 21st with Tennessee). Here are the teams that we score more than: Seattle, Arizona, Denver, Washington, TB, Indy, Jax, KC, and St louis. All other teams in the league score more than the Steelers. So the Steelers are in the company of those stellar offensive teams.

I noted the "sky's the limit" quote again in that article again.

I would call Houston a run first team too. The NYG run a good bit as well. Is Baltimore considered run first?

Once everyone on the offense gets on the same page, things will be much better. Curing the red zone curse they seem to be plagued with would change that scoring rank, considerably.

And I consider Balt run-first. Without Ray Rice, they are nothing.

So would NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER so much :frustrated: Ben was a turnover machine this year starting right of the gate with the 1st loss in Baltimore.

Here are the 8 NFL teams that run the highest % of the time:
    1) Den 2) Hou 3) SF 4) JAx 5) KC 6) Mia 7) Chi 8) Oak

Look at the list and what do you see? Team with Bad QB's, Rookie QB's or teams where the Best QB missed a lot of time to injury. And yes, teams with good RBs too.

Here are the 8 NFL teams the pass the highest % of the time:

    1)Det 2) TB 3) TN 4) NO 5) Wash 6) Az 7) Buf 8) GB

These teams were mostly behind alot or have great QB's, so-so or worse running games.

The Steelers ran 42.8% of the time (16th in the NFL, exactly in the middle) Balt ran 44.3% of the time (12th), If the Steeles ran instead of passed one time in each game this seaons they'd match Balt run %.

Only 3 teams ran more than 50% of the time. Den -53.7%, Hou- 52.2% SF- 50.2%

Two words: tied for 21st in scoring offense. Yes I know that was six words but it wouldn't have had the same effect. This offense, led by you know who, is a bunch of under achievers who are capable of scoring 30+ points per game, but manage barely 20. So in answer to your original question, no - they have no identity.

Now that I have read some of the responses I just want to give my take on it. I can't stress enough how important I think it is to have an identity. How are you supposed to have a team philosophy or chemistry without an identity? How can you execute as a team without everyone being on the same page as to what it is your trying to accomplish? How do you go into a draft not knowing what type of players are needed to fit your system? All of the top teams right now have a system(identity) that defines them. They draft and a acquire player through FA to fit their style and needs. We seem to do this on defense but on offense I'm not so sure. We have the talent on offense especially in the young Wr corp to have a quick- passing style attack yet we don't use them in this manner. We have capable running backs that other teams would have to fear, if they were used properly. We have a great TE in place and a very talented up and comer that can be used as effective weapons, yet they don't seem to get called on enough. OK, OK ,the OL I know they can't protect Ben. Then why is it that we design a deep passing attack that stresses that particular weakness? We have shown that we do possess the ability to utilize the short-quick-passing style and with great success ex.(N.E Tenn. Cincy.) why did we go away from that? Can anyone answer that for me? So are we a passing team? No not really. Are we a running team? Not exactly. Balanced? Lol. So I guess the answer is ,none of the above. This entire offense is based solely on Bens improv. skills and when the old rabbit out of my *ss tricks don't work we really struggle. It seems to me every year we hear...this is gonna be the year...the sky is the limit...once we all get on the same page ...yet at the end of the season we are always searching for answers. Why do we still have no identity? Why is there no consistency? Why do we continue to struggle in the red-zone?... The questions may change but the answer remains the same. (D.R.B.A.I.)

Some kind of identity is important for sure. Fast, grinding, smashmouth, finess, ball control, overall solid, etc... Pick your poision. I'll take an just as long as it's earned and solid.

We used to have one. This year not so much and with this huge turnover we are expecting with vets, im not sure what's going to happen.
