    $8,056,668 DT Hampton, Casey ($5,890,000)
    $4,610,000 WR Ward, Hines ($3,390,000)
    $3,600,000 LB Foote, Larry ($3,000,000)
    $3,427,500 RB Mendenhall, Rashard ($2,325,000)
    $2,984,191 DE Smith, Aaron ($2,109,191)
    $2,666,668 CB McFadden, Bryant ($2,500,000

    Whats Dead Money?

We save $16mil by getting rid of Big snack, foote, mendy, smith and mcfadden. Mcfadden is a waste.

    My cuts:

    Hampton
    Kemo
    Farrior
    Foote
    A. Smith
    J. Scott
    BMac
    W. Allen
    Battle

That saves 22M in Cap space. Then ask Ward to take a paycut (which he has already said he is willing to do) and stay as a backup/mentor to the young guys.

This scenario would require a high draft pick at ILB (unless the coaches have seen something in Sylvester that I haven't) as well as NT (although McClendon did OK when he played this year). Of Course OL still has to be a priority too - how many picks do we have this year?

We need to cut more than $22m. Gay will need to be released or resigned. if resigned thats another hit plus you gotta sign rookies and replacements for some positions.

Anyway i cant believe we pay Foote $3m and Mcfadden $2.5m.

Honestly we could see harrison gone. Im sure his antics are wearing thin on the roomeys and this defense was the same without him.i say look to trade him he has back issues and i dont think he has more then a year or two left in him.

After reading some articles and looking at the Steelers situation, here is how i have it for next year.

    Initial Cuts/Retires/Restructures

    -Hines restructures for 1 Mill

    -Cut/Retire Kemo (3.5),Farrior(3), Foote (3), Battle (1)
    Allen (1.2), B Mac (2.5), Scott (2.2), Shuisham (1.6), Aaron Smith (2)

Note (#) is in money that we will save.

*Clears 23 Mill off cap, takes cap from 142 Mill to 119 Mill

    New Contracts/Restricted FA

Restricted FA- 1.25 mill- D. Johnson, K. Lewis, R. Foster, 600k- Redman, Mcclendon

Resign- Mundy (1), Legursky (1), Wallace (4.3), Lefty or Batch (825k)

Note (#) is in Millions that we will add.

*Adds 12.375 Mill and Takes Cap to 131.375 mill.

    Other Moves

    -Roethlisberger extension saves 9.2 Mill
    -Harrison restructure saves 1.5 Mill

    * Takes 10.7 Mill off and puts Cap at 120.675 Mill
    * Estimated 2012 NFL Salary Cap 128 Mill

    Other possible Cuts

    -Hampton (5), Clark (3), Colon (4.5), Kesiel (3)

-I could see Hampton or Keisel being the first to go of this group. Honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if Casey retired after tearing his ACL.

    So now the real questions

will we actually do this? Changes are needed. By staying the same we will breakdown again and find ourselves at best limping into the playoffs.

Looks like we actually will have some money and can clear up more if needed, so Is this the year we make some moves in Free Agency? I hope so. I love the Steelers approach in building through the draft and think we do a great job of it, but if we added a quality free agent or two that fit the Steelers mold, we cold be in serious contention for another title. Here are some we could look at...

-Dan Conner-LB- Carolina-Panthers have a bunch of LB's and he will be looking to start
-Carlos Rodgers-CB-San Francisco-Thought we would have gone after him last year. Prob would have if we didnt sign Ike. Recieved some consideration for All-Pro
-Carl Nicks-OG-New Orleans- Saints just committed a lot of money into the o line and prob can't resign him-Pro bowler
-Demitrius Bell-OT- Buffalo- Don't know if Buffalo can pay him or not

Where do we go in the draft? I say Corner, Safety, Oline, ILB in Best position available. Hopefully we can get someone capable of starting and upgrading a position. I would love the Corner from Alabama Kirpatrick.

    What does everyone think?

I would keep Foote over Farrior because he is younger and I'm not ready to trust Sylvester with the reins yet. Now, if he shows something in training camp then I would be comfortable with letting Foote walk.

And who will generate pressure? You need both of those bookends at outside linebacker. Carter haven't showed be enough and Worilds didn't do a lot either this year. He just ran up the field. We get no pressure from our dlineman and letting one of our premier pass rushers walk is not good.

Worilds will be in his third year and will have a healthy woodley with him. Harrison has a huge target on him and i could see goodell trying to suspend him 8 games next time. I just dont know i do love his style of play and cooke changed his ways so maybe harrison does also. Also his back worries me back problems dont just go away.

I'm not sure if he is a big contract guy and i know we wouldn't pay him big money, but i wouldn't worry about that. We aren't the Redskins. Regardless he would be a huge upgrade to what we have. I'd rather go oline or LB in FA and spend a draft pick on a good corner. I really like Kirkpatrick from Alabama.
