Before anyone condemns me I am not asking to get rid of Rothlesberger. I'm just curious if we had, say, a stafford style qb who releases the ball very quickly if we would see a improvement in our offence. When you look at the talent we have at wr and te even our rbs it's seems to me that we could score as well as Green bay or New Orleans Now don't tell me they would be killed behind our oline because even they could give you 3 seconds to throw the ball just throwing this out there for thoughts

As long as BA is still the OC, it doesn't matter who the qb is.

Lets say the Colts take Andrew Luck and then trade Big Ben straight up for Peyton Manning. Colts do this to groom Andrew for a year or two under Ben and dump Peytons 28 million salary. Ben then gets shipped off after that. Steelers insert Manning under Arians. Peyton starts for the Steelers.

Any takers? Is this too far fetched.

PS. I am one of Ben's Biggest fans.

With our oline Peyton would not last a game. Even with his quick release. He would also laugh at Arians playbook.

We do not have any receivers that can get open that quick, do we......................and when they do they are always short of the first down mark.

I think the opposite is true, manning would make our line look good and Arians would be excited that he has a QB that actually does the play rather than extend it.

The first thing Peyton Manning would do is fire Bruce Ariens and re-write the playbook. Yes, that's right, I said Manning would fire Bruce Ariens, because somebody has to.

But this is ridiculously far fetched. Were not trading Ben and I don't see Indy trading Peyton. Besides, Ben isn't a mentor nor a role model. the guy is a jerk with a huge ego. He wouldn't be good for the career for Luck.

If our WR's are short of the first down marker, that's because the play was designed that way. But I've noticed the opposite, all of our WR's are 30 yards down field on every play, which is half the reason Ben gets sacked so often, because our plays that are designed by Juicy Brucie take 13 seconds to develop.

i for one am a pittsburgh steeler fan,and not a specific player fan. none of them are bigger then the team. i don't think ben has a worry in the world about one of the 3 we have behind him pushing him to try to improve his watch me attitude. i'd love for us to draft a guy that may actually push ben to improve his game and a coach with enough balls to bench him when he doesn't get with the program. chuck noll did it with bradshaw and it seemed to get his attention. more then a few times i might add.

Thats exactly what I am going to tell you. People seriously underestimate the importance of a good line and the difference it makes. Also, am I the only one who notices that Ben often doesn't even get 3 seconds? How many times have we seen the pocket collapse immediately after the ball is snapped. To answer your question, no, I wouldn't do it.

You're right, at times Ben doesn't even get 3 seconds, but other QB's don't always get 3 seconds either. What they do is check down, toss it to the TE for a 5 yard gain, or throw it away. This in turn defeats the pass rush as they don't get the sack. When a pass rush consistently doesn't result in a sack, it tires the defence out. When a pass rush does result in a sack, it motivates them and they go even harder the next few plays. The fact is, every time Ben takes a sack, it makes the pass rush even more ferocious as the game goes on. That's why so many times Ben doesn't get touched early in games, but as the game progresses, he starts getting hit more and more.

Momentum is a huge thing in football. If you don't give the defence any momentum early in the game, it will be harder for them to get to you later.

A healthy Peyton Manning would have this offence in the top 10 for sure, and possibly top 10. Ben will be lucky to break top 15. At this point, I'm hoping the Steelers seriously consider drafting another QB in the middle rounds and hope for a bit of a hidden treasure. Worst case scenario he'll replace Batch as the backup

Its the same old **** with Ben. I wonder if he really works at his trade, in other words, Study film, work out etc. In that game against Denver he looked like he weighed 300 lbs. Is he lazy? Wonder how bad he wants to succeed? Big checks coming in no matter how he plays. Appears to be lazy maybe, I don't know. Outside of steeler nation, he is viewed as a sex pervert. You'd think he'd want to win as much as he can for his legacy. No sense of urgency. Someone mentioned about the window closing on this team. I think it closed.

He now knows that he'll never be greater than, or even as good as Bradshaw, since he lost a superbowl and Terry never did. I think that's what used to motivate him and now it's gone and he's just not as into it.

Questioning weather Ben wants to succeed or not makes me wonder if you even follow Steeler football. He talks about wanting to have more championships then TB and the most of everyone for that matter, he talks about this alot. Also, why the heck would he step foot on a field with some of the injuries he has sustained if he didn't have the heart and desire to win?

Who cares what idiots outside of Steeler Nation think, anyone with even an ounce of brain matter can tell Ben has turned the corner on his troubles.

I agree with you. A QB with a different style, reading routes and defenses better, making a quick decision, and taking what the defense gives, would open up the offense.

Like you, I respect Ben, but there are often open receivers that he's not hitting since early in the 2011 season. And they call it out on Steelers.com/Chalk Talk, Talking Steelers Football, and Bob Labriola's articles, all the time... And you are right... the O-Line is giving 3-5 seconds which should be plenty of time... They don't run block well, though.

    Hines Ward
    Mike Wallace
    Antonio Brown
    Emmanuel Sanders
    Jericho Cotchery

They can all get open quickly and short of the first down mark only matters on 3rd down. If they're getting a 6-7 yard pass starting on 1st down then it's all good. 15-20 yard passes are not a necessity on every pass attempt. Indeed, such an approach would be detrimental.

Agreed although redman had a decent game things may pick up if they expected a quick pass
