He's on the backside of his career but I don't think that the "window is closing."

IMO that would imply only 2 or 3 years left. I think he's got 5 or 6.

    Repost this in 2018.

I totally agree. There's no reason to believe Ben is going to slow down at age 35. A lot of higher profile QB's have lasted to late 30's early 40's. Look at Manning, Brady, Brees, Favre, Warner etc. As long as he still has his arm strength, health, and the desire to win, Ben can play QB in the NFL... It's not like he's Russell Wilson and relies heavily on his legs.

Personally I think he is playing his best football right now, and that should continue for the next 5-6 years barring unforeseen circumstances.

He is 33. He has another 4-5 years, after that I think he will be done.
Ben took a hell of a lot sacks for a long time (2006-2013), a lot more than Manning or Brady have.
He is better protected now, but your body can't take hits at 35 that it will at 25. I can't see Ben playing till he is 40.
    Enjoy the ride my friend.

It's opening up this year. If certain players progress as hoped, it could look more like an open garage door than a window in 2016 and 2017.

What I meant seeing how some of our stars are developing(tuitt, bryant) and with AB's contract, it will be hard to retain everyone. But im sure the front office knows whats up. Hope boykin works out too so we can keep him. allens contract though...

This is turning into a very comical concept. People talk about windows closing all the time, but what if we considered how "the window is opening". I only say this because it seems like this board has been saying the "window is closing" ever since Tomlin first got the job trying to win a SB with BC's players, lol. I agree with anyone who has posted that Ben's window is wide open, but we all also can't deny that it will only continue closing over the next 5-7 years.

So, to put a twist on it, how "open is the window" this year? The entire defense, including multiple positional options, is likely at the heart of determining how open this window really is.

That being said, we are the Steelers, and therefore, we demand and expect a window to exist. Personally, I think this window goes as the defense goes. If they exceed expectations, then we will find ourselves hosting in the playoffs. If they underperform, we find ourselves fighting for a wild card spot.

I guess my point is that this proverbial window ultimately has very little to do with Ben. And if it's Grad, the window gets very small... and if it's ... i shudder to type... Jones, there is no window to speak of.

    Go DEFENSE!

If Big Ben were to go down, and Landry Jones were to win us a Superbowl, would you fear the world ending soon?

This is a game of probabilities, not possibilities. So, to answer your question bluntly, yes.

At a time when Landry should be showing some improvement as a 3rd year guy, here's a quote from Steelers.com. Just food for thought:

QB Landry Jones[IMG]’ two-minute series included a dropped interception by LB James Harrison[IMG], a sack by LB Bud Dupree[IMG] and an interception by CB B.W. Webb[IMG].

Ben has some time left albeit he's not as spry a 33 yr old as he should to be thanks to the motorcycle wreck and the front offices O line neglect for a few years. I believe the D is on the uptick and barring serious injuries will be in the mix for a while. My only concern is the superstar diva mentality rearing its ugly head with some of the youngsters on both sides... That crap can derail a unit real quick. We shall see, in the meantime none of us are going anywhere good or bad 7 is within reach... And then we'll start the whining for 8.

Hahahaha we should've already had 8!!! Damn O'Donnell and Mendy... Momentum killers!

Id think the world already ended and we were all in a alternate universe where we all had super powers we did not possess in the REAL world.

If this was the Ben of 5 years ago, where he needed to dance around in the pocket and hold on to the ball too long ... then the window is closing, because he is definitely not as fast as he used to be.

He has really progressed in the pocket these last few years though. Tunch has said Ben has looked unbelievable in camp this year. He has progressed into the type of pocket passer that can play until he is in is late 30's.

This is Ben we are talking about. If it were Brady, Manning or Brees and they had traveled the road that Ben has then I might be worried about the abuse...this is Ben we are talking about!

I am of the opinion of that 3 year window. #7 has taken a beating
over his career caused by himself & ****ty OL. We are in a world of trouble if #7 goes down.Watch closely when you can't get away from pressure
then Qb's can't protect theirselves. Skills erode pretty quickly.

Exactly. He took the pounding early on in his career when his body could take it. Now he's maturing into a more traditional QB who can still use his mobility of needed and still take a hit if he has to.

The offense will be lights out this season and going forward. The real deal is if the Defense can hold it's own this season. Ben and company will score and score more but there will be those games where it will be close and can the Defense shut the door, supply a win? It's premature to speculate how this will play out. I am quite excited to see how the Defense will perform when the light really go on. I feel the window is open as long as Ben stays healthy and is on the field.
