You know what? I think he'd be a good kicker! Definitely would be useful on a fake!

If we have the likes of Blewitt and Jesse James on the squad we'll be a commentators delight. This should be a far more decisive factor in who we recruit.

I've been saying that as a PSU fan but with a nastier expletive. It rolls off the tongue nicely. Fortunately he improved quite a bit in the last 2 years. His problem was always mental. When he's on he's on but when he misses one it can snowball on him.

Out of the current names I've seen mentioned so far, I toss my hat in for Shayne Graham. Has kicked in every climate imaginable, numbers aren't bad. They had him in a couple years ago when Squishy hurt his hammy, they didnt need him and released him after a game or two.

Suisham wouldn't have gotten hurt if he had used the Jeff Reed tackling technique.

Garrett Hartley is a head case, once he starts missing.... he's done. No way. There have got to be some decent college kickers out there looking for work.

It's no big deal. Any Joe should be able to kick extra points. That's all we'll need him for. ;+)

It's just funny how maligned suisham was when he got here and people hated him. Even in his first season here, the steelers won at least three games on his foot and people still wanted to run him out of town because of his past. He's been a great pickup for the steelers for the past 4 years. As much as I like to bash kickers, This really is a big loss.

This is why I don't understand why we're not bringing in Graham. The guy has a career 85.5% rate, and converted 19 of 22 last season. Yes, he played his home games in a dome last season, but he's got a long run record of success.

I guess one thing that would be interesting to see is his kicking record at Heinz Field. He has had a number of games there.

Don't forget, PATs will be longer this year. Not quite the chip shot as usual. Maybe we just always go for 2?

Garrett Hartly career NFL field goal % 81.7%..... with a dome team. His last full season was 2013 when he went 22 out of 30..... ugh.... Welcome Garrett

Don't like the hartley signing at all! Hopefully it's just a stop gap for preseason until they find a decent kicker.

I'm going to echo some other people thoughts here in that many wanted reed kept just because he knew how to kick at Heinz field and they wanted to run Suisham outta town becuase he didn't know how to kick there. I started a thread last season that was about the kicking myth of Heinz Field being over, yes the swirling winds at the open end can play with the ball but the secret to kicking there is to kick there. Do it long enough and get enough kicks in and you will be fine.

Wasn't Henery the kid out of Nebraska who killed it in Philly his rookie year and then had an average year or two after that? I seem to remember that kid had a big leg. I want someone who can consistently make kicks under 40 yards and kick the ball out of the end zone on kick offs consistently.

I must admit I was not a fan of Suisham when he signed with the Steelers but he definitely proved me wrong. Going to really miss him lining up for kicks this year. Have gotten really comfortable with his accuracy especially under 40 yards. Plus the guy was not afraid to tackle someone on coverage.
