    offense:
    1. O-line was looking solid
    2. some nice prospects at wr
    3. twice, it looked like dri archer could've taken it to the house.... great td saving tackles by the grass
    4. the young guys learned a big lesson on ball security
    5. landry jones showed better pocket awareness, but not better accuracy
    6. Jesse James...... Uhmmm.. on to the defense now

    defense:
    1. shazier needs to work more on detail and not falling back on his athletic ability
    2. Timmons is in mid season form already
    3. don't be surprised if boykin is challenging for a starting spot
    4. containment is still an issue and running qb's will give us fits if this is not fixed
    5. would've liked to see more out of the olb's

    special teams:
    1. brad wing's job is safe if he can consistently boom 60 yarders... outkicking the coverage is another thing though, however, that's on the coverage unit.
    2. suisham's injury really hurts... this will be huge if it's really his acl

we need some work still. that's to be expected.

pretty happy with AV's first outing.

    boykin looks good.

aldon darby looked pretty good at safety.

phillips is a good looking young receiver.

    dri looks better.

    we need work.

Landry Jones will just not set his feet and throw! Every throw is off his back foot. He never steps into a throw. Yes, sometimes rushed but still.

    1. We have no 3rd string quarterback, Jones should have been left Ohio after the game
    2. B.W. Webb seemed to be everywhere
    3. I really hope AV makes the team
    4. Heath's job is safe
    5. Shazier flashed a lot of potential, he could end up being something really special

Phillips definitely opened my eyes with that one handed snag last night. Honestly I hadn't heard his name before the game yesterday, but that was sweet.

Thanks for that. Awesome catch. Reading the first 10 or 20 comments on that Twitter page reminds me of why I refuse to take part in any form of social media. It could be argued that a football message board is a form of social media but the turd to people ratio seems to be exponentially higher on true social media.

As much as we want Landry to play better, this was the best we have seen out of him so far... So there is some improvement... whatever that means?

Phillips did a lot of good things besides that 1 handed grab, he had a nice quick slant grab, he drew some penalties... it is just a shame because there is no way Coates doesn't make the team ahead of him as an early draft pick. No one has really talked about Phillips in camp before so who knows what to think?

Villanueva seemed promising. He pass blocked and run blocked pretty well. He has a nice first step back on pass-pro. I could see him holding his own with the better speed rushers. He just needs some more nasty to him.

    1. Shazier played really nicely. Looks more like the player we were hoping he's gonna be
    2. Villanueva shone in his first real opportunity. It was nice to see him play well
    3. Boykin looks like he could make a huge difference for us
    4. Our 2nd/3rd string o line is pretty much a heaping pile of stool
    5. Positive outing for Landry. Finally looked like he had somewhat of a clue out there.
    6. Our WR depth looks nice. Goodwin, Phillips, and Coates all had solid nights.
    7. Didn't get to see as much of the rookies as I would've liked. Maybe I missed some of them? I saw Dupree out there a lot... Idk
    8. Jesse James' hands
    9. Sucks about Suisham... Hopefully he's alright. If not, hopefully we can find a successful stop gap off the street
    10. Archer looked ready to go this year. So much more decisive.

Hopefully we can get some guys healthy. I know we sent out the JV squad resting some players... But it would be good to see 3/5ths of our starting secondary play in Thomas, Mitchell, and Allen. Jones and McCullers need to be back too. There is a lot to be excited about I think. By the end of the year, we could very well find ourselves playing some big time games in January (and February too!).

Game was interesting to say the least.. THere is no question in my mind that Boykin takes a starter position.

Was it me or did everyone want Al Michaels and Chris Collingsworth to shut up lol.. First time I can remember being that annoyed by commentators haha

I agree with much of this. Some of the rookies looked like rookies, but I'll be more interested to see what they do with 1 or 2 more games under their belt.

Archer was my player of the night - good to see him in there from the off, although there were a few passes it looked like he could have caught. But when he got the ball, he looked like the guy he needs to be this year. His timing and awareness still need a bit of work, but he's getting in the right positions.

Poor old Jesse James... maybe it was just jitters.

Are you kidding? I have been annoyed by Collinsworth's commentating for a solid decade now.

Michaels has never bothered me. I actually enjoy his broadcasts mostly.

It was more about how much they felt they needed to talk .. Usually with all commentating there are at least lulls in their conversation. To me it appeared as though they never could shut up lol

Well in Pre season games especially starting around the 3rd quarter, they start to talk about everything other than the game action because they are bored stiff and they think 90% of America watching is bored stiff and they figure that not many care about watching mostly unknown guys playing. So yeah you are right, they do prattle on a lot in the pre season.

Not familiar with all the rookies or there numbers ,might have helped if the announcers would have done a play by play announement instead of talking about everything except what was really happening on the field and by who.Radical idea, game announcers who announce the game.Think it could catch on?

to add: garvin looked like a guy that wants to stay
darby immpressed me alot last night
the interior O linemen need work
    clear did make a catch
i thought landry had a decent outing for a third string qb and james didn"t help him
jones should have had two TD passes completed < james and phillips or coates when we were at the one< those balls should have been caught:cool:

the james pass, most definitely.... the fade attempts though were thrown just a split second too late, otherwise they probably would've been td's

I bet Landry is a better Monday Morning QB than all of us. I just don't want him as a Monday NIGHT qb or Thursday night qb or Sunday night or Saturday night. All the other nights he is in the clear though.

I didn't care so much about them going off on tangents but when they would interview one of HOF inductee's and I missed what little on the field stuff I could see, that was starting to bug me. Than and Ron Wolf thinking that no one would know who Otto Graham was. I mean there are people who know the history of football before the year 2000

Yeah that was weird that he said that. Big time football fans and ESPECIALLY Steelers fans are generally very knowledgeable about the history of the game.

Dupree didn't do anything, there was some improvement in Landry play he missed some throws and there was some drops by his WRs. Archer and Shazier were solid.

I missed the first quarter and just got to watch bits and pieces of the second and third. My impression were that things were as one would expect. Having a lot of starters not playing meant lots of inexperience on both sides of the ball. Landry Jones looked improved, lets not kid ourselves we aren't talking about his replacing Ben but his extended time looked better than the three drives I have seen from him in the last two seasons. I would like to see what he could do with some of the starters. Archer should be worked into the offense so that he doesn't look like a gadget play guy but under no circumstances should he be expected to pick up a blitz on a third and long situation and if he is in there it should be a shotgun formation or a three step drop and a quick release because he simply is too small to slow a blitzer. The defense will need to find that line between aggressive and missing your gap responsibility. That long gainer by Aisiatta(sp) was mainly due to guys rushing up field and getting blocked allowing him to find the edge and get up field. Oline depth is a concern but I think they will get there. I really hope they have a plan beyond Williams for back up running backs because those guys last night looked bad. Heck we would even have to talk about he Jessie James drop had the running back followed his fullback and hit the edge instead of trying to run between the tackle and guard in a hole that was filled from the snap.

Coates was solid too. Showed good focus on that batted ball and also came back to the ball. If Ben and Wheaton continue to struggle to get on the same page this year and Coates turns out good do you think that might make Wheaton expendable? I mean we are stacked at wideouts anyway.

i don't know b&g they had their hands on a couple of those throws. wr's have to make those catches. was lj perfect ? no but there was some improvement. i know one thing , he can fire that ball without a lot of effort. strong arm. accuracy? he has moments. some better than others. lol:cool:
