While watching practice yesterday Tunch Ilkin and Mike Mayock said Butler was going to change from a 2 gap D to a 1 gap D; benefits of course is players dont have to think as much as they do in a 2 gap, and it doesnt take players as long to learn the defense, as well a 1 gap gets better penetration to the back field, the 1 gap is better suited for a 4-3 lineup but I'm guessing butler is going to hybrid it out of the 3-4, any thoughts?

Players have recently said it will be a hybrid. I think we'll see more 1-gapping and different looks up front, but we're not going to see a totally different scheme. The Steelers, like most teams, don't exclusively 2 gap (or vise versa).

Just think of it like MMA now. There's no one that comes out and just does one technique anymore.

They may have a base that they're better at because they started there, but they'd better be able to use it all in combination or they are going to win!

    Same for Football now.

I like what that they're changing the defensive scheme in the secondary a lot of zone coverage, Butler said the defense will be simpler and the young players should be able to grasp it more quickly.

I'm with you TTF. I actually think our D will be better this year. Rooney's ain't been paying him more to lay an egg I bet.

Butler is putting his stamp on this Defense. Gone will be the complicated schemes, veteran coddling. This is a young mans game now. Pay your core and rotate in new blood to fit the scheme. Tomlin also getting more involved with the secondary and Defense as a whole. It's a new era for the Steelers Defense and I can't wait to see how the product performs come September 10th...
