One of my all-time favorites. 61 is too young. Reports say he died in his sleep, so at least he went peacefully. We should all be so lucky.

    RIP.

Dude I just now found out about this and it makes me really sad. I actually was gonna go and meet him a few months ago and wound up not getting to. I reckon everybody here knows I'm a huge old school wrestling fan and Roddy was one of the greatest stick men ever. He also made a great heel and was probably one of the biggest reasons for Wrestlemania becoming the juggernaut it is. He helped Hogan shoot in to the stratosphere by having that huge rivalry with him. Piper's Pit was one of the most revolutionary things ever in the business. I just hate to hear this so bad. Recently he had sorta got some heat going with Steve Austin and apparently Austin had gotten him fired from his podcast over Roddy letting a dude do an impersonation of Austin that ticked him off. I bet he had been under a lot of stress. I subscribe to the WWF Network and I'd say they'll be having tons of stuff about him on there this week. This is just so lame. RIP Hot Rod!

I have that movie. Made my wife watch it because she'd never seen it. He was a really good guy though.

Man that is a bummer. He was one of the first really great "characters" in wrestling. Give him a microphone and let him go. He could come up with some very witty stuff off the top of his head and some fantastic insults. Guys like Steve Austin and The Rock, learned it all from Hot Rod.

Yeah I would rate him as about the top stick man of all time. Freddie Blassie might be the best because he just blazed such a trail and played the villain so well. Andy Kaufman is also one of my all time favorites. His promos against the south in Mid South promotions are absolutely brilliant. Jake Roberts is probably who I'd call the all time greatest though if you put a gun to my head. He was just so intense and the fact that he had Damien hanging from him the whole time just took it to a whole new level. That era of wrestling will never be matched. The attitude era was really a lot more sizzle than it was steak when it comes to the actual in ring product. It did produce some good talkers though. The Rock is definitely the best from the attitude era. Chris Jericho is probably second.

I forgot about Freddie Blassie. I was still a kid when he was finishing up his managing run. He was great. Pencil necked geeks indeed. :roflmao:

Know who was also one of my all time favorites in terms of routine? The Honky Tonk Man. Lol, nobody made me laugh like that guy did. Genius.

Yeah he was a great heel. The Million Dollar Man was as well. I think the person that entertained me the most from that era was probably Bobby Heenan though. Him and Gorilla were phenomenal together. He could get a heel over as well as he could a face. I loved when Gorilla would say "WILL YOU STOP?!" LOL! Also do you remember when Roddy hit Jimmy Snuka with the coconut? That was hilarious.

Yep Million Dollar Man was great. Rick Rude was awesome too. Saw him wrestle when I was a kid in West Virginia. When he grabbed the mic and did the "Now what I want is for all you fat, out of shape, West Virginia slobs to sit down and shut up so I can show the ladies what a real man looks like", I laughed my head off.

Yeah my greatest Rick Rude memory was when he was in the Dangerous Alliance and Madusa had distracted Sting so Lex Luger could attack him right before his match for the US Championship with Rick Rude and then Paul E Dangerously came out while Sting was on his way back from the hospital and told that crowd Sting was gonna forfeit if he didn't get to the ring in a couple of minutes. Sting arrived in an ambulance and was let in the back door and ran on one leg to the ring and Rude wound up beating him. I was FURIOUS! I was also 10. LOL. It was at a Clash of the Champions in Savannah in 1992. Growing up in east TN I got to go watch a lot of WCW shows and even a Clash when it was in "Knocksville". I live only 20 minutes outside of it so I would always go when they were here. I was usually on like the 2nd row and got to see Sting, Flair, Luger, Oz(Kevin Nash's original character), Nikita Koloff, Bobby Eaton, Johnny B Badd, Vader, Stunning Steve, and all those big WCW guys. I've got so many great memories from those days. Sting talking to me during a match is my favorite wrestling memory ever and I can remember it like it was yesterday. I literally cried. LOL!!!

You guys are bringing back some great memories, 80's wrestling was awesome. I'm not up on it anymore but used to love it back then, great characters. Piper was a guy you loved to hate.

    RIP Roddy
