I thought he was developing nicely and would have made many contributions with Butler the new Defensive coordinator coming in. It's certainly his right to retire and depart in his own ways but I really think there will be a down grade at the position. Both his sack totals and forced fumbles were increasing in his 4th and 5th seasons and I had every belief that they would continue to climb in years 6, 7 and possibly 8th. It pains me to see him walk away from the game. Part of me would like to say good riddance and good luck passing on millions but that would not be very accurate perspective of mine in his decision to try and maintain his heath. Part of me also thinks that if a player goes out there worrying about his potential injury possibilities then he wouldn't be half the player he could possibly be anyways.

I know this has been discussed at the time of his parting but with the season coming upon us I would like to hear others recent thoughts on his decision to hang it up.

I honestly don't feel like he is going to be hard to replace. He never really jumped off the screen to me. I mean 7.5 sacks as an OLB in the 3-4 is not great maybe not even good.

Don't think he'll be missed... Not much reason to believe he will,or would. However I wish him the best and thanks for doing what little he did. He was a steeler after all

He did set the edge in the run. His pass rushing was just so-so. I actually think Moats is going to give a better outside rush than he did.

I think we all were ready
he would be gone. Mostly because we thought he would be over paid by someone else in FA. The fact that he retired doesn't change that his departure is not a significant loss.

I thought he was also weak against the run. Teams ran more to his side then to Harrison's side. He seemed to lose his passion for football last year, and after his retirement it all started to make sense. He won't be missed much, if anything it should be an improvement on that side with Moats, not sure yet about Dupree.

Well to be totally true, when Harrison was in...no one ran to his side......

I thought he was mediocre against the run. I can still remember Cleveland running at him all day with crushing success in both games last season. When I look at our OLBs, I'd take at least our first 4 guys over Worilds, even if price wasn't a concern.

He was an ok player. Nothing spectacular about him, but he wasn't what I would call bad. I think that Moats can replace him now with no drop off. It sounds like they are trying to avoid jamming Dupree in the lineup immediately and will gradually work him in here and there to get him experience this year unless he just blows it up in camp.

Jason had a change of heart somewhere along the road and knew within he wasn't going to persue football as a priority any longer. That being said, i believe he was dealing with a tug of war in life which was affecting his performance. I do believe he had potential to be a great ( we seen the evidence ) but had no consistency and i feel he knew it was time to bail.

So much of football is played between the ears.

I don't think they are going too miss him much. It wasn't like he was putting up double digit sack numbers. I'm just hopinh Jarvis stays healthy, it's make it or break it time for him. Hopefullly Dupree catches on fast. Arthur Moats can do some damage. If Harrison can play at a high level for 15-20 plays a game. I think we should be OK.

He wasn't 100% dedicated to football, at least he was honest with himself and the team by not taking money under false pretenses, I respect his honesty in that he knew mentally he didn't want to play the game anymore, most players wouldn't pass up a big money contract, and then after they signed it would only go through the motions to collect a game check, worilds did the right thing and saved the steelers from making a mistake they would have regretted later on......

I think we will miss him the same as we miss most players that we let go which is not very much. I honestly think we will miss Brice McCain more.

I agree. Moats showed really well in what little time he got as a pass rusher last year in my opinion. I just figured he didn't know the system enough to garner more playing time. Hopefully this year he grasps it a little more and I really think he could be a pleasant surprise.

I don't think he will be missed that much, the other OLBs will pick up the slack.

Meh. He was okay. he certainly produced some splash plays at times. At times, he also disappeared. If he had been a late round pick, I would be happier. He is a disappointment for a 2nd round pick.
