I think its just because he is similar to Bryant. If the coaches can coach him up the same way as they did Bryant, should have the same results on the field. He probably wont see the field until the second half of the season though.

Agree, but if he isn't active on the gameday roster and DHB is, then he would be #5 not 4. Not sure that number means anything. He'll be on the 53 man roster and be given time to acclimate to the NFL.

I think the team will find a way to get DHB and Coates hats on game days. As I stated in the WR thread Wheaton could be the guy who losses some snaps . He did have a problem holding onto the ball, he did have a problem route running , and he didn't give a high effort when blocking.

If Coates can show his medal as a blocker then I think he can earn some snaps . Only 1 Football so after the touches for A.B. , Bryant , Bell, and Miller the rest of those guys will get there snaps according to what they do without the ball .

No way we keep 4 TE. Not with 5 RBs, 5 WRs, 9 LBs .... Im just thinking WOW right now...

Think they had 4 at one point last year, definitely 3 but think it was 4 before one got hurt. Year before they carried 4.

Mac may be right though, Might carry 3 and use Will J if needed. Depends how high they are on some of these guys and want to risk exposing them to the PS.

Yes I understand but keeping 4 TEs in a vacuum I understand, keeping 4 TEs with the talent we have at RB and WR pretty much precludes 4 TEs. Having Sammie Coates and DeAngelo Williams, and carrying Dri Archer makes it very hard to keep 4 TEs THIS year.

Previous years no one knew about Martavis, didnt have Coates, didnt know LeVeon would blow up to be a mega star, Heath Miller was coming off injury. Had other receivers but no one shined much at all. Until Sanders left for Denver that is.

I think the only reason we kept 4 at all was because of injury. we had to keep spaeth active while he was injured and that's been a lot the last two years. I don't see anyway we don't keep a couple on the PS for down the road.

clear, egnew, blanchflower, james, I'd expect one good blocker and one good receiver kept out of the group on the P-squad. blanchflower missing time injured hasn't helped his cause. willJ gives us an extra spot during game days.

Yeah! They almost always carry 6DL. The candidates for that spot are:

That's assuming that Geathers is in and C. Thomas is out.

Incidentally, here are PFF's ratings of our current depth chart.

This is obviously on current stats, not on projected - hence last season I recall that Bell was coloured 'average', and A.Brown was 'good'.
It also doesn't take into account Special Teams.

What makes everyone think Boyd wont struggle in camp like he did with the jets losing the 3 job to the likes of Matt Simms?????

Former Clemson star Tajh Boyd, picked in the sixth round of this year's NFL draft, was among the players cut by the New York Jets. It came as no surprise, as Boyd struggled throughout training camp, losing the No. 3 quarterback job to Matt Simms.

I think we should just carry 2 anyway . It's not like we are going to win many games if anyone other than Ben plays anyway. And it's not like any of these guys are the future either .

I understand all of that, but we wont keep 4 QBs, and only two will dress on game day, but I expect Landry to be more prepared for his 3rd camp than Boyd will be for his 1st steeler camp, certainly LJ will know the playbook better than TB, I believe Landry is safe in knowing he has competition to motivate him to play his best.....

the only reason for keeping a young QB as a 3rd on the 53 is to protect him from being taken by another team. We don't have to worry about that with either Landry or Boyd. I'm in the camp of keeping only 2 on the roster. Maybe keeping a Sixth WR/QB like Devin would be the more wise move.

Seriously... if both Ben and Grad goes down in the same game all hope for victory is reduce to a prayer anyways. Boyd has the Arm, maybe he struggled with the playbook while in the Jets camp too much. Landry most likely has the playbook down but is struggling with accuracy. Neither is in danger of being pilfered. Neither are our Future following Ben, and if both Ben/Grad goes down a vet will be brought in and heavily coached up.

Gotta be careful with a QB getting plucked from the PS for his knowledge of the playbook?

Because the little bit we seen from him last year was better then anything Jones has shown. Nobody is saying Boyd is going to come in and start or even be the number 2 but from what I've seen of the 2 he has more potential then Jones.

I understand that thought but in order for a team to claim a player off another teams PS they must put him on their 53 roster..... a high price when considering the return,. Also remember all PS members should know the playbook. Teams defenses already know the opposing teams plays anyways... its the calls that needs protecting and those can be adjusted per game.

There is no problem with Taj Boyd's game, his problem is the playbook, it takes time to know it, then you can do it, otherwise you think too much.

TAJ has been on the team long enough, and he is getting help with the playbook, so he should have it down by camp.

I expect Boyd to win the number 2 spot, and if Ben gets hurt, he may lose his job.

Look at Boyd's highlights, you cant teach that stuff. His game is supertight, and he is accurate, great arm, mobile, and tough.
If Ben gets hurt, he will lose his job.
